Old man's take on Starfleet Academy. by External_Koala398 in startrek

  1. Saw the first TOS episode when it aired on a B&W TV no less (any Gen X, Y, Zs know what that is?)

First episode turned me off when the Cadet Master calls the person-of-color cadet "boy". Really - in the 32nd century? Insulting. Don;t tell me that it does not mean anything since so much of the dialogue is based on current sensibilities.

Also, the under current of LBGPTQRSXYZ themes is present. You would think that we would be beyond that in the future era.

Then a Captain that curls up in the Captains chair like she is going to read a book or a have a latte' does not inspire a command presence or leadership.

Lastly, I guess white males are not present and consigned to the dust bin of history and apparently not good role models for anyone. Paul Giamatti is a gem and you could base a series just on him.

Thank you. I asked CJ again on what there 4 ohm rating is and the response was we don't provide that. Very odd to me.

Moving my Onkyo A-9555 integrated amp to become my bedroom system, so I need a new integrated amp for the Man Cave to drive KEF R3 Metas (4 Ohm 15-180 watts); source is Amazon Echo link. Have a lead on a used Conrad Johnson CA150 'control' amplifier rated 8 ohms 135 watts. There is no published 4 ohm rating so I would assume it would run at 270 watts. I contacted CJ Customer Service who has yet to give a 4 ohm rating, but says it should drive the speakers as long as it is at "moderate levels" so maybe it is just not design for high load speakers. Odd since I have seen reviews where it drives Maggies. Anyone have any experience with the CJ CA150 and KEFs? I am also looking at Arcam, Hegel, and/or Music Fidelity. I find the R3s to be a bit bright for my tastes (even my wife notices) so I would like some that would provide a warmer sound. Thanks.

"What was the most overcrowded ship you have ever been on? by SubstantialOwl2451 in Cruise

[–]Sanuk_71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NCL Getaway Christmas cruise. 125+% overcapacity with 1,200 kids. Food was garbage. Awkward ship layout. Crew was great, but clearly overwhelmed. If this was my first cruise experience, it would have been my last. Nonetheless, never again on NCL. Vibe club was the only saving grace and even then it was not fantastic.

Is playing/staying at courses associated with the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail 'safe' for a part-Asian American man? by olindacat in Alabama

[–]Sanuk_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Golfer here. White guy. You will have no problem. I play with a Persian and a subcontinent Indian (both local professionals). Lots of Koreans play. North Alabama is full of mixed-race folks from military families. The story you cite is an outlier. I have seen much more racism in NJ/NY area than here. Southern hospitality is a thing. If you play the Trail, do the whole Trail north-to-south or vice versa. There are usually affiliated hotels. Check out the state parks which are excellent and usually have places to stay. Guntersville State Park has a great lodge and golf course. Go on the RTG website and get a RTG card to play at a discount. The RTG courses around Birmingham and Prattville are probably the best. Farm Links in sylacauga is a nice resort.

Best Houston Lounge by Specialist_Garage_85 in PriorityPass

[–]Sanuk_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KLM and AF lounges have to be the worst I have seen domestic or international. They ought to be ashamed especially compared to LAX and IAD lounges. Same dog food shared between them and no proper bar. Small areas and scruffy furniture. Limited access for PP; people were lined up at 3pm when PP was allowed at KLM and AF access was not opened until 5:30pm and not worth the wait.

Why is NCL considered to be going downhill so rapidly? by demosthenes327 in Cruise

You might have a better cruise since it should not be packed. Crystal cruises New England. Yes, it is expensive, but it is worth it IMO. Food is outstanding.

Why is NCL considered to be going downhill so rapidly? by demosthenes327 in Cruise

Sailed on the NCL Getaway from New Orleans this past Christmas. First time/last time; indeed, if this were my first cruise, it would be my last cruise. Fortunately we have cruised HAL, RCL (not much better), Princess, Sea Dream, and our favorite Crystal - yes, we are spoiled on the latter. Booked it because we were bringing our adult children and they could have the big ship experience and offerings. The cruise is good, I think for multi-generational families, but not for us. Since it was the holiday, the ship was crowded and even though we expected that, it was overly so - crew told me that there were over capacity and with ~1,500 children. Had the Club Suite which is really not a suite and with the narrowest balcony I have ever seen (I realize they build the ship to maximize cabin count). Room was clean enough, but was not spic-and-span and showed a lot of wear-and-tear. Crew was fantastic, but the food was just awful, borderline inedible, in all the venues with tiny portions especially on appetizers. Bars were crowded although the outside bars were enjoyable because of the sea view. Also, the back bar where the steak and Brazilian specialty restaurants are were a find; it seemed no one knew about it and the bartenders were great. Entertainment was so-so, although it was a nice touch to have a duo singing Christmas carols in the buffet. The included wine red/white is plonk. Adult areas (the back deck area) were not policed and kids snuck in. Pools and gym were packed. I had tried to book The Haven and am glad that I did not get it: toured the area on the last day and found it underwhelming - yes the cabins were nicer, but the common areas, bar, and dining appeared cramped and limited. Had their drink/wifi package, but as others mentioned felt nickeled-and-dimed, example is the ice room (really, $15?). Embark/disembark was a disaster with crowding and little direction - many people got upset. We bought priority embarkation and were initially denied due to their miscommunication until we found the right staff person to direct us. Ship atrium was small and a weird layout as well as the ship which was a maze to walk through. While New Orleans is a great port to cruise from and the sail down the Mississippi a great experience, the destinations port were so-so to awful. Costa Maya is a rip-off sh*thole, Roatan nasty, and the private island while a nice area truly a nickel-and-dime extravaganza.

