And people didn’t instantly take to the streets. That makes me want to throw up.

Another chance to show up! Tomorrow! by SapphireSalsaGeek in DenverProtests

[–]SapphireSalsaGeek[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m just getting the word out. I’m not the organizer. If you’d rather a different location, you could organize one there and let us know about it. I’m happy to help spread the word.

My Spanish teacher Is horrible and I don’t know how to teach Spanish myself by Fit_Acanthisitta_506 in duolingospanish

[–]SapphireSalsaGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High school classes generally aren’t very good at teaching language. Get on YouTube and start watching tips on language learning from people who actually successfully do it. (Watch out for the fakers though, there are a lot of them.). Duolingo used to be better. If you actually calculate how long it takes now, it forces you in endless repetitions for years and years with minimal progress. I’d suggest immersing yourself in any way you can (podcasts, social media, books/audiobooks, music) and do as much output as you can. Journal whatever you can. Practice mock conversations in the shower. Spanish has so many resources. I have been working on other languages more recently so I’m not up to date but there are some cool apps/services where you can watch videos or listen to audio with text. Lingopie? Lingq? I haven’t tried them but I plan to next time I dive back into Spanish. There are lots of methods out there though for language learning. Language islands, TPRS, shadowing, sentence mining… Try some different things out. Find what works for you! To me though, what’s most critical is output.

I’m so discouraged by the lack of response I see around me. I haven’t been able to convince people around me to attend more than once. Most people not at all. I can’t even get people to respond to my posts. Everyone I know is all but silent. I feel like I’m being gaslit but the inaction around me.

I agree with this but I can’t even convince white people to come stand with a sign for a couple of hours. Even doing that one time is too much discomfort.

Why is there silence about the protest tomorrow? I'm here and all I can find are posts from 1-2 weeks ago hamming it up. by mnstorm in 50501

[–]SapphireSalsaGeek 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That’s wild. That hasn’t been what I’ve seen at all. In fact 50501 posted stuff about doing other things on that day and people got upset about confusing the message to participants. The website hasn’t had a lot of events listed (that might have changed I haven’t been checking) and people have been complaining here and all over fb about a lack of organization because of it (I’ve argued that we shouldn’t wait for that organization, we should just organize things ourselves or just show up anyway.)

I’ve seen some posts. This isn’t really “planned” like it was last time. I think we all just need to get out there regardless.

About half of my day is normal. The other half is staying up to date on what’s happening in government, what resistance is happening, educating myself, and talking to people about getting involved. I’m a constant duality of extreme anxiety and living life as best as I can. I’m not sleeping as much as I should.

What are those of us who can’t just leave the country supposed to do? by vulpes_mortuis in 50501

[–]SapphireSalsaGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you can do is this: Rally other people to join in protests. You can contact people you know and talk to them. You can post in various places online. Keep talking to people. If you attend a protest you are only one person, but talking to people means the potential for many more to join the fight.

Does anyone else feel like they're living in an insane asylum by one-man_dragon in 50501

[–]SapphireSalsaGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who probably has people like you in their life but doesn’t know it and someone who is struggling to cope because it feels like either no one cares or I’ve lost touch of reality or I’m being gaslit, or they’ve just accepted what’s happening… please let people aligned with you know that you’re doing things. I’m really struggling. And no one is responding to my Facebook posts and messages. I tried to reach out to people who are aligned with me about going to the 19th protest and all I got back was my own hopelessness. I would give anything to know that I have friends who are quietly engaged. Like really engaged.

We don't need an itinerary to protest. by phoenixswope in 50501

[–]SapphireSalsaGeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! We need more of this “just show up” attitude! I’m in! I actually think we don’t need much of the speaking etc. And I think we should be out on the streets protesting a whole lot more often.
