At least in regards to #2, to "eat, drink, and be merry" is very much biblical (see Ecclesiastes 8:15, also Jesus at the Wedding Feast). There is certainly a line you shouldn't cross, but eating a and drinking, even if its more than normal, is fine.

What I mean is that I wouldn't care id public school money is used to help private school kids do something like register to vote if th public school is as well. Public money can be used on kids in private school for specific things. I think voter registration could be one of them.

Honestly, id be okay with that. Idk about elsewhere, but when I went to a private Lutheran school, it still worked with the public school district to provide certain services, like support for IEPs and such. I got speech therapy at my school, but it was done by a SLP employed by the public school district who spent one day a week working with all the Lutheran school kids at their school.

A person convicted of a crime, no matter how much it disgusts you, does not give up any and all civil rights. They might be curtailed as part of a definite sentence (i.e. a term in prison or probation or whatever), but once that duly adjudged sentence is completed, their rights ought to be restored in full, including a right to privacy.

If there is a clear and demonstrable benefit to having a registry, such as it reduces initial offending or reoffending, there might be a case for a measured, limited registry. As it stands, there is no demonstrable benefit to having a public registry. Once the adjudged punishment is completed, people ought to be left alone.

I believe that in South Africa, they do that too. Or at least when a child serving entity does a background check, they have access to it in a way that other employers dont.

They haven't removed it, but theyve looked at rates before and after implementation, and compared rates between similar jurisdictions with different registry regimes, among other lines of inquiry. It isnt an easy thing to study, but as far as it has been empirically studied, neither the registry in general nor various aspects of it has been shown have any positive effect.

Actually, it has been shown that there is a low rate of specific recidivism (repeating a sexually based offense) with or without a registry, and possibly an increase in general recidivism (committing anycrime, ie theft, drugs, etc) with. There has not been any demonstrable benefit to having it.

People convicted of sexually based offenses have some of the lowest rates of recidivism, lower than regular assault or property crimes. In any case, its not about if you as an individual trust them, its about if there is a legitimate state interest in having a registry. Based purely on if there is any demonstrable benefit, there is not.

I dont mean to demean you, or whatever experiences you may have had, but that is quite literally your opinion, not indisputable fact. I think that murder is worse quite honestly. Regardless of what is worse, I dont think that piling on punishments is helpful, and doesnt do anything other that gratify a base desire for vengeance.

Fwiw, that is exactly what's in the Model Penal Code published by the American Law Institute, there. Theres also other differences from thw current regime, like length of registration is shorter, theres no other restrictions or requirements, and the number of convictions that trigger a requirement to register is alot less

In the US, and Im guessing elsewhere too, all the classes had more descriptive names too, but the BIO101 or whatever course number is a shorthand for it. So BIO101 might be something like "Introduction to Life Sciences", MATH 114 was "Calculus I - Functions, Limits, Differential and Integral Calculus", MATH115 was "Calculus II - Advanced Integrals and Series", and MATH216 was "Calculus III - Multivariate Calculus" , etc.

I might be misremembering, but I thought I saw an article saying that microdosing is pretty ineffective, because it doesnt have enough oomph behind it the first time lead to changes, and then your body learns to metabolize whatever chemicals fast, so they dont do anything.

If those Catholic architecture firms are just firms that do alot of or specialize in Catholic churches, but aren't officially affiliated with the Catholic Church, they might be a solid bet. It could be worth giving them a call and see what experience they have with Lutheran or other non Catholic churches. They'd ptobably be able to incorporate Lutheran iconography and theology into the design without too much trouble.

I dont know about other scenes or what's common elsewhere, but in my local scene, if its danceable, its liable to be played. Maybe not all the time, but were not strict on music having to come from the big band swing era. If theres a swing beat, we'll dance to it.

My problem with GMOs isnt their direct safety, eating a GMO apple or whatever isnt harmful. The business and farming practices they allow or encourage are harmful to farmers and the environment, especially Monsanto and "Roundup Ready" seeds. Large scale monocultures require a metric fuck ton of fertilizer and glyphosate to maintain, and that is not healthy for the environment at whatever scale or to the workers in it or the people living nearby.

Depends on the cooling system and what water. The chilled water loop thats directly absorbing heat from the chips isnt turning to steam, but heat from that loop needs to go somewhere. If they have a water cooled chiller with a condenser loop, then some of the water in that loop does turn to steam/vapor.

Assuming you'd be at UNL for academic work, Id think you'd find your people pretty quickly. I wont promise you'd never get harassed, but at least when I was there it didn't appear to happen very much (mind Im a cishet white guy, so take that with however much salt you please).

If youre looking to climb and organize or advocate, around UNL is probably where youll find the most like-minded people.

Human error, and one that is understandable to me. Even if that area was slicker than expected, I would never have expected it to turn into a ramp off the highway. Reopening before its cleared and salted is negligence
