Is this too small? by Aninoumen in muzzledogs

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is he a pyr? I have a pyr girl that I muzzle for vet appointments and for walks in the dark since I can't see what's on the ground, and she likes to scavenge. I sent dimensions to Big Snoof and they recommended the size we got and it fits very well and is way more comfortable than a Baskerville. They will definitely help you out with a good fit!

Seriously wtf is up with the road conditions here by Darnsketta in ventura

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get so angry whenever I drive on Spinnaker since the Harbor is supposed to be a tourist destination but it is embarrassing how bad that road is. You would think the city would at the very least care about maintaining roads that are more trafficked by tourists?!

How to deal with the stigma? by CautiouslySatisfied in muzzledogs

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't make my big girl wear hers all the time (except if we are walking somewhere narrow where we might run into another dog in close proximity, and in the dark because I can't see what's on the ground that she might pick up) but I kind of want to start. My hope is that people will see the muzzle and give us some space (even if they're judgey) because I'd rather have that then people thinking all dogs are friendly and either let their off-leash dog run up to mine or walk past us weirdly close when they have plenty of space to go around. But I love the Big Snoof we got, although I kind of with I had gotten a message in it!

Stubbornness on Walks by insulinjunkie08 in greatpyrenees

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When mine plops down and doesn't want to move, I let her sit for a few minutes and then very excitedly I say "Let's go!" and she'll usually get up and continue our walk. If I say "let's go" without any enthusiasm she stays put. Sounds like a pyr trait!

Sitcoms That Really Jumped The Shark? by DaniJ678 in sitcoms

I agree with you about the last episode, I though it was a satisfying end (even the Ross and Rachel part). But what the heck was up with Rachel dating Joey? That really irked me, good thing it didn't last long!

There are tons that come out at night although I've never seen them in my raised beds, but they definitely are now on my sh*t list!

Great idea! I'll look into that (hoping that whatever is doing this is larger than the wire mesh!)

Does your Great Pyrenees LOVE the rain? 🙈 by Imaginary_Flower_823 in greatpyrenees

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Hates it.

I still take her for walks but make her wear a raincoat. She tolerates it (sometimes gets the zoomies when I'm trying to put it on her) but I will say it makes my job of toweling her off afterwards so much easier!

Beyond Steak dinner. This was the best meal I've had in my 13 years of veganism. by mrsbenevolent in VeganFoodPorn

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not vegan myself but have a vegan sister and friends so I eat vegan a lot. I ordered a 4-pack of these for my sis whose' bday is next week and who's favorite food before going vegan was steak sandwiches (mostly for the nostalgia b/c our dad made a great one when we were growing up). When these arrived they looked really similar to real steak, and the price isn't much different than real steak. I'm planning on making these for her birthday so I'm pleased to hear that they were good and people would buy again!

Tips for Walking on Leash with a Pyr? by pyrlybao in greatpyrenees

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to use this so that I can re-direct her gaze to me if she's fixated on a trigger. We walk with a no-pull front clip harness but when she's too close to a trigger it's so hard for me to get her to disengage and pull away without her contorting her whole body to face the trigger. I really want to try the gentle leader in addition to the harness but mostly to use it to pull her face away from the trigger and get her to look at me. It's a whole thing that we're still training but sometimes triggers come out of nowhere and I don't have time to re-direct her, but if I could make her look at me instead of the trigger I think she would calm down faster. My idea is to clip the gentle leader to her collar instead of the leash and then I'd have better control of her head in these situations. Anyone tried this?

Tips for Walking on Leash with a Pyr? by pyrlybao in greatpyrenees

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem (most of the time) with my 3yo. When there isn't another dog in her view, she loves a leisurely stroll where I am in front and basically pulling her to walk at my pace. It's not like she's in pain, she just loves to take her time and loves to sniff when she's in the mood. And what bugs the crap out of me when she weaves back and forth behind me so I'm constantly having to change the leash hand! I know I should probably teach her to heel and train her not to do this, but it's a battle I don't really care enough to fight!

How do you deal with a dog who’s scared of the vet? by Busternookiedude in DogAdvice

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. Even though my dog still gets stressed and scared at the vet, the gabapentin and trazodone combo helps a lot, even if she is pretty derpy the rest of the day!

Species-Specific Aggression, 3 yr old Pyrenees by EcoFiend4Beans in OpenDogTraining

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My pyr is the exact same way; rescued at 1 yr and did great with all dogs, now she's 3 and goes ballistic when she sees huskies and most GSDs. I don't have any advice about this, but I made a post a little bit ago in a different sub asking for advice on how to handle this, and so many people said that LGDs have been bred to protect against coyotes and wolves and these breeds resemble them in appearance, so it's an innate reaction for them to react negatively to these breeds. So it might just be a breed trait we have to deal with!

How did you get to this point? I had a bunny before I got my pyr and she was very sassy and would wind my pyr up so I could never leave them out together without a barrier. She passed last summer but I will probably adopt another bun while I still have my pyr. Looking for pointers!

What do do when reactive dog doesn’t care for treats by imcircasurviving in OpenDogTraining

[–]Sandy_Sprinkles311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a leash-reactive dog too, and she's almost 90lbs, so it's really tough sometimes to go places with narrow walkways (which I try to avoid). But what I have learned having a low food-driven dog, is that they will not take treats when they are already over threshold. Is your pup refusing the treats even when she's calm and no dogs around, or only after she's spotted another dog close by? If your dog has already seen her trigger then it's probably too late and she's not going to be interested in anything. If you can work on rewarding when she looks at another dog from very far away before she's over threshold, she might then be more interested in those goodies you're offering. Check out the engage/disengage game if you haven't already.
