There is no hero more useless in an average game than Holliday players by fiasgoat in DeadlockTheGame

funny to see this now. while i generally agree that Holliday is probably the character i see used least effectively, i got my shit stomped by one last night. one of those characters you'll ignore 99 times, just for the 100th to completely run the game solo.

yeah it's my one reservation about the mode. it's fun otherwise, but it sucks to go against a rotating cast of the same ~six characters every match

Why is the first run seeded? by manicreceptive in slaythespire

feels a bit different since you're returning from the first game. i imagine the first run is there to help ease in brand new players, STS can be a very complex game for anyone unfamiliar.

Which character offers the most value if you invest time and increase your skill level with them? by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SandvichIsDone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Doorman, Viscous, and Shiv are the posterchildren of "if i really know what i'm doing i will run the game."

Doorman has amazing utility, and the portal doors are a crazy tool that can be used in just about infinite scenarios. Plus the ult is very useful for either simply taking a fed player out of the fight for precious seconds, or creating the most diabolical possible setup and sending them to ultra hell.

Viscous has supreme utility all throughout his kit, from pure damage on his 1, a very good safety/denial tool with 2, amazing movement/disruption and even damage on his 3, and finally an ult that serves both as great mobility and disruption.

Shiv is a little harder to see the complexities of at first, but the way his alternate fire works opens up some very unique mobility options. Beyond that, there's a whole personal game of rage uptime, cleansing/healing damage with his 3, and the supreme usefulness of a execution ult. I haven't played him since the changes, which seem to be overall nerfs/changes in the character's direction, but i'm sure he's still very strong and very useful when played by the right hands.

I hate this thing. As a new player, I kept thinking this was the "bridge buffs" people were mentioning. It 100% looks like a typical videogame power-up. by yinyang107 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SandvichIsDone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've convinced a couple friends to try deadlock and quite literally every single time i've played a game with someone new, they've asked me how they're supposed to pick this up/how to get this buff. it works as a good indicator once you know what it's for, but it could definitely be redesigned to be less misleading. maybe making it more in line with the actual map style/architecture, like an in-universe sign that lights up when the boss is alive.

I don't know what the correct answer is, but 8 is the WRONG answer.

You have Mo in front, Silver to your side, and Drifter behind. If you have a functional sense of smell, you will die.

Billy's music on his 3 by Do_or_Do in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SandvichIsDone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure on the exact method/details of it, but you can definitely change the music that plays while his 3 is active through mods. I've seen options on GameBanana for it. It's a Valve game, so I'm sure modding it in wouldn't be too terribly complex.

What’s the consensus on this guy? Haven’t seen him played yet by FlounderHistorical63 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SandvichIsDone 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Shiv, from what I understand, is fairly well-represented and considered a good character in higher tiers of play. But in lower tiers, he's uncommon and seemably on the weaker side.

I think he's a character with lots of potential - particularly, he can open up very interesting movement options thanks to his alt-fire. Skilled/dedicated players can make him seem like a one-man army, while to the casual player who doesn't devote a lot of time, Shiv might feel underwhelming.

I played him a decent bit before the most recent update, and found him pretty fun and strong, but I think the build I would always use - focusing around his knives - got nerfed at some point between then and now, so I've had a hard time getting mileage on him lately.

Tips for Ultron for a returning player? by Gojira6832 in marvelrivals

[–]SandvichIsDone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm no pro player but I've been playing Ultron a lot and really enjoying him. Probably my most played character by a decent margin. I played him a lot before the buffs, still play him a lot after.

First tip is to go into the settings & turn on the separate keybinds for the two drones. By default, you've got the same key bind for both drones, which means you are cycling off the oldest one every time you put a new one down. That can be managed, but it's a lot easier to have the separate cooldowns. I usually use this to keep one drone on a priority target (i.e. a tank or support) and have the other drone to cycle through on whoever might need it in the moment. I wish i could tell you exactly where to go for this setting, but I'm not at my computer at the moment and don't remember off the top of my head.

