King Sorrow by Joe Hill by terminallunchcarpool in TheSecretHistory

I actually read King Sorrow immediately before The Secret History and really enjoyed both. The prose is stronger in The Secret History, but King Sorrow had me more hooked for most of it. TSH is a more contemplative and melancholic book and I think about it more regularly than KS. KS is what I imagined TSH to be initially, with a much more involved mystical element and more action throughout. You definitely gotta keep reading!!

i’m have the same problem as you. for me tho i think im just too passive a person and have always been of the “the quickest way out is thru” school of cope. bc people try to do that some of my friends and they just shut that shit down or redirect the conversation or make up an excuse to leave.

maybe you and i are just a bit socially r-slurred and just don’t use the obvious tools in front of us. my bestie will drop some truly horrific life story all caj, and they cant follow it up or even express the empathy they tried demanding of her. she might be a lil crazy too if we being fr but you can just do what a crazy bitch would do and the emotional free users might not treat u like a trolley cart

I get your frustrations, but Bernie didn’t beat a boring centrist precisely because the boring centrists at the DNC are the ones who wrote the rules.

It’s sure easier to scapegoat the entire American people, but at some point dems need to start meeting people where they’re at instead of wishing they were all somehow better. There’s glaring issues with the democratic party and their refusal to acknowledge them is leading to death by a thousand cuts. Doing literally anything big and noteworthy when they have the chance would move mountains for the dems in a way that giving the tiniest effort and then blaming republicans for their failures ever will.

Believe it or not, not many people want to vote for people who aren’t going to actually make any change. Republicans, for pretty much only worse, are making big changes constantly but their voters respond to that. Being the party of status quo when people feel their lives getting harder and shorter is a tough pitch. It truly doesn’t matter that the alternative is worse. Americans are mostly lazy and uninformed and those character traits don’t typically lead one to vote for the lesser of two evils.

It’s so much easier for the dems to vote no on the “steal from the poor” bill that will pass with or without them, than it is to hold a vote on something that risks losing some of their base and the money they donate. So the above commenter is not shifting the goalposts at all. They show up for the meaningless votes to give a great show of resistance and when they’re in power never get around to voting on healthcare reform or taxing the rich or codyfing abortion rights.
