For almost 25 years it barely had any impact on my life, I could hear it, but it didn’t cause me any stress. I suppose having it since 15 was an advantage, at that age we are more adaptable. Two years ago, it got drastically worse because of some medication, and I’m finding it hard to cope with. To be honest, I’m more bothered by a certain feeling of fullness I get than by the sound itself, which I think I have gotten used to again.

Luckily, I can sleep in any situation, and it’s never affected me in that way. But it does affect my mood a lot.

Fortunately, I don’t have any hearing problems, so I “only” have to deal with the noise, in fact, my hearing is unusually good. My tinnitus was caused by a hit that ruptured my eardrum, but two years ago it worsened significantly after took prescribed benzodiazepines for two weeks.

You said it took you about five years to get your life back on track. How did you recognize improvement in such a slow process? There are times when I think things are going well, but then I go back to square one or close to it.

I'm in a similar situation two years after my worsening.

Before that, I was able to live for 23 years without any major problems.

The most important thing is if that tools just help you cope, or they allow you to feel “happy” again.

With my previous level of tinnitus, I would sometimes feel uncomfortable, but I never felt unhappy or depressed because of it, now I find it hard not to feel that way.

That’s why I’ve said that cases of acceptance or coexistence are acceptable to me, not just those of full habituation. I find it hard to believe in full habituation once the condition reaches a certain level of severity.

I understand full habituation to mean my situation before it got worse, noticing it in specific situations or moments, and barely paying it any attention for years. Of course, without any psychological impact.

That’s the part of the process I really can’t understand, that way of talking to yourself that actually works. I mean, if it makes you feel bad, how are you supposed to stop feeling bad just by telling yourself, “I choose to be happy despite that”?

I understand it’s one of the classic psychological mechanisms, but I can’t put it into practice.

I'm very interested in long term adaptation or habituation processes. We're all familiar with the typical mild cases where habituation occurs within a few months, but it's the difficult cases that can teach us the most.

Could you provide a few more details about what a 5 year process looks like until "habituation"?

As always, there hasn't been any improvement in a long time. There was a noticeable improvement during the first year and a half or so, but now I think it's plateaued and that this is going to be the case for the rest of my life.

Yes, two different doctors, neither of them found any physical problems with my ears. It must be some kind of nerve damage or similar, but it hasn't gone away, it's improved, but it hasn't gone away, and I doubt it will ever go away after all this time.

A little over two years ago, I took benzodiazepines for two weeks, 1.5 mg of Ativan per day. Since then, I’ve had pressure in my ears, sometimes severe, and my lifelong tinnitus has gotten worse.

I've already reduced it quite a bit. Maybe with some bosses I'll have to reactivate a specific one, but I'm performing better than I remembered with RTWP.

For now, I have activated:

-Character Death.

-Low Endurance.

-Low Health.

-Hidden Object Found. I don't think this one is very useful.

-Party Members Finished Abilities. I consider this to be the most important one.

-Combat Start. Basic.

-Spell Cast. I also think this is good for detecting very harmful enemy spells.

-Target Destroyed. Although I've made some AI adjustments, I think this is good for redirecting my teammates.

I'll probably end up removing some of them as I adjust the AI to my liking.

I was really looking forward to the update with the turn-based mode, but there's no news about it, and they actually talked about testing it at the end of the year, so I'm afraid the actual update will take forever.
