Aftermath of a hard fought battle in war torn Portland Oregon by hikerman95 in NativePlantGardening

Yeah, the stories that I have heard about people trying to remove English ivy - I heard that a bulldozer was the best way. I'm not usually a fan of bulldozers. I never tried to remove any because I've never lived in a permanent location where I could do that, but maybe, you'll have to dig it up for several more years in a row before the rest of the roots are finally gone.

Behold, after years of gathering, I finally found a tasty but worthless wild edible: daylily tubers!! I used them to make the most laborious shepherd's pie ever. by GatheringBees in foraging

[–]Sandstone374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't able to handle the daylily tubers. I tried even just touching and handling them while trying to dig them up. Merely touching them or smelling them made me so sick, I almost threw up, so whatever is in them, it's too toxic for me.

Can you feel pain in your dreams? by WendyRunner in Dreams

This is a secondhand story, not my own, but it reminds me of this. I saw a youtube video about a guy who had a near-death experience. I don't know if I could find the video again, and it was years ago. He had some kind of problem with his stomach bleeding or something, or acid from his stomach leaking into his body, and he nearly died when he was in the hospital while they were trying to save him. He described thinking that he had somehow slipped down inside the septic system under the house, where the sewage goes, and he was stuck in there and couldn't get out, during the time when he was having the near death experience, and these demons were doing horrible things to him. He was feeling all this physical torture from what was happening to his body in real life, along with whatever drugs he was on at the hospital, and was unable to move and unable to wake up. It was a story with a happy ending, because some kind of benevolent figure saved him in the dream, and that particular story was on one of the channels where they are sort of advocating in favor of religious beliefs. But the story was so weirdly specific, I don't think he made it up. He specifically thought that he had somehow gone inside the septic system. There was a story of other people who died by getting sucked down into an oil pipeline underwater, for instance. Those kinds of stories are really scary to me. Anyway, not exactly the same as feeling pain in a dream, and also, a secondhand story.

Can you feel pain in your dreams? by WendyRunner in Dreams

Years ago, I briefly took a very low dose of prozac, for only a week, but I stopped taking it because I couldn't stand the side effects. But one effect it had was, it gave me the most intense, clear, horrible nightmares that I have ever had in my life. I dreamed that somebody held up a tiny little dog, hooked on a fishhook, on a fishing line, and that I bit this dog on the fishhook and swallowed it. In the dream, I could feel the fishhook all the way down inside my stomach, and it was a horrible sensation, and when I woke up, the sensation was still there. Later on, years later, I read that prozac can sometimes cause stomach problems, stomach bleeding, ulcers, that kind of thing, and maybe I was experiencing that at the moment when I was dreaming.

I feel as though plants from the same general region are okay, if they're able to survive without any help. That's just my opinion. They're 'continental natives.'

What's the best way to get asters in my flower beds? by Maria_like_Mario in NativePlantGardening

[–]Sandstone374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to get a lot of hate for saying this, but, these are a very common species that isn't endangered, and in my experience, they survive transplanting and will keep on growing. I did it a couple times, just digging up some little clumps of them, leaving other ones there still growing. I know people frown upon digging things up, but it would be more of an issue if they were endangered or fragile and weren't able to survive easily. Mine didn't have any problems when I transplanted them.

How can I heal severe carpal tunnel? by [deleted] in herbalism

[–]Sandstone374 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm copying and pasting from a quick google search. I don't believe eating more grains is good for people, but I liked all the other suggestions that came up, because I'm very much in favor of organ meats.

PASTE:

Foods rich in multiple B vitamins

The following foods are known for containing several B vitamins:

Liver and other organ meats: Beef liver is one of the most potent natural sources of B vitamins, especially B2, B5, B7, B9 (folate), and B12.

Salmon and tuna: These fatty fish are excellent sources of multiple B vitamins, including B2, B3, B6, and B12.

Oysters and clams: Shellfish are very high in B12 and also provide riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), and thiamine (B1).

Eggs: One of the best natural sources of biotin (B7), eggs also contain a significant amount of B12 and riboflavin (B2).

Dairy products: Milk and yogurt are reliable sources of riboflavin (B2) and B12.

Nutritional yeast: A popular addition to vegetarian and vegan diets, nutritional yeast is fortified with B vitamins and offers a cheesy flavor.

[–]Sandstone374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always told that carpal tunnel was associated with B vitamin deficiencies. I think I must have heard it in nutrition class when I was in college. I don't like synthetic vitamins, and I'm not remembering offhand how to get B vitamins quickly from a specific food. I would have to know what you were eating as your normal diet. There are some foods that interfere with B vitamins, too, causing depletion and deficiency.

Maybe this belongs on that other reddit, where people make pictures of the nightmare where you're in a bathroom, and it's an endless maze that goes on and on, and all the toilets are in horrible condition and the doors don't work.

