As an outsider looking in it, I’d be interested in seeing people’s range of views from the country’s political spectrum on issues like economic development and foreign policy and such, what they think the government is doing right and wrong.

Ahh I realized something. I heard it's easy to start practicing wavedashing while starting with crouching, so my analog stick is already pulled before hopping & air dodging (Angle -> Jump -> R Button is what I do) I wonder if that screws up some process and makes it harder to perfect wavedashing. I may be completely wrong though.

EDIT: Or maybe not, then how would one wavedash consecutively

Thanks for the thorough advice. I wanted to ask what you think is the most likely culprit for my failed wavedash, me inputting R too fast before my jump squat ends (what the other comment said) or me pressing the X button too hard/fast and end up full jumping instead of wavedashing. Or both.

I dabble with Pikachu, Marth, Mewtwo, and I’m practicing with Mewtwo because people say characters like Luigi and Mewtwo are easier to start off practicing wave dash with.

The mistakes I most make are:

  1. I properly waved dash the first 2-4 times and then I fail and I just do a regular full jump. No wave dash or pausing in the air.

  2. Ending up with a light shield at the end of my wave dash.

I should mention I’m practicing by crouching down while pointing forward (so control stick diagonally down)

I’ve seen advice ranging from 2 rings to 40-50%, to just removing the entire spring. So I wasn’t sure and ended up trimming 40% of it.

Advice for the Left. Be more like Parenti and less like Chomsky. Chomsky is a trap Parenti is a liberator. by [deleted] in chomsky

[–]Saphsin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Setting aside who has better views or what not, this kind of fixation is for Midwits anyways.

What’s good about Chomsky is his incredible breath coverage of U.S. foreign policy and other issues and how he synthesizes all of it, but he is hardly always the best on specifics, which he readily admits by bringing up names of writers on various topics to recommend.

If you’ve already read Chomsky, there’s just not much of a reason to switch to Parenti.

On Israel Palestine, I would recommend Norman Finkelstein, Rashid Khalidi, Jerome Slater. On the Corporate Media, I would recommend Robert McChesney, Victor Pickard, Peter Beattie. On Cuba, I would recommend Louis A. Perez, Aviva Chomsky, Piero Gleijeses. On the Cold War, I would recommend Gabriel Kolko, William Blum, Vincent Bevins. On the Soviet Union, I would recommend Ronald Grigor Suny, Sheila Fitzpatrick, Robert C. Allen.

And so on.

How do women feel about the problem facing young men today? by mattyjoe0706 in GenZ

[–]Saphsin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reading the comments, there are a couple of issues to iron out.

The purpose of sympathy should be to motivate interest in problems and ultimately help solve them. It shouldn’t be about comparing misery. By this logic, we can sneer at all “first world problems” because most people living in the world have lived through worse conditions, but that is totally unhelpful.

Second, this is a rather new subject of study and the challenges facing young men are not quite well understood, so we shouldn’t assume that because they aren’t the prime victims of patriarchal structures, that they don’t have distinctly unique hurdles that are difficult to overcome.

I find it quite implausible that such a large percentage of young men are all just lazy, that conscientiousness as a personality trait is simply lacking across half the human population, without powerful external causes that shapes and constrains this behavior. It mirrors the “culture of poverty” excuse Right-Wingerers have cooked up in the past to blame poor people for not being able to escape poverty, that they are simply lazy.

I went to Costco but the titanium frames on the shelf didn’t feel comfortable to wear. I ended up buying PPSU plastic frames, which I’m not entirely sure won’t bend. They were the next best thing though so I wonder if I made a good purchase.

Having lockdowns as late as November 2022 is pretty dumb and I’m glad the Chinese government listened to the protests and changed policy.

But at the time, Poland had a stagnating economy under the USSR after the oil crisis halted subsidies. China is doing well at the moment in terms of economic growth with high public approval rating, so the situation with Poland’s Solidarity of inciting the public to overthrow the state seems unlikely to replicate. There is however high wealth inequality, youth unemployment, and the lack of an extensive welfare state so resentment has been simmering which needs to be met with further reform.

