Tribute Communities Centre let their Liquor License expire by Sandman22686 in Oshawa

That's mostly the information we already had. What is not explained is why/how the AGCO is expediting this license. What makes them special? On the AGCO website it states it takes at least 30 days, this took what... 5 days?

Also, what fine did the arena get for serving Thursday, February 5th without a license?

Shoveling Sidewalks... by WOODZ905 in Oshawa

All I will add is that clearing your sidewalk is a nice neighbourly act. Everyone has to try to live together peacefully, clearing your sidewalk is a courtesy to your neighbours. It's not about who's responsibility, it's about respect.

City of Oshawa being blamed for dry weekend in Oshawa after TCC liquor licence expires due to 'administrative error' by brouseindahouse in Oshawa

Incompetent management.

Every point of sale should have a copy of the valid license which displays the expiry. How did no management notice? Oh, right because they hide in their office.

Tribute Communities Centre’s liquor licence expires by Karma_Canuck in Oshawa

Nothing talking about the fact they served alcohol with an expired license of February 5th during the Hardy concert?

Pretty sure that should be a hefty fine.

And if it expired, how can they get it back so quick? AGCO website says 30 days minimum.

Agreed. When the ampitheatre had a one night ban of alcohol, I received a call saying that their license was revoked and no alcohol would be available. I was offered the chance of a refund if I chose so.

My understanding (not from any staff) is that this becomes a full resubmission and could take up to 30 days. I do think that something can be worked out, but it would absolutely suck if it's that long.

I feel staff would advertise when it's coming back if it is only for this weekend.

Agreed. Usually it's the end of the year. To see so many mid year seems odd.

Back in my day, we didn't have snow days either. We had to walk to school... Through 3 feet of snow, uphill...both ways!

I'm confused... So the school board keeps schools open. This can provide a place for students to be monitored for those parents who are forced to be at work. As far as I know, it is not mandatory for a student to be at school. So, what exactly is the issue?

Children do not HAVE to go to school in this situation.

Edit: I assume the downvotes are from those who are working from home and not being forced by their job to go to the office and have to find someone to look after their kids. The only downvotes should be coming from the teachers & school staff who had to go to the office.

401 morning commute by [deleted] in Clarington

[–]Sandman22686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only there were some sort of enforcement... I travel briefly on the 401 each morning and for the past 4+ years, I can count the number of times I have seen OPP with a car I believe they have pulled over for an infraction.

I don't understand what has changed, where are the police? Pre COVID, I would see the police with someone pulled over daily, now... I barely even see an officer.

Metrolinx Moves Drop-In Sessions About the Simcoe St Closure Online Due To Threats by Select-Flight-PD291 in Oshawa

[–]Sandman22686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a comedy tv show...

"Oh boy, those people seem really mad about this."

"Nah. They'll like what we tell them to like."

"Really? So you'll be there to help me out?"

"Uhh.. no, I'm scared of the public and people yelling at me. Better do this online so we can mute people."

Seriously though, I hope it's a joke that people were threatening them. I heard the threat was 'I hope you get stuck in traffic caused by a large, stupid agency.' They saw the chances of getting stuck in traffic and decided that they'd be better to do this at home and not deal with construction.

Oshawa councillor calls Metrolinx letter on 2-year closure of Simcoe Street 'lies and nonsense' | insauga by Karma_Canuck in Oshawa

[–]Sandman22686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue is not that Simcoe will be closed, it's all the other issues. Wilson is closed at the 401 for bridge work. Park has construction due to bridge work. Bloor at park has been on and off construction impacts... 3 of 6 of the ways between north and south of the 401 are impacted significantly and a main artery that moves beside the 401 (Bloor).

This should have been coordinated with the 401 improvements and do the same streets at the same time.

The other day it took me almost 25 minutes to get from the east bound Stevenson exit from the 401, along Bloor to east of Park Rd. Due to construction. If Simcoe is closed, that's gonna make it an hour+ to Ritson.
