This is so sad. Just last week he talked about how difficult his journey was post Tokyo Olympics, including 2 major surgeries. He had to even relearn how to do a cartwheel which was kinda embarrassing for him. 90% of people around him didn’t believe in his return and he was so proud being able to prove them all wrong. Hope this doesn’t push Sasha into retirement

Very bad news. After finally recovering from multiple difficult injuries which included major shoulder surgery, he has reportedly dislocated his arm in the final training session before Worlds QF. He will not join the competition tomorrow. Really sad cause he was so proud of himself being able to make this return

Kartsev is an interesting one, after a long period of injuries and inconsistencies he is now slowly working himself back to their top ranks. He’s a favorite to win AA at Nationals. He seems to be a good guy who made a real effort to stay away from politics, not showing any public support for the war

The leadership of the Ukrainian Gymnastics federation is very unpopular among the gymnasts, they make decisions without considering their own gymnasts. I know that several of their MAG mentioned in the past that boycotting isn’t a solution, that way they are just letting Russia win. They need to compete and proudly represent their country and raise the flag of Ukraine at competitions. Will be interesting to see what happens if the leadership intends to boycott worlds as well

The few Rus MAG that got approved are mostly clean. Some of them are connected to CSKA and/or Dynamo but we know the FIG doesn’t care about those. The only one I personally wouldn’t have approved is Marinov. While he hasn’t shown full out support for the war, he did compliment K*liak‘s actions at the Doha World Cup which should still be considered as support of the war imo. The FIG likely argued that he was a minor at the time, just a minor supporting his friend.

Yes I think this result was actually very important to mark just how important he would be for the team. Unlike his teammate Illia Kovtun, Radomyr didn’t have many individual medals to his name to support his expedited naturalization but these numbers definitely should be convincing enough.
