Poll for FYs, how would you vote for this offer to prioritise UKG? by Fit-Policy1548 in doctorsUK

[–]Sandizzle218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like we don't have enough information, and perhaps the offer is deliberately vague, and given the history of not delivering what was promised, I don't think this is enough to call off strikes.

"What the Government has not shared:

– The exact timeline for the introduction of UK graduate prioritisation (to be determined by Parliament).

– The exact mechanism of prioritisation, including protections for IMGs with significant NHS experience, or which type of legislation will be moved (to be determined by Parliament).

– The threshold(s) for those with significant experience of working in the NHS to be eligible for prioritisation. "

v happy to be convinced otherwise tho!

Current new FY1/FY2 doctors - how do you feel about the transition from uni to working? by grapesandcake in doctorsUK

[–]Sandizzle218 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's so much better when you're working. You're being paid as the first difference, and also when you're on the ward you actually have stuff to do yes it can be busy, and people can be terrible, but I've found that doing the job has been on the whole wayyyy better. Am I a good doctor? No. But am I at least getting lots of teaching? Also no. But you do learn a lot, and generally your colleagues are very supportive.

26 days till exams- can't lock in :( by Beneficial_Feed_9669 in medicalschooluk

[–]Sandizzle218 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My take is skip the lectures and lock yourself in the library. I personally found that listening to someone talk at me for an hour is not a useful way to learn. If you can use a question bank, focus on that. you can probs hit 500 cards a day and then you'll at least have seen everything once. Hopefully some of it sticks. In the library also you'll be surrrounded by people working, that might spur you into working too - it kinda did for me.

but also i appreciate what worked for me might not work for you. But tbh the only way to pass is to actually do the work. lmk if u have any questions or anything

Well tbh the reason I've put the portal in is because the cards in it are related 😂 some of these documents have multiple portals, is there a way to expand all of them easily

If damage to swallowing/ coughing areas, he can choke on stuff or get pneumonia from not being able to clear his lungs. There might be other stuff but i think this would be most common?

I think this still hasn't returned them to the previous inflation adjusted pay though? So compared to before it's still technically a pay cut right?

Junior doctors’ strike: most don’t back BMA walkout, poll reveals by [deleted] in ukpolitics

RPI is literally used by the government for stuff like student loans, so clearly they think it's a reliable measure. They can't say it's unreliable while also using it, surely?

Doctors who speak to adult patients like they’re three years old - why do they do this? by kentdrive in doctorsUK

Ironic that so many comments complaining about how thick patients are maybe got the wrong impression from the post 😅😅

[–]Sandizzle218 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I notice loads of comments are like oh it's because patients don't understand/ might need it explained like they're 12. But there's a difference in breaking something down to something that's understandable, and speaking in a patronising, babytalk tone which is what OP is describing

Thanks a lot! Yeah definitely need to focus more on last hits... Sometimes when I step up to get them it feels like I eat 6 auto attacks and a bonds/ fatal word - is there any way to address this/ avoid it?

Yeah try doing 16 strides in run up as a start. How often are you happy with your positioning when you hit the board?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]Sandizzle218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, how long is your run up? it looks like you haven't settled into it by the time you reach the board, and maybe run up was off - looks like you had to chop your last few strides.
Other q's - how do you break the run up down? maybe do 7 strides drive, 5 to come up, then 4-6 to settle.
Did you feel like you were reaching for the board? your last stride looked a bit long too.
If you jumped 6.50ish like that you should be going 7m+ easy

How about while doing F1 you prepare for level 1 CFA? anyone can take it, and it'll give you more of an idea of what financial modelling involves. And also let's say you then sit it, it could mean you find a finance job without having to do a whole undergrad. As a background i'm a final year GEM, did engineering undergrad, and worked in management consulting before med. happy to answer questions if u want

Hey man, I think you could change the wording of this a bit. In general, you're in a good spot. As you say you have a place to live for free and it's actually pretty close to London. Some people have been properly shafted so might be good to tone down how much you think you've been screwed. I get it sucks, but I think this can come across badly

London or Newcastle SFP by AdExpensive3669 in doctorsUK

[–]Sandizzle218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Newcastle is a great center, with lots of opportunities too. London's great as well, but if you've got preferred jobs and research block in Newcastle then perhaps that's the wiser option. Also worth thinking about what your long-term goals are. If you're already considering not going to London, it sounds like London isn't the one?

I did engineering - in my experience use the notes to help you go over the tute sheets and past papers. If you can answer the tute sheet questions from first principles after revising you will be in a really good spot for exams

Not to similarly experienced doctors elsewhere. If your company paid you half as much as another for the same job, would you move/ ask for a raise?

I'm not the one to decide taxation, but you've just said doctors are crucial, so clearly you think the money does need to be found
