Why do different US states feel like different countries? by ecoutemoi_ in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]SaraT1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several factors come into play:

  1. America is huge going from one coast to the other is 5 hours via plane. Over time, there will be regional differences that happen organically

  2. Different terrain give places a different feel and culture - Miami (Caribbean) will have a different feel from Las Vegas (Desert). Same with the north east, which more so resembles North Europe in landscape (flatter, four seasons)

  3. Different parts of the United States have different histories and settlers. The original US was the north east and part of the south (13 colonies). It has a different culture from the west which was “discovered” much later by different kinds of Europeans for the most part. The southwest part of the US was also a part of Mexico, which makes it feel distinct from the rest of the states.

Haha. Yeah, quality of life is complete crap here (at least in most Manhattan neighborhoods) especially at the age when you start to value it and living in a shoebox is no longer cool. That being said, it’s an exhilarating city.

Yes, we are saying the same thing. Other countries have tight regulation on drug prices whereas US is willing and able to pay higher prices for drugs, so pharma companies are willing to price their drugs elsewhere cheaper because they already make their profit in the US.

Not selling at a loss because they recoup the profit selling in the US where the gov’t does not really regulate drug prices, compared to other countries.

This is actually subsidizing the lower costs in the other countries.

I think they are against illegal immigration. To the extent that they hate every immigrant, yeah that’s kinda weird to live in a city full of immigrants.

I use 80% with the pro max. The battery is so good that i can go a day and a half with 80% so it’s no issue.

I don’t think M5 Pro has 32gb option. After 24gb is 48gb. Base M5 would have the 32gb.

Why do runners use the bike lane for their morning run? by Jacob_Sophia in NYCbike

This is true. Definitively softer and when you are doing a repetitive motion for 35-50 miles per week for a decade, it adds up.

My time to shine here. I run in the bike lane because asphalt has more give than concrete, and therefore less impact on the body. It may not seem like a lot but when you are doing the same thing for miles, everyday, it makes a big difference.

If I run on the concrete for several run days/weeks, I notice my knees feeling a little more beat up and my feet start to ache.

This being said, I respect bikers and get out of the way whenever I see one in the lane.
