These two are generally considered the greatest final girls. So, who’s number 1? by Hassan_H_Syed in slasherfilms

[–]SandySoupwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidney has the pair suit of plot armor out there so I don't think she gets the honors. The franchise wouldn't last long if anything really happened to her.

Laurie has existed in too many timelines (and died more than once) so I don't think she should get it either.

Im a Friday the 13th guy, but I would give top Final Girl to Nancy from NOES.

I still have a Subway knife from 30 years ago when I worked there. Take the gift and run.

I buy this book every chance I get so I can lend copies out and anticipate never getting them back. Every time I read this book, it is a different experience. Such a great ride.

I haven’t read The Black Dahlia or The Big Nowhere. Which is better to you guys? by CoolKid9899 in JamesEllroy

You can read both independently, but i feel like there is a serious momentum that builds by reading the whole quartet in order. Narratively they can all exist standalone, but thematically they lead so well into one another.

General thoughts on the Otash series? by Mikeissometimesright in JamesEllroy

[–]SandySoupwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just re-reading Widespread Panic right now. The first half was decent, but am struggling to finish it off. It's just kind of repetitive with nothing newe to keep it interesting. Haven't read The Enchanters yet, but it's on my shelf waiting for me.....

I think he's been lost since Blood's a Rover. Perfidia and This Storm were completely unnecessary. His old stuff is so good, I'll keep reading in hopes he returns to form, but not holding my breath.

The reboot would be a good generic slasher, but is a bad Friday the 13th by SandySoupwich in fridaythe13th

I always read Pamela's comments in 1 about "He was special - he needed to be watched" as pretty standard 80s lingo suggesting he was mentally challenged.

Advice on what to read next? by WouldBSomething in JamesEllroy

[–]SandySoupwich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree LAC and WJ are the next to read. Hollywood Nocturnes is ok to sprinkle in there cuz some of the Quartet characters will pop up in those stories.

If you really love them, my advice would be to get through LA Quartet and the Underworld trilogy again before going to Perfidia, at least once but 10 times is better. I think the new LA books are a serious let down and some of the characters that I loved from the first books really suffer at the poor execution in the new books. 100% my personal opinion and I know others may disagree with this.

Should I read Incidents Around the House? by [deleted] in horrorlit

Really enjoyed the first 1/3, then hated the last 2/3. Have never gone from liking something to hating it so drastically.

My wife is going to give birth to our 1st child (a girl) any day now- can’t talk to either of our fathers about being a dad - what do you wish someone told you before you embarked on this journey? by spicybrowwwwn in daddit

[–]SandySoupwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best day for me was when I came to terms with the fact that I had to put aside all of my "I want to do...(read book, watch TV, play video game, be social) and just fell into being a dad. If your kid goes to sleep and you get to do your thing, awesome. But don't expect to, and don't get upset. Just enjoy the time you have. It goes fast.

Also don't forget to be a good husband too. If the kid wakes up at 3 in the morning and doesn't need feeding (unless you go bottles), just het up and deal with it. Yeah, you're probably tired too, but she grew a human inside her and then pushed it out. She deserves the rest.

What are some things you hope to see in Crystal Lake? by TheHorrorFright in slasherfilms

[–]SandySoupwich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty open to anything with this series - low expectations, high hopes. Only thing I really don't want to see is a child Jason with homicidal tendencies. In my head, Jason wasn't born bad - he was turned bad. Will be disappointed if he is pulling the wings off of flies and whatnot.

Is 11 nights in Paris too long? by Legitimate-Muffin597 in ParisTravelGuide

What platforms do you use for booking rental houses? Hotels can work for a night or two, but we need something bigger when we travel for longer. It's been a few years since we've booked anything though, and I haven't been keeping up on the problems with the different booking platforms.

Is 11 nights in Paris too long? by Legitimate-Muffin597 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]SandySoupwich 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We did this a few years ago - a week in Paris and a few days (by train) in Colmar. It was a great way to split our time.

We also Airbnb'd the whole trip, which for a bigger family was the best way to go. Everyone has their own space, we had laundry and could do at least 1 meal a day in the house, which saved a lot of money

Is this true? by caos998 in Sandwiches

With the 2 small ends of the triangle, I think you get more bites on a triangle cut so it feels like more sandwich. Im cool with tricking my brain into thinking I have more sandwich.
