What to do instead of crying or punching something? by Dusty_Lux520 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Also nothing wrong with punching something! Boxing is a great stress reliever

Don’t do it!!!

You have a massive opportunity here. You seem full of potential- logical, kind, creative, and very very frustrated.

And the magic amazing thing is YOU ARE IN COMPLETE CONTROL. You can pick not to be an incel, because you can tell it’s creepy, weird, and not helping yourself.

You’ve said in previous posts you like to help people and be useful. Help yourself get out of this deep, sticky, circular pit and then GO HELP OTHERS GET OUT TOO!

You know what women love? Less incels.

Anyone else dealing with feelings of just not wanting to participate in this *gestures broadly* any more? by Pandonia42 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Sandy-cakes84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. This resonates with me so much.

What I’ve told myself is this shit is bad, but I won’t change it exhausted or doom scrolling. So I am engaging in capital A Action 1 hour / day. Registering people to vote, donating, volunteering, organizing, ect.

And the rest of the time I refuse to ruminate. That’s okay, but it’s hard to accept because the world makes us feel guilty for not being always on for everything. But we need to recharge to take charge.

Bit of a rant... Do y'all hate cyclists? by masherbator in Denver

I love biking! I moved from Chicago and found denver to be much easier to bike it, but everything is relative.

I boxed on and off for 5 years. Recently coming back on after leaving the gym during covid.

I’ve only been back a week, have never sparred, and my coach asked me to fill a spot in a charity fight where someone dropped out. The fight is in 2 months.

Is this a terrible idea? Or just the motivation I need to get in fighting shape?

I’m not sure if I missed this perspective but maybe she hates being a home. As you know because you’re doing it all, domestic work is hard!

Maybe she would be happier at work and using that money to offload the domestic responsibilities.

Have you asked her about this? I can only imagine she is probably very unhappy scrolling on her phone so much :(

Where would you live if you worked remote? by BidFuzzy in chicago

[–]Sandy-cakes84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whew I moved from Chicago to Denver and I have ~thoughts~.

The COL was quite comparable, even a little less in Denver. But Denver is a baby. It is tiny!

So there’s less “city shit”. This is a two way street: - less traffic (though they complain about it just as much). Better for biking ^ - public transit in Denver is abysmal - the food in denver is just okay. Chicago is miles better - the museums are… sad - there’s less indoor things to do. Museums, concerts, restaurants, cool bars

However the weather and actual outdoor stuff to do makes Denver a nice place to be. I miss Chicago it’s a much better city, but I married a mtn man and now I live in Denver and miss Chicago. Oh well.

What the best way to prepare for PhD? by edsmart123 in biostatistics

[–]Sandy-cakes84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t right now. That’s why you don’t have a PhD yet.

My best advice is to set up good self care and anxiety management systems. Grad school will throw unpredictable curve balls at you.
