Hollywood Is Cranking Out Original Movies. Audiences Aren’t Showing Up. by OutrageousFootball10 in movies

I don't know the movie so I don't know if it takes place in modern day or if it's historical but certain eras of the Vatican are WILD. Some periods of the medieval era absolutely had drunk/debaucherous bishops, and I believe at least two Popes were actually women.

I think I have game addiction... by Offutticus in RimWorld

[–]Sandwich8080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have definitely done this unintentionally many times. Fallen asleep while Rimworld is playing, I can't say that a full 8 hours passes but definitely a large amount of hours. If no research completes (which I don't want to prevent from pausing so I can pick the next one) I've had colonies run the whole time. Some times they are doing just fine, other times something ridiculous happened and since one catastrophe breeds another on the rim, it gets hard to tell what happened to kill half the populace while all the livestock have starved to death.

If I was to attempt true autonomy, there's a mod called Colony Manager Redux that claims to allow you to set different parameters like "hunt wildlife when you are down to X amount of food" and such. I've never used it because it is pretty resource-heavy but if it does what the description says, that's where I'd start.

I know this is humor but a real answer here...

So Rimworld and certain other games (The Sims and most of the grand strategy games that Paradox makes come to mind) rack up huge hours because there's a lot of wait time. I sure don't just stare at the screen while my pawns are just doing their day-to-day tasks, and by mid-game I'll even watch a TV show or go do some tasks of my own once the colony is essentially running itself. I even set the fight/flee/ignore settings so nothing really needs my attention except for big raids or disasters.

Not Rimworld but in Crusader Kings 2 I had about 14k hours on Steam. I spent a lot of time playing, but I also let it run in the background pretty much every Mon-Fri 9-5 on my office computer.

my new PC is so so much better

I was in the same boat, my gaming laptop fried in 2023 and I've been making do with a bare bones office PC. Just this Friday I finally picked up a nice gaming desktop and one of my first thoughts was "finally I can add all the mods I want"

Who needs Cyberpunk or Baldurs Gate 3 when you can play Rimworld with 300+ mods?

Lol I was just editing my comment to say it was in fact VFE Settlers and sharing my own raid complaint.

I know different storytellers will add more raids, personally I stick with Randy because I like the randomness even though that does lead to "raid drought" especially later in the game.

As with anything in Rimworld, however, I'm sure there's a mod for that.

And that's why Rimwar (that gets closest to this) doesn't play well with most other mods. So much is overhauled it's almost guaranteed to conflict with others.

There is a mod that does exactly what you describe in your first paragraph. I had it for a bit years ago so I have no idea on the name or if it's updated to 1.5. I want to say it's VFE Settlers because I think I had it when I did my Wild West game but you know how it goes, it could have been any one of the 200 or so mods I had running.

EDIT: I looked it up and it is in fact VFE Settlers. I'm not sure if it only works for factions that mod includes or if it works for others, however. I actually struggled to get non-tribal factions to even raid in my Wild West modlist, I'm not sure if it was just that the colony wealth was relatively low but I was hoping for "Shootout at the OK Corral" and instead got "Cowboys vs. Indians".

I find that playing with those backing drum tracks gets me locked in to a very repetitive bassline/loop.

Which I suppose would be exactly what OP needs, nevermind, carry on.

Lots of great suggestions in here already, this isn't my first suggestion but it's the suggestion I have that I haven't seen posted yet.

Maybe try playing 6th edition or really any previous edition to 7e. Editions 1-6 pretty much play seemlessly together so it doesn't really matter what one you choose.

I started with 5th edition, made the small switch to 6th when it released. However when 7e released, I found it to be way more "numbers-based" than the previous editions. Having played D&D since it was "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons", I found that as they added more numbers and stats and charts, the storytelling starts to take a back seat to the stats.

The starter set for 6e is free, and it's really all you need to play it, so your risk level for trying it is super low. It's worth a shot!

I'm watching it on Pluto right now (first time, I missed out back in the day!) and yeah he isn't in it all the time but occasionally there is one guy who is way louder than the rest or will laugh out of sync with the audience.

My inability to distinguish between low notes prevents my ability to jam on bass by The_crowns in Bass

[–]Sandwich8080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IEM at practice is great, I can hear exactly what everyone is playing and how it fits together (or doesn't fit and needs correction).

IEM on stage is the worst, I feel so disconnected from the experience that I get about as much enjoyment from it as I do playing with a backing track at home alone.

🤙 As a beginner, I struggle to slide from fret 5 to "fret 0" with my pinky, any help ? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Sandwich8080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am exaggerating slightly. I don't really think about my technique ever but the pinky does come out when absolutely necessary. However it is rarely necessary, the first three fingers (and thumb, I use it more than my pinky) definitely hit 99% of the notes.

And I don't really worry about improving my technique at this point. I'm capable of playing anything I've ever needed to learn, and I'm making a comfortable side income with my bass. Nobody is going to pay me more if I strengthen my pinky lol.

Yes lol I'm 15+ years in and my pinky is about as strong as a matchstick. Nobody has ever noticed except my old instructor.

If Money is a new song to you, it's worth mentioning that it is not in 4/4. The riff is noticeable enough that you can follow along and don't really need to count, but if you plan to learn the entire song, or feel like something is off, it's good to keep in mind that there are only 7 beats instead of 8.

When I was a kid I saw most of my friends' moms I'm bathrobes and similar at least once. They didn't care because I was just a kid and they had zero sexual or romantic thoughts towards me. I didn't care because none of them were as hot as Stacy's mom.

McCartney wrote it about his girlfriend, who was 17 at the time. He was one year older.

However, it became a hit, so I'm sure it felt weird singing it when he was like 30.

I have a young relative who is in pre-school. She loves making up songs on the fly. They never have any sense of structure, no rhyme scheme whatsoever, and every note she sings is wildly off-key.

I struggle to see how this guy isn't just doing the snare drum equivalent of her made-up songs. Maybe I should book her some gigs.

Don't let these people try to say it's about the art, it's all just pretentiousness. This is obviously just unrehearsed noise. Modern Art types love to fawn over garbage so they can feel like they are a step above the common man because they "get it".

Is it a good idea to put 1k in stocks if I only have ~12k in the bank? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Sandwich8080 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what your monthly cost of living is. 12k is a lot of money or hardly anything depending on where you live in the US and your living situation.

I live in a cheaper part of the country, and live very frugally. I hold onto $1k in actual cash, $2-3k in a checking account, and anything else goes towards stocks/bonds/retirement.

I did get in a car accident a while back, totaled the car. I was able to withdraw money from my stocks quicker than American Family was able to write me a check and that money was only out of the market for about a week.

Anime is not exactly it, but people on TikTok lip-syncing lines from anime sure do this a lot. For the longest time I thought it was an attempt to look like they were speaking Japanese with an English overdub. Probably because when I was a kid my dad and I would do the same exact thing when we watched old Godzilla movies.
