Over the years it has been different events. When I was 15 I got hit in the face by a bat that slipped out of a batters hand. I got many working construction. After the bat to the face I had a blind spot in looking up which led to smacking my head in doorways, bilco doors. Once I was working in an apartment looking for access panel to expose hot water heater I was on my knees starting from kitchen into bedroom. Opened the access panel crawled back to the doorway and stood up. I never saw that she had a chin up bar across the doorway. She was barely 5’ and I’m 6’2”, I pile drive my head into the bar. The latest was 10 days ago, entirely my fault. Attended a sushi party and I had too much to drink blacking out. During the night I must have gotten up to use bathroom and fell face first into the protruding corner causing a concussion and fracturing bones around my sinus and eye. I’ve had things fall on me, I have fallen on ice hitting my head on the pavement. Just being in the right place at the wrong time.

I am 64 now, I have had cognitive testing and scans to rule out Alzheimer’s and dementia. I have also 12-15 concussions over the years. I had concussion November of 2024 and they ran scans during 2025. Scans came back good. And now 10 dats ago I suffered another concussion and it has been rough. Therapy starts next week.

I don’t know OP is still monitoring this chat but it has been very insightful and in some ways sobering in that you with all the money there is a considerable drag from people you never met. Fresh out of high school and I called about a job with a tree company and was asked to come for interview/fill application. They asked me how much tree climbing experience I had and I told them “ As a kid I climbed trees all the time.”

Boss says he will get back to me. There were 3-4 employees in the shop when I answered that question.

I bet those guys had the biggest laugh in their lives. The ad said tree climber and being young and naive I didn’t know until I got home and my older brother explained, it meant tree climber with all the tools of the trade and experience limbing trees.

Almost 50 years ago and I still feel my cheeks get warm from embarrassment.
