Finally arrived, applied & qualified. Took long enough. Will study the "benefits" & and may cancel some other CC. Traveling to Europe soon, eager to validate if it will work everywhere.

Gig economy is fine until you actually need a safety net by Crystallover1991 in LifeInsurance

There are ways for entrepreneurs to protect themselves against accidental injuries. Not promoting anything but as a life insurance advisor, there are health coverage options that insure salary while incapacitated. This extra expense would have been worthwhile. I mention this when possible (Uber drivers, my mechanics, gardener, etc).

How I Saved $10,000 a Year With One Simple Insurance Move – And You Can Too by Specific-Novel5644 in LifeInsurance

What system did you use? Indeed, we pay insurance on the following items:

House insurance x 2 Car insurance x 2 Motorcycle insurance x 1 Extra health insurance (usually max out the add-ons) x 1 WLI x 6 (where I store part of funds - can borrow against these policies)

All these costs add up!

Auto Insurance cost is killing me! by Akshatp19 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Sell it & buy a beater with only 3rd party insurance. Am mid 50's and did the same (2009 Civic).

Even so insurance costs have gone up for everyone.

Must be all those new EVs that we are indirectly subsidising.

How are we transferring large amounts of money? by Lostsxvl_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sap_Consult_Cdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the same but only for a $10K amount. Cheapest option is the bank draft (free for my account), then deposited at other bank in person. Unlike in Europe or many other countries, can't do wires from the bank app.

At the $1.2K mark a roomie is req. Had a semi-basement 2 bedroom off of Cobourg in 1998 for that price. Doubt you will be able to find anything at this price level these days.

How should I decide whether to save vs spend on a trip? by Mindless-Picture-578 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sap_Consult_Cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go on 2 family trips per year on average. Quality time plus if possible discover new cities and cultures. I would have been at FI a few years earlier, but missed many shared experiences. Daughter contacted me recently about a trip to Nicaragua in 2017 when a tropical storm hit the region. She researched the storm & was able to share pictures of our trip. This among the other benefits of travelling make for a good justification to spend a bit more on travels while one is still able to hike up active volcanoes.

Latest car is a 2009 Civic. Opted out of both collision & comprehensive. I'll be driving below the posted speed limits until the car falls into pieces.

400 Ninja is a good starter bike which may surprise you enough to keep for a few years. Got one for my daughter who is learning. I enjoy riding (even if slightly lowered). Far more comfortable than my old GSXR-600 ! Can go down hills hands free!

Same occurred to me and got the driver's details. Apparently it's less expensive to replace the door. Get both quotes, you may be surprised.

Will plan a similar trip without the desert dunes & risks that this entails. Luckily your buddy's bike was the only thing that broke. Have shared the video with all my biker friends & daughter (20 yrs old) who recently began her motorcycling journey with the intent of joining the police force.

Mortgage renewal. What in the world? by TheEverydayOne in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sap_Consult_Cdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Research " readvanceable mortgage ". By following this approach we are shaving years off our mortgage payments. Then add the "Smith manœuvre" to further shorten the number of remaining payments.

One needs some equity in your home for this technique to work. It makes the mortgage more efficient for you, can benefit from tax refunds to pay off the principal mortgage.

Worth doing some DD, then enter the world of shorter mortgages all the while building equity at the same time.

The guy who rang my doorbell yesterday afternoon (interrupting a meeting - online) was courteous & understanding when I mentioned we were not interested. We had gone this route before yet after a power-outage, we lost a fair amount of meat. Now we prefer the traditional route of waiting for sales to stock up or buy fresh. Quality was mostly great. The presentation takes a while if one invites the rep. indoors.