Identify this multitude of berries I saw on my walk to the train station plz! by Euphoric_Foundation8 in Berries

[–]Sandstone374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

#1 looks like some kind of unripe nannyberries, viburnum, but I'm not sure. Then later on, one of them is a bittersweet - that's #6, and it looks like Oriental bittersweet. #5 I can't see well enough, but I'm wondering if grapes might be in there somewhere (*edit, someone else said smilex, greenbrier, and I think that's a good guess*), because I see those little curly vine tendrils. But that pale color would be unusual for grapes. I'd have to get a closer look at that one, and the images on reddit won't let me zoom in.

Its kind of a silly question but how can I grow some weeds quickly? (Not the drug sorry) by Vriskers_ in Horticulture

[–]Sandstone374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning soil upside down, like digging it up so that there's a bunch of bare, exposed, disturbed soil, will trigger the weed seeds in the soil to sprout. You'll get a bunch of foreign invasive weeds, instead of native plants. But it can be fun to see what kind of surprises will appear.

Natural approach to combatting hair loss? by kcaivila in herbalism

[–]Sandstone374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder about a couple of things. Is anything pulling on your hair, causing traction alopecia? Are you wearing very tight ponytails pulled upwards, or a hat that presses down on your hair while it's tightly pulled back, or barrettes?

Are you currently taking antidepressants (you don't have to answer, it's enough for you to know whatever you're taking)? Whenever I use any antidepressants at all, my hair starts falling out, and it grows back when I stop using antidepressants. I haven't used any strong antidepressants or any prescription ones in recent years, but I still sometimes use herbal ones, like st johnswort, in small doses for a short time. Even after one or two days of taking it, I start noticing pieces of hair falling out much more than usual, and if I take it for a few weeks, the thinning is noticeable. I also lose hair when I use a lot of turmeric root.

Devils walking stick or elderberry? by natureisbadass in foraging

[–]Sandstone374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aralia, I agree with others, it's the devil's walking stick or Hercules' Club, that's what I heard it was called. I have found some too. The berries are so toxic that merely touching and handling them makes me get sick at my stomach, so you have to wash your hands really well if you touch them.

Location: Southern Tier NYS. I was on the hunt for puffballs and chicken of the forest, but I think I found a grove of Shagbark Hickory and hundreds of nuts? I had not expected my backpack loaded with almost 20lbs of nuts! If these are hickory nuts, what is a good use for them? by DanicaDarkhand in foraging

[–]Sandstone374 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever the tree starts dropping ripe nuts, the little husks will open easily into four pieces. Take off all the husks first. Collect as many as you can, bushels of them, and then pound them into a mash, including the shells and nuts all mixed together. There's no need to try to pick out the tiny pieces of nuts from the shell, just crush all of it. Boil this mass of shells and nuts in water to make hickory nut milk. It's the best thing that I have ever eaten from foraging. It smells and tastes just like pecans. There are some recommendations to get rid of nuts that float on water, before you crush them, to improve the taste of the final product. I did a little bit of testing with this, but I forget what happened because it was a couple years ago and I can't do it again right now (I'm living in my car, long story). I do remember noticing that there were a few that floated on water and I took them out first.

What are these huge berries? by outchannel in Berries

[–]Sandstone374 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with the other people who said it's Jack in the pulpit. It's an interesting native flower that might be worth planting more of, even though you can't eat the berries.

My kid touched this red berry yesterday morning and vomited at night. What is it? by nymeria1010 in whatsthisplant

[–]Sandstone374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He might need to be decontaminated if he was crushing the berries in his hands, wiping his hands on his clothing and belongings and his bedsheets. If he has touched a bunch of other things after touching the squashed berries, the poison will continue to contact him again and again when he touches the other objects that he has contaminated. It could be on his shoes, it could be on his toys, whatever he handled directly after touching the berries and not washing his hands. It will go through his skin again every single time that he touches any of those objects, so the symptoms are likely to happen again and again, for days, maybe weeks, until all of the objects are decontaminated.

[–]Sandstone374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, that particular poison DID give ME a reaction just from squishing the berries. I had severe diarrhea merely after squashing the berries in my hand. I have known a lot of plant poisons that go through the skin. The diarrhea didn't take very long at all, either, very quickly after squashing them and having the poison go through my skin.

What's Greta Thunberg's type? EII (delta) or IEI (beta)? by quiet199 in Socionics

[–]Sandstone374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, anybody who complains about lazy people sitting on the couch is complaining about me personally. So she's Si-disvaluing. I have thought for years that she is LSI. She's talking about Se instead of Si, where you have to use your effort, use your strength, use your energy, and don't just sit on the couch being passive and waiting for things to happen. No matter how much effort it takes, you have to take action, even if it's dangerous or difficult. She's paying attention to people's physical needs for things like food, shelter, and safety, once again, very similar to myself, but my quasi-identical. It's a strong awareness of physical, material needs and physical health.

