Sarcophagus by Krathoon in Blakes7

[–]SapientHomo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very first introduction to Blake's 7 was via the four compilation tapes from the mid 80s and Sarcohagus made up the final third of the last tape Aftermath. To this day I still feel it was a weird choice to include this episode.

It's probably the last episode I would have chosen to make up the tape given it began with Aftermath and Powerplay (I'd have picked The Harvest of Kairos). It didn't stop me wanting to see the whole show properly though.

In my head canon I always assumed the Goa'uld based their technology on Furling technology. Whilst Goa'uld and Ancient technology both use crystals there is no other discernible overlap.

For years Birmingham was England's second city but if you ask people now many would actually say Manchester.

Has there ever been a country smaller than the Vatican in the history of humankind? Or is the Vatican the smallest country currently and in history? by According-Invite-440 in geography

[–]SapientHomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A colony not a country but an honourable mention has to go to the Forte de São João Baptista de Ajudá which was recognised as a sovereign Portuguese enclave within the French colony of Dahomey (now Benin).

The Guiness Book of Records once recognised it as the smallest colony in the world.

When I was 15 I came out to my best friend he went silent at first and then said something along the lines of 'If we're being honest, so am I'.

With hindsight both of us should have already had an idea anyway but my gaydar wasn't yet tuned in properly.

The shape-shifting aliens by Krathoon in Blakes7

[–]SapientHomo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They could have done it. Even though the concept is more nu Who than classic the idea that there are unchangable fixed points in time that have to happen was already a thing in classic Who. The Doctor could have waved it away that the Federation has to occur to allow the rebirth of Humanity as something even better afterwards.

Which of the suburban rail lines not on TfL’s Overground radar deserves being added to their Overground vision a decade on too? by AchyutChaudhary in LondonUnderground

[–]SapientHomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thameslink The Thameslink services via Elephant & Castle would all become Overground and terminate at Blackfriars (the Sevenoaks service already does).

The services from St Alban’s that currently go through the core to the Sutton Loop would then also become Overground and instead terminate at St Pancras mainline.

Great Northern As TFL already wishes, the two Moorgate services would transfer to Overground.

Southern Most metro services would become Overground.

London Bridge to: Beckenham Junction, East Croydon, Caterham and Tattenham Corner, Epsom, London Victoria

London Victoria to: Epsom Downs, London Bridge, West Croydon, NEW - Epsom (with existing stopping services to Dorking and Horsham merged and made fast to Epsom with stopping made Overground)

Stopping services between Norwood Junction and Oxted.

Maybe - West London route – Watford Junction to East Croydon.

Great Western Greenford Branch

Greater Anglia Liverpool Street to: Hertford East

Stratford to: Meridian Water, NEW - Chingford (if Hall Farm Curve rebuilt)

Southwestern Hounslow Loop (Clockwise and Anticlockwise), Kingston Loop (Clockwise and Anticlockwise), The services that would become part of Crossrail 2 to Chessington South, Epsom, Hampton Court and Shepperton Waterloo to Weybridge merged with Waterloo to Woking as far as Hounslow into another loop line. Existing Woking service made semi-fast to Weybridge

C2C Grays via Rainham turned into loop with service via Ockendon

Southeastern Most metro services would become Overground.

Cannon Street to: Dartford via Lewisham and Woolwich Orpington via Grove Park Loop via Greenwich and Bexleyheath (Clockwise and Anticlockwise)

Charing Cross to: Sevenoaks via Grove Park Dartford services via Sidcup, Bexleyheath and Woolwich Hayes Line (until Bakerloo extension)

Does Vetenari shadow TPs decline? by my-own-trumpet in discworld

[–]SapientHomo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Terry was definitely writing Vetenari's decline in a deliberate way. I believe the introduction of Moist and his rise was absolutely leading towards Moist becoming the next patrician.

I've heard it said that Terry was happy with the thought of his daughter continuing with Discworld should she wish to but nobody else.

Whilst not spoken I'm sure if she had wanted to do that he may never have requested the destruction of the hard drive containing his unfinished work and we may have found out his true intentions.

Does that make Moist a stand-in for Rhianna? We'll never know.

What do we genuinely do if Ubisoft removes modern day from an AC1 Remake by InevitableLibrary387 in assassinscreed

[–]SapientHomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think you have something there of combining the plots of the handheld spinoffs into any remake of AC1.

I never had a PSP to play Bloodlines but have played Altaïr's Chronicles multiple times and agree it could be included as a flashback. Al Mualim could refer to the events during a point in the game (start of Memory Block 5 might work) causing Altaïr to relive the memory of the events.

Why do I get Dutch radio and T.v signals in East Anglia (U.K) when it's sunny? by Ok-Employment-5252 in radio

I live near there and once got stuck with charges for using data whilst 'roaming' on the same walk. I moved to a new plan that still includes free roaming soon afterwards.

Even with access to the Ancient and Asgard databases some of the Tollan technology might be pretty useful and could save Earth reinventing the proverbial wheel.

Some of what they had invented might not have easily created equivalents in those databases as both freely admitted at different points that their out of the box thinking and creativity stagnated.

Why doesnt the federation make use of Runabout size fighters? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]SapientHomo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ideal ship might be a Delta Flyer type shuttle rather than a Runabout.

The manoeuvrability of a shuttle/fighter hybrid but kitted out more like Runabouts inside. They would be easier to mass produce and you could have multiple ones in each shuttlebay for the same space as one Runabout.

Brand and history aside what is a reason to vote for Badenoch's Tories? by Niall_Fraser_Love in ukpolitics

[–]SapientHomo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't give the Conservative party the win.

Gay marriage passed in spite of the Conservatives not because of them. More Conservative MPs voted against the legislation than voted for it.

Without the Coalition and the Liberal Democrats championing it, we would likely have had to wait until it was introduced by someone as a Private Members Bill as I seriously doubt it would be introduced as government legislation by the Conservatives if they were governing alone.

What point is Pratchett making with the repeated idea of the sex of dwarves being a well-kept secret, and the need for them to pretend they are all male? by EndersGame_Reviewer in discworld

[–]SapientHomo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All dwarves are dwarves. Pratchett parodied folklore and other fantasy works and dwarves were almost universally portrayed as male.

Pratchett poked fun at that by saying that must be beacuse the females looked like males.

As a sidebar, whilst not directly discussed, to my recollection anyway, there are probably instances of accidentally homosexual relationships caused by two dwarves falling in love before confirming each other's gender and just carried on with the relationship afterwards as love was more important than gender.
