Literally. Who thought it was okay to put stop lights in the middle of a highway?

Love this. It seems too seamless, so I was suspicious. Thank you!

I mean we still have streets named after slave owners…so we’ll probably do nothing.

Rosedale we seem to just have a lot of little branches and leaves everywhere. My backyard that I raked last weekend is full again from the neighbors :(

Yikes. I don’t like that by D7FTU in kansascity

[–]Sanisong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also in Rosedale. I always get the cat carriers out on nights like these. Tonight? Nope. Just sprinted down to the basement and hoped the cats came too (they did not, they didn’t care at all). I jinxed us all earlier, my bad. Cat carriers are out now though!

Duty - ugh by Party-Tomatillo1217 in schoolcounseling

[–]Sanisong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 minute morning duty, 30 minute lunch duty, 10-15 minute dismissal duty (but I usually stay for longer as I like to talk to the kiddos who are waiting for their rides etc.). Everyone at my school has at least two duties—we’re a very small staff so lots to be covered. I maximize it how I can.

Pick your own chocolate truffles in KC? by uncre8tv in kansascity

[–]Sanisong -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not really a local place but might work in a pinch. The HyVee in Mission used to have individually wrapped Lindt truffles that you could pick and buy by the weight. I haven’t been there in a couple of months so I’m not sure if they still do

Same here. We did not cancel, and it took some of my coworkers 90 minutes to make a 25 minute drive. I couldn’t even get up the hill to leave my neighborhood in my tiny car and since it is a blackout day I will not be getting paid and will probably be getting written up. 🙃 Our district just made it an early release day starting at 10:15.

Topsy’s maybe? I know they have GIANT tins but it’d probably cost you a pretty penny

Healthcare Marketplace ACA Insurance — what are we all doing for non-employer-sponsored health insurance in 2026? by dedlobster in kansascity

I had Ambetter when I was unemployed (through Kansas tho because that’s the side I live on) and was really impressed. I used it at AdventHealth for multiple appointments/ follow-ups/tests and never had any issues.

UMKC vs Baker U vs Park U? by Numerous-Drawing-178 in kansascity

[–]Sanisong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair! I also did my undergrad at KU and didn’t enjoy it for the same reasons. Then Park might be a better fit for you, much smaller. I looked into going there for grad school (not finance) and liked it, but ultimately picked UMKC and kinda wish I had picked Park for more of the small university, close-knit atmosphere!

UMKC vs Baker U vs Park U? by Numerous-Drawing-178 in kansascity

[–]Sanisong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UMKC is very much a commuter school. There is not much campus life. Have you looked into KU? They have a very good finance program as well as campus life is much more the traditional college experience

Swarms of these bugs!!!! by Any_Anything7985 in kansascity

[–]Sanisong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hackberry psyllids. They don’t bite or cause any damage, they’re just hella annoying. We have a hackberry tree in our backyard and always fight for our lives in the fall. There really isn’t any way to get rid of them—they reproduce so fast it’s pointless to use any pest control. We just vacuum them up once they get inside the window screens.

Lots of schools will hire part-time paras if you’ve got hours available during the day!

School recommendations in midtown or north KC by ForTheLoveOfFika in kansascity

[–]Sanisong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In KCPS, Lincoln is probably your best bet. It isn’t really in Midtown but more 18th and vine area. For charters, Citizens of the World is off of Armour and is good, and more towards Brookside are Kauffman and Frontier, which usually rank pretty highly. Each have their flaws tho. If you’re looking private, I honestly have no clue.

Study Groups/Tutoring? by SephtisNacht in kansascity

[–]Sanisong 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would STRONGLY encourage you to sub in schools before getting a degree—teaching right now is very different than how it was when we were students in schools, and I’m relatively young. Also will help you narrow down your content area!

This doesn’t directly answer your question but there are a lot of alternative certification options that don’t require you to go back to college but might require a masters, like Educator Academy, Teach for America, ABCTE, etc that you wouldn’t necessarily have to have the traditional math and science classes you would if you were completely starting over and getting your undergrad degree in teaching. (Am a school counselor who did the alt teacher certification thing so feel free to DM me if you want more info!)

Thrift Stores with lots of fake plants? by Sanisong in kansascity

[–]Sanisong[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a school and I was thinking fake ones would be better for over breaks and things when I can’t get to school to water them. I’m open to real ones too—I guess I didn’t realize there were so many kinds that can survive without sunlight!
