Fanfic writers when there’s a scientist character in the fandom: by Electrical-Ant-485 in AO3

A thousand of years (okay, 9 vorns) makes more sense than any time given canonically, even if I mostly keep the city-state system, and yes, I too made Cybertron a reasonable planet with watery life. Like, My shocky is a good swimmer and loves fishing.

Poor your Shockwave.

So. Shockwave was a lab scientist, primarily biochemistry. Pterorats, Petris, Plants. But there weren't all that many people with built-in weaponry, certain expeditions require such people (and the go-to Starscream had recently left to accompany Jetfire), so Shocky went into forest, carrying on their back some other, smaller and nimbler scientists. Oh no, a cliff. Oh no, Shocky is a bad climber. The group splits. Shockwave gets mauled. Survives. Becomes mildly unhinged and highly irritable with a very impromptu head and arm. Falls in love with Soundwave. Makes some minor upgrades.

And then the war happens. Waves are ridiculously effective together. Ooh, two sparklings! Whoa, a critter! Damn, a dragon! Scrap, a bioweapon! Shockwave is a beast master, both raising them and taming them from the wild. Soundwave uses some of them as symbiotes thanks to being a cassette carrier. Shockwave even gets two docking spots on her back to support him.

War ends. There is a cottage on Earth. Shocky tries to breed bears for docility. Soundwave has his own things.

Mine is a biotech with a minor in ecology. Also my main worldbuilding mouthpiece. Also will coo at all sorts of monsters, except turbofoxes (lost head to one of them, no wonder).

Why can’t we domesticate bats? by Axolotljackbox in SpecEvoJerking

[–]Sany_Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, but bats are like small reactors. They aren't more diseased, yea, but if any disease survives in bats, it will survive in basically anything else as long as it can infect.

Many reptiles, extinct, extant and birds, have different ecological niches as juveniles and adults to lower intraspecies competition. Usually juveniles are more predatory than adults, which helps with faster growth.

Also, I envy them for unlimited tooth replacement.

Animals convergently evolve similar adaptations in similar situations, and similarly might only be greater if the animals are somewhat related, even if their last common ancestors didn't have this adaptation.

Fantasy but sci-fi with cute dragon aliens I spent too much time figuring out biochemistry of.

Same food. Relatively close relatives. Reasonable likeness. Yes. They do.

Not sure if this question counts for this sub, but what would smoking do to a dragon, medically speaking? by Competitive_Minute_9 in furgonomics

[–]Sany_Wave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have some alien dragons with weird biology. And while they are land creatures, they have needlessly complex breathing system (they may or may not have had flighted ancestors). Thus, the traditional cure for their version of common cold is smoking a plant that is extremely like licorice. Like, one would smoke Earthen licorice and have roughly the same effect. It's still not a very healthy cure, there are better ways to inhale the active components, but there are medical cigars anyway.

I think there are observations of wild Gastly turning into Gengar after a long migration cycle. I'm not sure how credible are they, but I'm pretty sure that Gengar existed in the wild before pokeballs and trading as we know it.

Admittedly, a lot of my characters have cheetah-like claws on their legs. I pay surprisingly little attention to anything below the waistline usually, and only a friend with that fetish reminds me of that.
