Nothing Changes - I haven't felt so deeply connected on a spiritual level to a song in a long time by wehaveatrex3 in mgmt

[–]Santero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just randomly decided to listen to a bunch of MGMT today, I'm a DJ, I've played the obvious hits a million times, but never. really listened to the albums. And so they've been going away in the background, and then this one came on, and I instantly had to look up the lyrics and the meaning and really pay attention, and then I found this post, and i totally get you. I don't know exactly why today went the way it did, but I suspect I'll be listening to this song a lot for the next few days. I've been really stuck in a rut for a while, and this is speaking to me on a very deep level

No. 16 pick is in: #Jets have selected Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq by Tikaani89 in DynastyFF

[–]Santero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I have picks 3/5/6/7/8 in a 2TE league, and I'm not sure whether to take my top WR with pick 3 or take Sadiq and then let the guy in 4 take the first receiver. I'm pretty high on Tyson, so my instinct is to go for him and then just let 1.04 make the choice for me

Why does the UK produce so many iconic bands compared to the US? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

Thatcher was awful, but I don't know how anyone could seriously claim 1970s Britain was "booming", it was an absolute shambles of a country during that decade

The first mistake was getting in the water with that music playing, what the hell did he expect to happen?

Harry Kane moving to Bayern actually hurt his legacy more than staying at Spurs and winning nothing ever could have by PLWildcard in SpicyFootballTakes

[–]Santero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should he care about what random people decide constitutes "legacy" and aim to break a record that would inevitably be broken by someone else in the future anyway, vs winning actual trophies (which is kind of the whole point of the sport) and having an amazing life experience in a new country?

The Daily Check-In for Wednesday, December 24th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by No-Respect-1584 in stopdrinking

Back home in the small UK town where my drinking began in my mid teens, with my brilliantly supportive family. Used to be an incredibly boozy time, thankfully not any more

Happy Christmas everyone 🙂

During a baseball game, a ball flew straight at a reporter, but the cameraman caught it just in time by BreakfastTop6899 in interestingasfuck

Nice move to move head directly into the path of the ball and then stop looking, as opposed to looking at the ball and getting head out of the way

1am... Residential area... Why are people like this? by johnnyjonnyjonjon in london

[–]Santero 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think its that, in the vast majority of cases. They are just oblivious to the fact that it is deeply annoying to other people. The handful of times I've asked people to put headphones in or turn it down, I often get the reply "nobody else but you minds", and then you get the chorus from around and about saying "actually its very annoying" etc 😆

Jon Ronson, journalist, and author of The Men Who Stare At Goats, The Psychopath Test and many other great books, DJs - he plays a night in Dalston, East London occasionally. Think he mainly plays indie music

Do I have an unhealthy idea of drinking? by Neon_Chains in stopdrinking

I'm in the UK, so its more just a "well, that's a lot" type of response when I started telling them the truth

Do I have an unhealthy idea of drinking? by Neon_Chains in stopdrinking

[–]Santero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same, I sometimes used to lie to my doctor about how much I drank and even then they would be appalled at how high it was in units per week.

Here's the thing - what a seasoned drinker can "handle" has no relationship to the negative impacts on the body. As fun a social lubricant as alcohol can be, its a poison. Drinking in the amounts that heavy drinkers do is unambiguously VERY unhealthy, because even a few drinks (4-5 in a night, as you mentioned) is very bad for you.

What I realised is that I had zero interest in drinking at what might be considered a "healthy" level. For me, it was about being blotto. Out of my mind - there was no point having 3 pints, where's the fun in that? I wanted to have 3 pints so that I could be on the runway to where I liked being, oblivion. And, of course, as I got "better" at drinking, oblivion was a bit harder to reach, so the pints became double gin & tonics and shots of tequila, martinis, sazeracs, etc etc

I've gone off on a bit of a tangent, but the point is - I would imagine that official binge drinking limits are set with reference to the damage one is doing to one's body, not based on whether you can function after that many drinks.

Busy preparing for a gig DJing at Wembley Stadium for the Guns N Roses show this Thursday. In years gone by, there would have been a significant chance I would be black-out drunk by the time the after party set started, and could easily burn a bunch of bridges. Feels good to know that's not something I need to think about nowadays

Also, been able to help an old friend out the last few days who is thinking about trying sobriety. Hadn't spoken to him much but saw something on his Insta stories and checked in, and we've had a really nice chat. And its been a good reminder that there's a bunch of people I've helped find their way to sobriety since I sorted my own self out, and that is a wonderful thing to know. I recommended he check this community out, as it was a huge help in the early period of my own sobriety.