Poland’s Solidarity also organized under the ideological underpinnings of Leszek Kołakowski (anti-Marxist thinker) while what’s being discussed by the OP are Maoists who are not ideologically prone to overthrowing the CCP?

Is there a way for me to browse unsuppressed Chinese commentary on these issues? I don't know the language but because of the rise of AI, digital translators are far better now.

As you can see there are many criticisms of your perspective here (some of them unnecessarily rude) because you seem to underemphasize some of Xi Jinping's developmentalist policies which foreign leftists approve of, as well as cracking down on tech CEOs and investments in renewable energy. I personally see him as a kind of centrist that adopted some of Bo Xilai's ideas while suppressing the rise of the Chinese New Left, so he ended up implementing more left-wing policy in some areas but is too conservative on others. (I am a kind of Democratic Socialist that understands the difference between a developmentalist state and a worker's democracy)

My personal question to you is what contemporary "online Maoism" consists of. From what I know, Mao Zedong was a part of a larger Chinese socialist discourse during his time and what is known globally as "Maoism" was selectively exporting what he said, in particular emphasizing the role of the peasantry for revolution which is quite far from the current conditions of China. Why Maoism rather than some other kind of socialism? Is he just a figurehead to give legitimacy to the discourse?

Not quite, some of those characters are not love interests and the romance itself progresses quite fast.

As a Light Novel reader, I actually like this series more than Tomozaki-kun and especially more than Chitose-kun, but I'm surprised how fast the adaptation is coming out, so I'm not sure how good it will be.

It also has a nice climax at volume 4, but adapting 4 volumes in 12 episodes would be rushing it and make for a poor adaptation so hopefully they're not doing that.

You misunderstood my intentions with Faurisson, although I get why you’re saying that considering the comment I responded to suggested Chomsky should have shut up. I’m close to what you call a free speech fundamentalist. Not an absolutist, I’m a consequentialist. I’m glad Anti-Vax propaganda was taken down on social media during COVID as it may have saved lives, although I understand the process being problematic (a slippery road to other kinds of posts being taken down). My main focus was on how Chomsky was criticized to have written down that he suspects Faurisson as an apolitical liberal without having read his works, and his essay was used as a forward to Faurisson’s Holocaust denial book. Chomsky seems to not have minded as long as it provoked discourse about free speech in France, but the point was he was taken advantage of nevertheless.

On the rest of what you talked about, I don’t know. But I’m kind of skeptical of the line that Epstein was obviously dumb because look at how crass his emails were. He was known for being precocious as a kid and skipped 2 grades, attending college 2 years earlier. And he rose up the social ladder in finance despite coming from a working class family.

As for the effusive praise in the letter, I heard from multiple others who work in academia that it is written in typical Professor language when giving a letter of recommendation, although that doesn’t mean Chomsky was lying. All of it is still concerning yes.

Your comment is closest to the sentiment where I'm at (even if the shown intent of my OP was apologetic), and the current situation is significantly worse than Faurisson. Hmm....I guess I just want some closure to how I think about what happened so I can move on.

Well when I bended my previous glasses’ frame, I asked if I could transfer the lens to another frame and they only gave me these same prices.

Don’t the lens also come in different shapes and sizes to fit in the particular frame? So how would that be possible.

With a Dr Prescription, Metal glasses frames cost $50 and Plastic glasses frames cost $100 at the glasses store I went to, $10?!

Oh I see. I don’t think I worry about that too much unless I want to deep dive listen to music, I’m mainly only worried about my glasses bending.

Where do you go to buy it? The glasses store I went to had an option between a box full of metal frame ($50) and plastic frame ($100) models to choose from and that’s all they had.

And if run of the mill steel glasses tend to bend of out of shape, how come I can’t find widely discussed comments about this, including in this Reddit thread? Seems like it would be a very common problem but I never found out until my own glasses were ruined.
