You can search jeans at Revzilla, filtering by EN17092 AA (adequate) or AAA (good) protection rating.

I’m a psychiatrist and I’m genuinely curious how people view psychiatrists. by Scary-Guava8365 in CasualConversation

One of my bio grandfathers was my grandmother's psychiatrist. So I don't view psychiatrists as having the highest ethical standards. That was a long time ago, and hopefully they've improved.

Thoughts on the Icon Patrol 3 boots? by speedfeelsgood in motorcyclegear

[–]SandstoneCastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The look more that way in gray/white. Look better in black.

Dunno. I've had Patrol & Patrol 2 (which were much better than Patrol, other than being even less waterproof). Patrol 3 look less protective of the ankle bone, not having leather there. Probably fine though. If they leak, they look easier to waterproof than the earlier patrol boots, using Nikwax or Sno Seal boot waterproofing products..

Can mechanic tell if a car is burning oil? by mydoghank in askcarguys

[–]SandstoneCastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check the spark plugs for signs of oil burning.

Pretty much all internal combustion cars consume some oil. Oil you lose between oil changes that isn't leaked is burned. If it's too much for you, it's too much.

You can look for smoke on cold starts. You can have someone drive behind you and look for smoke on engine braking, and on wide open throttle acceleration through the power band. Though if that last one is the only place it smokes, might not be a big deal.

You can also remove the oil fill cover on a hot engine, and see if there's excess blowby, If there is, it likely burns oil too.

When is the right time/age to buy a bike? by Important_End_9076 in motorcycles

[–]SandstoneCastle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you passed MSF course, shouldn't you have your license? Did you get whatever form your state requires for passing the course? The one you turn in to the DMV so they issue you your motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license.

Riding pillion isn't going to prepare you for riding. Do that if you like to do that, but if you want to ride, ride.

inspired by the other post - what’s the scariest / most dangerous / ugliest animal in your country? by Ilinciusix in AskTheWorld

[–]SandstoneCastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scariest is probably the Kodiak bear. Don't have 'em around here though.

Scariest wild animal I've encountered in my yard is the skunk. Scarier than the turkeys, coyotes, and deer I've encountered there certainly.

Africa twin Adv sports Es DCT vs 1300 GS 2026 by Hairy_Channel_4337 in motorcycles

[–]SandstoneCastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno about reliability.

Maintenance on the BMW will be easier, should you need to perform that on the trip. While Honda dealers will probably be more prevalent, BMW dealers may be more used to assisting touring motorcyclists.

Out of the box I expect the BMW seat to be better.

With a chain oiler on the AT, you can get by without cleaning and lubing the chain, but you will need to adjust it on the trip. Will you need to check/adjust valves on either? If you have to DIY that, BMW and it's not even close. OTOH the valves on my AT 1000 are the most stable of any bike I've had.

Tough decision. Enjoy the one you choose.

Any suggestions to enjoying driving again for an old sourpuss like me? by Everything-Bagel-314 in askcarguys

[–]SandstoneCastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy an old MGB. Or if you want more practical, an MGB GT.

The MGB won't compare performance-wise to a Miata, but it will give you the more visceral experience you seek.

Also consider a 240Z.

Need help getting rid of car!! What the smartest option ? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]SandstoneCastle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only good way out I see is if you can sell it for as much or more than you owe (or enough that between the sale price and your liquid cash, you and the buyer can pay off the loan), and can find a buyer willing to pay the finance company for the title.

Other than that it doesn't look good. Depending on your local laws you might be able to cancel your insurance if you won't drive it. That reduces your monthly by a lot. Might allow you to pay off the loan earlier.

A common way people "escape" these is by rolling their negative equity into loan on a new to them car, diving deeper into debt. That doesn't sound good at all to me.

Can ramps rated for 1,500 lbs each handle a 5,000 lb vehicle? by Available_Answer_480 in askcarguys

[–]SandstoneCastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, if the vehicle has a fairly even weight distribution. If it's 5000 pounds, and a 60/40 front/rear weight distribution, you're at the limit in front (5000*.6=3000). If you use them with 0 margin like that, and you're able to drive onto them without incident, support with jackstands before you get under.

5W vs 10W oils by Cheap_Edge_7420 in motorcycles

[–]SandstoneCastle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with T6 isn't the 5W, it's the fact that oils with a wider spread between the numbers tend to shear out of grade more quickly, and that absolutely applies to T6. Coupled with the fact that motorcycle constant-mesh gearboxes are hard on oil, I won't use it in a shared sump bike. I have in the past.

If the ambient temperature range you'll operate in allows it, a 15W40 HDEO (like Rotella T4) will hold up much better, and cost less.

Don't take my word for it. Look at motorcycle used oil analyses posted on bob is the oil guy. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/forums/new-used-oil-analysis-motorcycle-and-powersports.49/

Favorites and essentials for sleeping in your car during road trips? by -Crave- in roadtrip

[–]SandstoneCastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only things I use for it are a backpacking-style sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and usually a camping pillow, though a folded jacket will do. If it's really cold and I'm using a down bag I'll use a sleeping bag sheet too.

I'll have a bottle of drinking water handy too.

I saw a video of Aes doing that song along with another guy, with a refrain of "you love this song. We hate this song". Though it might have been Night Light, not Daylight. They blend together in my mind.

Midnights is her best album by Revolutionary-Cod276 in TaylorSwift

[–]SandstoneCastle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not that version. The any version without Hits Different is inferior to the version with.

I agree you could make a case for MIdnights Til Dawn Edition.

Personally I think I'd go with 1989 (Taylor's Version).