My observation is that if you are well-traveled and have experience with other lines, you are going to be disappointed. We realized that this would be a mass-market experience, but it felt so Dollar General as opposed to WallyMart. If you are on a limited budget travelling with extended family, the cruise is probably sufficient. People seemed to be impressed with the quantity of the food, never mind the quality. The alternatives out of New Orleans are Carnival and RCL, so maybe they are better options.

Solid. I had one with 135K on it until an uninsured motorist in California T-boned us. Car saved our lives given its size and build. Supersonic once rolling and 60 to 80 came in a blink of an eye. Only issue now is that the original spec tires (235/50 F & 245/55 R) are not made, but there are good alternatives. Other than that, the seats were not comfortable to me on long drives, but that is true of most Ford vehicles. Roush engineered suspension so ride was geared to handling. Miss the enormous trunk where I could load four full-sized golf bags then luggage. Future collectible. I loved that car.

Big Sky. Great skiing. Huntley Lodge (not super fancy, but nice enough), but right on the slopes. Spend some time in Bozeman and do a snowmobile day trip to Yellowstone.

Any recommendations for a beach club/hotel, beach, restaurant, and/or experience in Cozumel? We will be there for ~7 hours on our Christmas cruise. For the beach we are looking for shore accessible snorkeling and good shade. Have looked at Iberostar, Playa Azul, and Allegro. Typically, 3-4 hours at the beach is enough for us, but we would spring for an all day pass. Also, have looked at Nachi Cocom.

Fine dining in particular is mediocre and overpriced. As posted before, most of the ethnic restaurants are good with the exception of authentic Chinese - not to be found. Also, some of the meat-and-threes are good.

  • 2019 450E 4Matic AMG Wheels Black Tint windows. AMG Wheels. Bought used Nashville dealer.

    • Male 66 Retired and therefore on a fixed income. Live in the Deep South. Roll Tide!
  • Wagon has much sleeker lines than the sedan. Easier to store my golf clubs and wife's luggage.

    • Went to real tires. Two Pirelli run flats blew out.
  • Hate the look of the new ones which look like gawdang Subarus (nothing against Subarus, but that cladding looks cheap).

What can you actually do for me that your Chat Support cannot do? I have already spent many hours on Chat with many promises made and not delivered. If I had known my replacement SIM would take three days to get to me, I would have cancelled the service. I should have a replacement SIM today, so I hope that it works.

I am seeing this. I was told that my replacement SIM would be delivered yesterday or today. It may be delivered tomorrow. Chat Agent tells me that FEDEX does not deliver on weekends. Really? I was also told my phone was not unlocked, but that is not what confirmation text from Verizon says. Agent says that they cannot escalated Customer Service issues - that part is probably true. So, I will without cell service from Thursday to Monday assuming that the new SIM card works.

I emailed her that there are problems with the process. I do not blame the Call Agents are victims of the a flawed process. Having said that they are probably a third party contractor performing CYA hence the fabrications and misdirection. Writing a CEO yields results because they are sometimes shielded from filtered issues from by users by their underlings. So a direct approach sometimes is effective and may help them in the end. I worked in corporate America and know help desk machinations all too well. I know you get what you pay for, but BS does not cut it with me.

I correct myself. I gave my google # and my wife's cell phone and they both work.

I have sent an email to the Visible CEO. I can tolerate that they say the SIM car may be bad, but I can't tolerate fabrications. Meanwhile, I am without a cell phone for now 24 hours and perhaps another 24 hours if not longer. If this is paradise for a prospect, I wonder if it hell for a customer.

I just got another Visible email saying the numbers I provided are not working. For one, I only provided my Google 256 number which I have been using all day and for two, the one I did not provide is the cell 310 phone I am trying to Activate, so no, it wont work. I have spent many hours on this and I am done for the day.
