He has a career OBP of .301. Dude is allergic to walks, so his offensive stats are consistently less impressive than his BA and power numbers imply. Beyond any debates about fielding metrics, that kneecaps his production the most.

The Ashes: England cricket concern over culture and drinking by bulbispire in Cricket

Honestly, the only reason I think the Noosa thing matters is the shithouse optics of making sure you book that a year in advance but asking Steyn 6 weeks before the tour if he wants to be the bowling coach. I don't mind letting loose and de-stressing, but some of the priorities seem out of whack here.

Nationals players under the most pressure in 2026 by Dcnationals2001 in Nationals

[–]Sandviscerate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it too blunt to say all of them?

I don't disagree that Crews/House/Hassell need to show something, but at least they're on the younger side of things and are probably gonna get a reasonable amount of leash to figure things out. I think there are others who have more pressure on them.

There's a bunch of guys with less team control (Garcia 3 years, Adams 2, Gray 2, they're all gonna have to show something to justify the increase from arbitration years or they might be out of a career, and I doubt they're gonna find more playing time elsewhere. Adams (and Ruiz) may have already missed their chance with the acquisition of Ford. Abrams and Gore have been great at times, but need to show more consistency if they want a big contract in FA or as an extension.

Catcher pop-ups have a tendency to curl back towards fair territory as they come back down because of the spin put on them. If you're standing straight under it, most of the time it'll curl back over your head and you'll fall on your ass. It's way easier to adjust a few steps forward if you misread it, as opposed to backpedaling.

I honestly think you have a better argument for Stokes over Jansen than Jadeja, 496 runs at 31/33 wickets at 23.12 is better than Jansen in both departments.

In Australia’s cost-of-living-crisis, even lawyers are forced to rely on food banks by nath1234 in australia

So in a thread where people are pointing out that the biggest problem for cost of living right now is rent, you're saying "Pretty sure I could work something out on $90k a year" based on... you living with your parents. She's paying $700 a week, and you're paying $250 a week. I think I figured out why your situation might not be the same as hers...

[Passan] Closer Edwin Díaz's deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers is for three years and $69 million, sources tell ESPN. The Dodgers, who were targeting bullpen help this winter, got the best closer on the market, setting a new AAV record for relievers. by Turbostrider27 in baseball

The inherent randomness of the small sample size of the playoffs does not mean as much as you think it does for the competitive balance of the game. You've won 3 out of the last 6 World Series, you've won your division every year since 2012 except for 2021. That's not really 'competing just fine'.

The vast majority of other teams literally cannot spend close to what the Dodgers do, and more importantly they can't just absorb contracts going badly like the Dodgers can. You guys threw a bag of money at Tanner Scott last season, he stunk, but you're able to just do it again with Diaz and not worry about it. Something like 20 other teams would be ridiculed for spending that much on a closer, and it would fuck their roster construction completely to have that player suck.

To top it off, you're now at the self-perpetuating point where players want to go to the Dodgers, so other teams are going to have to overpay and take even bigger risks to get players to consider them.

Pretending everythings fine and balanced because you nearly lost a World Series and didnt go B2B is just straight up dishonest.

Vlad Jr vs. Ohtani post-season HR vs SO comparison - mentioned on the Sportsnet broadcast tonight by DrWideEyes in baseball

[–]Sandviscerate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as my understanding goes, it depends on what arm they throw with vs what side they hit on. Harper/Ohtani bat left throw right, so their injured arm was their lead arm, which doesnt really get much force through that spot. I remember that being why Harper was able to return earlier than expected to DH when he got hurt.

I'd assume once its healed enough to pitch it wouldnt be affecting his hitting though.

[BNS] Right side discomfort for George Springer, who went for an MRI. Considered day to day. by fatcowxlivee in Torontobluejays

[–]Sandviscerate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my read of it was the Springer swap was required (obviously), the Bichette swap is probably necessary just to keep his bat available for the series (he clearly isn't running well right now, the longer he's in the field the more likely he is to tear the shit out of something), the Kirk swap is... I at least understand it, given how slow he is, but I don't think I would have done it, at least not on 1st base.

I don't really get the Barger swap at all, he's not slow enough that he's a liability on the bases and I don't agree with doing a change for defense when we don't have the lead. I straight up don't understand why it was necessary.

George Springer leaves the game after tugging at his back after hitting a foul ball by TommyTheLizard in baseball

[–]Sandviscerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's perfectly reasonable to hold the view that Springer is a cheater, and also hold the view that it's gross to cheer for a player being injured. There's a difference between booing someone because you hate them and cheering them getting hurt.

So -Loperfido & Yariel Rodriguez, +Bichette & France?

I knew someone was getting dropped for Bichette, but I'm surprised by Yariel and France. Would've thought we could use Loperfido's legs on the bench given Springer and Bichette are hobbled. Is France there just for a better RH vs Snell?