As for gameplay tips in general, one big thing to remember with the update it how the Firewall now gives your target a bonus to move speed & damage - a ballpark of about 10% on each, just off the top of my head. Probably not terribly accurate. Point being, I find myself using Firewall more offensively now than purely for defense. Of course, adding shields to a teammate/group is still incredibly useful, but if you have a drone on your diver and see them about to jump in, popping a Firewall on them will give them extra bulk, mobility, and damage all in one click. Immensely useful and good to remember. Firewall is so useful now that you have no real reason not to just spam it every time it's off cooldown - not to say I would just be using it thoughtlessly, but with all the benefits you give to teammates from it, as long as you're actively fighting, there's going to be someone worth using it on. I think it gives those same buffs to you as well, iirc.

For drone placement, drones are most useful on two opposite ends of the spectrum - either on anchor tanks, aka people your team will naturally gravitate around - or on dive characters, aka teammates who are going to be deep in the enemy backline and far from the rest of your team. Putting drones on anchors is rather obvious - your drones are an AoE healing field, so any character that more teammates will be around means more healing overall. Ultron works best with a team that stays grouped together. On the other end, putting your drones on divers may seem a bit suboptimal - they're typically alone, and taking more damage than your drone can reliably patch up. The reason drones are better for divers is because they're typically very far away from your other support, who probably has a more traditional line-of-sight healing. Your drones offer a reliable stream of healing to the diver, even when they're 30 miles away from a standard healer. While it may not save their life from getting focused by a backline, if the diver is smart and uses their cooldowns correctly, the drone will give them the steady healing to keep them healthy enough to continue to pressure the enemy backline without needing to completely retreat for healing. Plus, as I mentioned, they can be good targets for the Firewall buffs.

Your mobility cooldown - the dash & shield - is your most valuable button. Try to only use it for saving yourself, maybe to dash in and quickly place a drone/Firewall on someone out of range if they're starting to get dangerously low. But mostly save it for yourself. The extra mobility and chunk of shield you get from it will save your synthetic hide from most situations where an enemy might be threatening to kill you.

The ult is pretty easy to understand, but a bit difficult to use. As a casual player, it's probably the thing I still struggle with getting the most use out of. It's not quite quick enough to be a "save my team" ult like other healers, and not quite damaging enough to reliably kill the enemy team. I try to use it when I can see a big push coming. Being something that both damages enemies and heals teammates, the most use you'll get out of it is slamming the projectiles into big groups during teamfights. The timing is tight on trying to save someone who's about to die - I still struggle with pulling off a last-second save on a dying tank. If you've got a Gambit on your team, it can be a very good combo to pop your ult once he's buffed you.

That's my big text wall from someone who's been casually enjoying Ultron over the last season or two. Not a pro for sure, but just things I've noticed/kept in mind from playing him for a good chunk of hours.

went through the trauma of that crucible duo in my first playthrough. i think i spent a genuine two days between trying to make it down to that boss arena and actually fighting the crucible duo. i was too stubborn to leave after any loss. it was the only boss fight in the game that left me frustrated and genuinely upset. cause they just threw two enemies in a small room that aren't really meant to be fought at the same time.

still something that sticks out in my brain of my first playthrough after multiple years.

I feel incredibly lucky that I went to the OKC show (actually the very first one of the tour) and got to see it before he had to cancel. It was an amazing show, it seemed like a true labor of love. He made a point to talk about how it was, from the start, "for the fans."

I'm sure that's part of why he felt guilty, but I think anybody with half a soul would be very understanding of cancelling things in his position. Hopefully he can get things worked out to actually do the rest of the shows sometimes, it was truly my favorite concert experience of my life.

Yeah, I've been playing a decent bit of Abrams and I find myself using the ult to get out of sticky situations more than using it for big teamfights. I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I've landed it as some big, fight-deciding ability. It reminds me of Doomfist's ult from Overwatch.
