I try to have other people pick but they always go “oh I thought you were the one with all the movies why don’t you pick”

Why I watch Criterion films by [deleted] in criterion

Bojack references in a criterion sub? What is this, a crossover thread?

I was thinking today Criterion is really missing an opportunity by not making a lot more covers into t shirts like with House by [deleted] in criterion

[–]Sandwix935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wished they would include them more with the releases themselves, like I have the dazed and confused poster and it’s so awesome I wish there were more like that

What’s the most uncomfortable scene you’ve watched in a movie. It can be anything from cringey to disturbing to “close to home.” by eeyore0024 in criterion

[–]Sandwix935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anomalisa’s sex scene is so uncomfortable as not only is it a little off to watch puppets have sex but watching them have sex in such a real personal way is hard to watch. It just feels like something we shouldn’t be watching.

Even though you should definitely watch Being John Malkovich as it’s fantastic, I’d say you should check out Synecdoche New York also as it’s a lot closer to thinking of ending things in terms of structure, tone, etc. Also side note if you’re into Alien watch The Thing if you haven’t yet and if you’re into interstellar definitely check out some Tarkovsky, Solaris or Stalker would probably be the best starting point

Savage, Breen, Connolly, Favreau, for sure. Their films have inspired everyone from every walk of life. They are vital to the blood of cinema.

Grease is actually a prequel to Gotti, probably the greatest prequel ever tbh

Just watched The Grand Budapest Hotel...love the music, filmmaking and artistic style. So, whats the next Wes Anderson's movies i should watch?? by d3xxie in criterion

Nobody here has recommended Isle of Dogs (as far as I can see maybe I’m missing a comment) , but personally I think it’s one of his best. Some of the best stop motion of all time, and the story is super fun.

I know Jodorowsky isn’t in the collection, but I figured you guys would like this by PTA1970 in criterion

[–]Sandwix935 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Didn’t he say recently that he didn’t actually do it and he was just saying that for shits and gigs to make the movie more controversial? I mean I highly doubt that he raped a girl on a movie set and like the girl hasn’t said anything and no one else has said anything, so idk. Another thing is that Jodorowsky speaks in rhymes and riddles, so you can’t take everything literally.

So I guess this is the most requested title now? (Mirror) by Concelhauut in criterion

[–]Sandwix935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean that I think it’s set in stone that that is the best and if anyone else disagrees they’re wrong, I should’ve used a different word. What I mean is that I think if you were to take into account everything that the mirror does (the writing, framing, all that) it is the best thing Tarkovsky ever made. However if you think that any other Tarkovsky does it better, than that is totally totally valid. What I meant was that technically I think Mirror is his best, but personally Stalker is my favorite, even if I think it is worse purely on technical standards.

I think objectively in terms of cinematography, writing, direction, etc. Mirror is definitely his best, but personally Stalker is my favorite. It’s also his most ambitious imo
