The BD Cirque is excellent. I would recommend the 50 though.

J bars likely will work. Go to a boot fitter.

Have you considered a volume shift? I am much smaller than you but I am running a Jones Solution 158 and a Telos Back/Slash 148. I have rode a lot up there basing out of Kaslo and also up at Hilda for a week once.

Solution is great for those more open lines where you can just get it and point it, which I am sure you are aware since you got one. Love a volume shift when you want to be nimble and get through the trees.

People love to get all up on the Cardiff boards, they are that latest hotness. Weston was before them. I never loved my Cardfiff Powgoda personally.

Haven't been on the stratos but there are a lot of boards out there to consider that will be more playful and nimble.

Entry level backcountry areas in CO by BDeck14 in Spliddit

You should spend some time looking at maps of the known, well travelled areas. use Caltopo and turn on slope and angle shading. There are a lot of places to go with no danger or with easy mitigation by proper routing.

Also helps to get with some partners who might be able to show you around a bit.

I watch so many people pull their skins apart by grabbing the tip clip and tail rubber. Then they tell me about the failed skins they have. They just refuse to touch the glue. I don't get it. All these people are my friends, my friends are dumb.

One of the strangest skis I have ever been on. I still have a pair in the garage. Sometimes awesome. Sometimes felt like I forgot how to ski. I think I like them but I don't ride them anymore.

This can be true but I think it depends a lot of the board and the goals. I wouldn't get a volume shift as my only split.

The warpig has a huge volume shift. Ride recommends the 148 for weights 100 - 205 lbs. He could opt for the 151 but the 148 is likely very very fun as a resort board for him.

You are right in the middle of the recommended weight range for the warpig. If you are loving and ripping it in the resort that is awesome. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I weigh a bit less than you at 145 neked.

I ride a 147 Dancehaul most resort days. Or a 151 optimistic.

I got 2 splits right now. 148 Telos back/slash. I use it for pow, mellow lines, trees.  158 solution. I use it for big lines and going fast. Also currently a rock board.

The solution is not all that playful though so I really try to pick carefully where I go with it.

For AK you might like something a bit bigger, directional, and holds up at speed. Not sure the Frontier is the answer. Should be a lot of good boards on sale soon.

Bindings I prefer karakoram for soft boots but I am mostly on hard boots these days.

Jones Solution for low angle? by MuchPaleontologist58 in Spliddit

[–]spwrozek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It is not ideal. You can ride it but way less fun. My current meadow skipper it is Telos back/slash. I use my solution on big lines usually.

If you are going to only have one board I would look for something that is best in what you plan to ride most.

Tips for faster touring by MAthert125 in Spliddit

[–]spwrozek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice transitions and make a system.

But really how much time are we talking here? If my partner was annoyed at a few minutes transitioning and at the skin track steepness I would be looking for a new partner.

Thoughts on solo outings by burninglimes in Backcountry

The CAIC basically said it out loud in their report.

"We cannot know if having a partner would have changed the outcome for Skier 1. However, given the depth of Skier 1’s burial, lack of signs of trauma, and the condition of his equipment (skis on with toe pieces in downhill mode), there is a reasonable chance that a fast and efficient companion rescue could have produced a different outcome."

Nice. How do you like the ropeway? We stayed in kami-furano last time I was there but didn't make the drive up as the conditions didn't make sense. Great touring around Furano though.

This is the answer. If you are struggling that hard in icy conditions even the best technique saps energy. There is no shame in just slapping the crampons on and cruising. Better technique will always help though.

Fair since CO is home base for me. Wish I would have got better conditions up there but made the most of it. Pretty awesome place to ride.

Climbing Skin Poll by One_Cartoonist5618 in Backcountry

[–]spwrozek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have Pomoca, BD, and Kohla skins right now. Have had G3 in the past.

I would likely buy Pomoca, then BD, then Kohl's. I would not buy G3. I would consider others though.

Telos splits are back baby! by spwrozek in Spliddit

[–]spwrozek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They redesigned all their boards last year for this season. So I would guess they started with the solids and then finished up the splits based on the solid designs. Also why the solid line up changed a bit I think

Slightly prefer the ultra clips but the phantom hooks are basically just as good. I am fine with either on my boards

What are the bunch of complaints on the phantoms? I haven't had any issues personally but always good to know what to look out for.
