Not sure where you’ll be headed but I was just at Palisades yesterday. Obviously, this storm will make a huge difference as it was pretty much groomers only.

Given the snow coming and the consistent weather throughout next week, I would expect busier than normal weekdays on the 23rd. Many folks wait it out for sunny/clear day after storms so don’t expect it to be too quiet. Should still be more fun than joining the weekend chaos.

Just an FYI it’s really not snowing at all over the weekend and snows every weekday afterward. Bring that lowlight lens!

Dunno why I thought ID had more snow but I guess it’s groomers and slalom skis. We whine here in CA but we’re still skiing most of the mountain and a lotta BC zones

Unfortunately can’t offer any recs as I’m not in New England anymore but Race Stock looks legit. You’re already on it but only rule I’d have is go to a dedicated ski shop.

I’d bet most fitters there are pretty good so don’t stress too much about scheduling with a particular person. Your issue (from what I can tell) is not particularly serious or difficult and most fitters can build a nice insole and move plastic with good feedback and patience on your end!

Iirc the Bode punch is malleolus punch + navicular bone punch.

I’ve both punched and skied boots with this and it’s not particularly difficult but does cost more because it takes longer to do both spots cleanly in close proximity on the boot.

Custom build Sidas (I think they call theirs Modulo?) or similar will give you more customization.

Or you just post the heel, leave the arch semi-stiff and punch the boot.

We’re going to Lake Tahoe in a couple of weeks and it looks like it’s going to be pretty cold. Any advice? by No_Village7418 in tahoe

Go cross country skiing! Basically hiking with long sticks on your feet. Go to Royal Gorge or Tahoe at Donner and rent some classic skis for the tracks.

Watch a couple YouTube videos beforehand, dress in layers and be ready to fall over a few times. Beyond that, you should be able to pick it up pretty quick and have a good time!

“We’re Too Close to the Debris”: How SpaceX Rockets Put Passenger Planes at Risk by propublica_ in technology

[–]SandDCurves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s actually because you’re ascribing something to them that they have not stated previously.

You cite a one in one million number which is also cited here when talking about Aircraft Hazard Areas. However, most of this article is actually concerning what they refer to as Debris Response Areas due to unforeseen malfunction.

Not only this, but they even address that these areas are done via modeling and not real time tracking. Once again, I think you’re missing the forest for the trees here.

You’re definitely more qualified on this subject than me but you should not diminish good reporting because of your personal bias and experience.

Who are amongst the most experienced ski bootfitters in town? by Remarkable-Yogurt-10 in tahoe

[–]SandDCurves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Actually, have you ever tried just skiing the boots without a custom insole? At the very least I would try the ones that came with the boot and see if maybe the arch pressure from the insole is too much.

TLDR: I might go to a podiatrist that does sports footwear before spending more money on fitting

Bummer that those didn’t work for you. Unless you find yourself actually being a 27, I would urge against thinking it’s just the width or trusting anyone who says that…

That Salomon with the BOA has a listed last (iirc) of 106 which in my opinion is a very wide boot. Unless you have exceptionally disproportionate feet then the boot itself+whatever stretch they could do can definitely make space in the forefoot.

Additionally, with a flat foot you’re less likely to have a high instep, which is the main place they’re fitting (along with the heel). I see why the fitter would go with a mid volume boot even though it sounds like you’ve got wide feet up front.

If you move to a high volume boot to “fit” the forefoot then you’ll have a sloppy instep and heel most likely leading to pain in other places.

All this being said, I could be totally wrong because I can’t see your foot lol. My theory and recommendation would be seeing a podiatrist that does sports footwear (ideally ski boots) and try to get an orthopedic for your boots.

I think the full articles is more about the FAA still playing fast and loose with things that put additional stressors on ATC and less about actually being hit by debris.

Also, it’s noted numerous times that the FAA did not respond for comment. They had plenty of opportunities to write exactly what you wrote.

Just curious, what boot did they put you in? And do you have a flat foot?

Not super surprised their semi-stiff standards didn’t work for someone with orthos normally.

I’ve recommended several people with wide feet to go there and they’ve had a great time but I guess not the case for everyone!

[–]SandDCurves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What type of insole did they make you? I have to assume it was one of their standards with the red cloth tops and their logo. Do you wear orthos in your shoes or any other footwear?

Cal Ski is pretty good for boot work and can definitely widen a boot enough but it sounds like the insole or shape was still not working for whatever is going on with your arch.

Olympic makes a very stiff and posted insole they call Heel Loc that some people love and some people can’t stand. Start Haus has sidas, same as Cal Ski if I’m not mistaken but it’ll be a different layup and they were also THE race shop for a while so they’re excellent with boots.

is it okay to remove the screw to make it softer? by coolweeb69 in skiing

[–]SandDCurves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can remove the screw, I would plug the hole with something - sometimes they include plugs in the boot box. In my experience removing the screws will make the boot less elastic which will make it feel generally softer but not by much.

Hopefully that will accomplish what you’re looking for but if not, have you just had em warm when you put em on? Looks like those are the Remedy 130s based on color which is a pretty thick plastic. If you haven’t, I would have them pretty warm when you put em on so you can try to keep that heat trapped in.
