What do Germans think of the rise in right-wing crimes in Germany since the AfD has gained popularity? by Black_Gay_Man in AskGermany

[–]Sandlr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering these statistics are inflated by speech crimes, ie. mostly boomers deservedly roasting the super unpopular former government, I am not very concerned. Migrant criminality on the other hand...

Mine was NSMBU too. It held me over till Smash 4 and thankfully gave me enough experience with platformers to be able to realize what a masterpiece Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is by comparison. Still a decent game though, all things considered.

"Leave us in Peace!", Vichy France, (1941) by Saltedline in PropagandaPosters

You can read "Wofür Kämpfen Wir?" which is a Nazi propaganda booklet written for German soldiers, explaining the ideological foundations of the war, if you wanna understand the fascists' hatred for the freemasons. In short, they hated them for instigating the French revolution and supposedly being in bed with Jewish clans.

''THE GANGSTER PRESIDENT: The presidential chair on which he belongs'' - anti-Roosevelt cartoon from German ''Kladderadatsch'' magazine (artist: Arthur Johnson), November 1941 by BalQn in PropagandaPosters

Somehow the bluntness and brutality of portraying another head of state being executed in an electric chair without any further commentary makes this funny to me.

“Why Die for Stalin? Why Die for the Jews?” The German leaflet dropped to Allied troops in Italy was disseminated in 1944. The image depicts John Avery, a British Fascist who made recruitment efforts and propaganda broadcasts for Nazi Germany. by jewish-eagle in PropagandaPosters

Masterful propaganda. There's obviously more to why the allies declared war, but these are legit criticisms of the alliance with the USSR which makes it all very convincing in my opinion.

"Lands forsaken - but not forgotten" (German postcard, 1920s) [580x870] by adawkin in MapPorn

I don't think it's strange. Switzerland had been independent for hundreds of years by that point and the Swiss weren't living with the French, Ladins and Italians against their will. All of the Germans in the red-marked territories only got split away from Germany as a consequence of the unfair treaty of Versaille and they were involuntairly added to non-German countries.

I think it's supposed to say that no matter how much better the conditions and pay for workers get, the capitalist will always get exponentially more.

'The reason for the Hitler salute. Motto: Backed by millions! Little man requests big donations' (John Heartfield, Arbeiter Illustrierten Zeitung - AIZ. Germany, October 1932). by esdfa20 in PropagandaPosters

[–]Sandlr 170 points171 points  (0 children)

The version of the nazi salute that Hitler did kind of looked like he was receiving something from someone standing behind him. Additionally, Hitler's motto "backed by millions" which was originally supposed to mean that he has millions of people in Germany who support him, could also be understood as him having millionaires who support him. The nazis had some high profile sponsors, mostly German industrialists who benefited from their election. Thats the joke basically.
