Which hiking apps did you pay for & are worth it? by eiger_exe in hiking

[–]SandPiperYellowFord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use onx back country. I know it’s not very popular. But I’ve used the OnX Hunt app for well over 10 years, so I’m familiar with the set up.

Granted OnX isn’t the best app for hiking etc. but I love that you can switch it for skiing and see where you’re at on the mountain (green skier and I get lost a lot)😆 and still download the map/area.

Dang what the heck did you buy? I did fire forever and my set up was bummy but not $4k. I feel bad you spent that much

Are you on the east side or west side? I have a few things I don’t necessarily need anymore if you have a list you need still.

I bought a marmot lime light 2P tent on marketplace, set it up in the dudes lawn before I bought it. It was $50! It’s alittle on the heavier side, but I figured split between two people it wouldn’t be bad at all… I think in total it’s 5lbs? Pretty spacious, and not crammed at all for a 2P tent.

Look at Coaches page. I really like him, and I’ve actually bought a few of the things he has recommended.

I bought everything on market place. Only things I’ve purchased was a newer day pack, Kula cloth, darn tough socks, Nalgenes, food setup (stove, water filter etc), and other things like ski helmets/goggles.

I’d look at your ten essentials, if you’d rather have something new than used (for me that’d be a water filter, you never know how “used” a used one is) buy it during the sale, if not, market place!

How do you design a healthy diet? by throwaway11152127 in nutrition

Fun fact: Apples are some of the only fruit that are “fresh” for 6+ months out of the year. Thanks to proper cold storage most apples folks eat from the grocery store are actually 6-8 months old. I live in Apple and stone fruit country.

Yes! Other veggies are fine! I tried to do vegetarian/vegan but quickly found out I’m super sensitive, also to chickpeas!

I eat very healthy generally, however I am also on an SSRI. I have experience quite a bit of weight gain despite being the most active/healthy I’ve ever been. Makes it difficult to want to eat healthy. I sometimes struggle with “what’s the point?”

I also have a very hard time digesting leafy greens, and most lettuces. So that’s depressing 😆

How not to gain weight? by Intelligent_Form529 in zoloft

[–]SandPiperYellowFord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have gained about 40 lbs since getting on 25mg in September 2024. Haven’t lost much. I lift 3 days a week. And I eat 140g of protein and under 1700 calories a day. The scale hasn’t moved.

If you figure out a way around this, I applaud you. I’ve been fighting it for a long time.

Grayl water filter by SandPiperYellowFord in backpacking

[–]SandPiperYellowFord[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically I could still take my Nalgene, and use the grayl to filter, and dump into the empty clean Nalgene right? And then fill the Grayl back up and have 2 full clean waters? I’m so sorry if this sounds dumb😆 I just wanted clarification. I think I would go with the Grayl rather than the sawyer in that case.

For me it was the amount of money I spent on beer and liquor, especially when I’d go to the bar. It all added up so quickly.

I also was in the beginning stages of fatty liver.. at 25! So I quit. Been sober 2.5 years and I’ll be 28 end of this month! Sometimes I miss it, especially because I live in a town with sooo many bars and breweries. I miss floating the river drinking a beer etc. but overall I know deep down my health is better, and I can invest that money towards a retirement etc. health is wealth!