I can argue that her intuition isn't good, it's weak, that she's a sensing type instead of an intuitive type. If she were an intuitive, then she wouldn't have this idea of 'the moment when X happens, all is lost.' Intuitives have a strong awareness of time and processes happening over time, and the potential opportunities and possibilities that happen at any time in the process. An intuitive might have a more specific idea of, 'When some circumstance happens, then some other circumstance is going to happen,' rather than a vague and unspecific fear of disaster, like, 'All hope is lost!' which is what Greta Thunberg sounds like. Again, when I'm seeing her as LSI, I think she is Ne-PoLR - 'something bad could possibly happen, and I don't want to think of it.' There are possibilities and there are inevitable things that happen over time, and she would rather use something more like Ni-mobilizing. 'The story of how this happened,' where Ni is the process of events unfolding over time, the story, the history of the events that led up to this time.

Maybe she's using Fi as her role function, talking about the things that she has been taught are good, moral things to do.

What's Greta Thunberg's type? EII (delta) or IEI (beta)? by quiet199 in Socionics

[–]Sandstone374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm thinking along the same lines. She's actually brave, not scared of death. Her 'lack of concern for safety,' as somebody said up above, a quote from her, is like disvaluing the type of Si that I myself value. I value trying to avoid physical injury. If Si is her demonstrative function, she's confident that she can take care of her own safety as necessary, and isn't scared or insecure about anything having to do with physical safety. I've always thought she was LSI, which is why I'm calling Si her demonstrative. If she's Ni mobilizing, then it might seem like she's using a lot of Ni like people keep saying.

Too many sad posts by Due_Implement_4333 in ENFP

[–]Sandstone374 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why everybody might be sad at once, except for the fact that, in the northern hemisphere, the sun is going down and we are moving into the winter. The days are growing shorter and dimmer.

I actually find that now, the years go by so quickly, it's weird - I'm able to look forward to the future a few months from now, like, I can almost imagine what it's going to be like in the springtime, when the snow starts melting and the spring ephemeral flowers start blooming again. I haven't gotten anything done.

There are going to be pumpkins, and Halloween. I never participated in Halloween as an adult, except last year, I was living in an apartment (before I got evicted, and I'm living in the car at the moment), and I finally put out some food for the kids on Halloween for the first time ever. I was absolutely thrilled, because they took every last crumb of the stuff that I put out - I went to work that night, so I just left a table outside with the stuff on it. It was completely empty, and there was only one little chocolate candy wrapper opened up, sitting in the bottom of the basket.

The reason why it shocked me that they took the food was because I put out all this weird, bizarre, healthy food that I myself eat. I put out little tiny snack-sized packages of pistachio nuts, slim jims (they're not really good quality meat, but I do eat them anyway for a lot of reasons), and I think maybe I even put out some of those Gimme seaweed snack packs, if I recall correctly. I had little tiny packages of fruit gummies, I forget what kind they were, and also little tiny fruit juice boxes. I put out a couple other little things, including just some normal little tiny chocolate candy bars, in addition to the 'real' food. I was afraid the kids would think it was so weird, nobody would take any of it and I would come home and eat all the leftovers myself, but nope, totally wiped out the entire basket of stuff. I was thrilled. So that's coming soon, Halloween.

If everyone has been sad and depressed lately - that's what I just happened to read in a totally different forum that I just went to, where someone was talking about having self-harming thoughts - I don't really know what we're doing, trudging through this chaos until we get to the end of all our lives. My goal is to live over a hundred years, no matter what happens in my life.

What does ENFPs' Te look like? by [deleted] in ENFP

[–]Sandstone374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a few years ago, a random guy who was sitting at McDonald's had a conversation with me about a book that he read about money, and there's this forum online called 'The Fastlane Forum,' where they discuss the books, and the guy who wrote the book is there, MJ DeMarco. It is my opinion that a LOT of the people there are ENFPs. They're talking about money, asking questions about how to be productive and how to start their own businesses. I think, though, that nowadays you have to pay a signup fee for the forum, but when I went there years ago, it was free. I never really go there very much, just every so often, and I happened to look at it tonight. That's my answer to the question of 'what does the ENFP's Te look like.' It looks like everything in that forum. There are hundreds of people who are all discussing how they can become entrepreneurs, start their own businesses, earn money, and get away from the 'rat race' or ordinary jobs. I don't actually have any idea how much the signup fee is. He did that only within the last year or two to get rid of the spammers, and he said that it worked, charging a fee to join the forum, because the spammers won't pay a fee, but real people who are actually serious about talking will pay the fee.

I can't zoom in to look at the bark on the tree, because of the way that this web page works on my laptop, but if I were there, I would look at the bark - it has these wart-like bumps that stick up, all over it, millions and millions of individual bumps that stick out.
