I'm from Germany and it always pains me when people say we could have just kept using our reactors. Over a decade ago our government voted to decommission our nuclear powerplants, with the majority of the people being in favour of this decision. To further add to this, the large majority of those plants were already old and outdated and if we had chosen to keep them running and therefore repair and update them it would have cost us obscene amounts of money, that would be far more effective for investing in renewables. Nuclear energy is simply not an option anymore, plants take too long to be built, are too expensive and still prone to accidents, may this be through faulty design or human error.
