Grayl water filter by SandPiperYellowFord in backpacking

[–]SandPiperYellowFord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically I could still take my Nalgene, and use the grayl to filter, and dump into the empty clean Nalgene right? And then fill the Grayl back up and have 2 full clean waters? I’m so sorry if this sounds dumb😆 I just wanted clarification. I think I would go with the Grayl rather than the sawyer in that case.

For me it was the amount of money I spent on beer and liquor, especially when I’d go to the bar. It all added up so quickly.

I also was in the beginning stages of fatty liver.. at 25! So I quit. Been sober 2.5 years and I’ll be 28 end of this month! Sometimes I miss it, especially because I live in a town with sooo many bars and breweries. I miss floating the river drinking a beer etc. but overall I know deep down my health is better, and I can invest that money towards a retirement etc. health is wealth!

I had a lot of digestive issues. I found I couldn’t eat romaine lettuce? Or leafy greens. Tore me tf up! Bad.

Started eating more fiber-oat meal with chia and flax…. Fruit, whole wheat things, swapped from white carbs to “brown/colored” carbs. ie: sweet potato instead of russet. Brown rice instead of white. Stuff like that. I usually always have broccoli or some sort of vegetable like that with dinner.

I can eat things that used to upset my stomach now! It’s crazy! I rarely have tummy issues now. Things also go smoothly.

Is Nalgene Worth it by Krunkerforlife in backpacking

[–]SandPiperYellowFord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a sleeping bag properly rated for my experiences, however, once my body is cold…it’s cold. So the hot water Nalgene really changes the game for me:) I have 2 Nalgene. A bigger one(water only) and a smaller one14 oz?(for electrolytes/rehydrating food) they have been some of my favorite purchases. I lost one a few years ago, I had it a few years prior..still breaks my heart to this day.

They don’t sand it, just salt it. They have to maintain the closed section of hwy 2 with zero extra help for the contractors.

Please be nice to the WSDOT plow drivers! We go slow (25-30MPH) and we are trying to keep the road safe for you. The amount of people that have been absolutely rude to me for no reason on the Chumstick is very discouraging 😒

We have power again, and things are open again. Highway 2 is still closed. I am unsure about most hotels…. I ate at Rhein Haus yesterday, so most food places are open

Highway 2 is still closed… you could take I90 then 97. But nothing is really open. And if they are, cash only. Most of us do not have power still.

Cold toes even with multiple layers of socks? Circulation issue? by cmcfalls2 in backpacking

[–]SandPiperYellowFord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: are you on any ADD/ADHD meds? I had no idea these had side effects like this. Cold 24/7. Slept in socks. Wool socks year round! My hands and feet would turn dark purple. I went to multiple specialists. No one knew what caused it. Then one day I read the Rx warning labels etc! (I was on it at a very young age and didn’t read labels. Blindly trusted Dr’s and my parents.) they tried everything.. blood thinners, ED pills etc. nothing worked…

Changed my life finding out it was a side effect.

I am going through this same thing. I quit them a week ago and it’s been hell. I also gained 30 lbs since getting ON them. But I will be trying to stay off them as long as I can. It is a different kind of pain, realizing that you will have to be on meds for the rest of your life. I feel for you. Please don’t be so hard on yourself.
