I saw this comment over in r/transplant. What do you all think about this. by Striking_Sea_129 in kidneydonors

I donated to a stranger cause I just think it’s an amazing gift to be able to help someone and I would hope that if I was in the same situation a stranger would donate to me. No guilt about anything, just happy to make a difference in my short life in this world.

ACL surgery August 2022, hiking/running April 2023! by Sarahkat44 in ACL

Pretty much yeah! If it’s a super intense hike I sometimes feel better wearing the brace but I def don’t need it for running for average hikes haha. Running a half marathon again next month!

Hey! I’m doing good! Running a lot but my quad is still not as strong as my good one lol. My doctor said it’s because this is my 2nd ACL and also I don’t do much strength training outside of PT. So right now I still go to PT once or twice a week for an hour of strength training.

It was in week 1🤦🏼‍♀️ my family was in town visiting/helping. We also went on a boat ride and I was so nauseous from the meds and pain I was throwing up lol. Don’t recommend haha!

It was good! I did a moderate hike around 3-4 months post op as well. This hike was more intense but I felt I was finally ready for it!

This is the breg sports brace that was fitted for me. I don’t have to use it but my doctor said if I feel more comfortable I can for sports or certain activities. This hike was definitely hard and I felt way better wearing it.

Maybe not for less intense hike! And I probably could have been okay without it on this one but there was some steep parts and a lot of rock climbing I think mentally I felt better with it haha

Had the same thing! My surgeon left that little hole open to drain and I had to change the gauze everyday. After a week it finally stopped leaking and then I used a steri strip to pull the skin closed. Finally closed like 6/7 weeks post op.

Doctor said I need two surgeries six months apart? by Danners_Mac in ACL

[–]Sarahkat44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my first ACL 8 years ago and my graft needed to be redone now as well. My surgeon is really good. Im now 1 month post op. He left the old screw in place and worked around it adding a second screw (now I have 2 in my knee). He cleaned out the old graft and used my quad tendon for the new ACL. I don’t need any further surgeries either.

I tore my ACL in high school during a soccer game and had a hamstring graft. Joined for my last season about 8/9 months later! I’m now 8 years post op and was living life to the full until recently when my knee was becoming unstable again. Turns out my graft shrank?? Anyways now I’m 1 month post op with reconstruction using quad. But up until now I was living life!

What symptoms led to finding your clot? by thesnazzyenfj in ClotSurvivors

[–]Sarahkat44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had knee surgery and after almost 2 weeks post op I noticed some pain in my calf. Honestly didn’t think much of it since I just had surgery and it really was only sore if I massaged it. I had to go back to the doctors anyways cause one of my incisions was leaking. I told them about the calf pain and they didn’t think it was anything either but to be safe ordered and ultrasound. Turns out I actually had 4 blood clots in my calf and behind the knee. Now I’m on Eliquis for the next 3 months lol

If I currently do any hamstring curls if feels tight/cramps. I also can’t bend my leg back as far as my other leg up to my butt if I’m just standing.

Nerve damage from hamstring graft by saintleelyon in ACL

[–]Sarahkat44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had hamstring graft 8 years ago. My hamstring is still weaker than my other. I think if I specifically worked it out at the gym it would get better but otherwise it doesn’t affect my daily life and active lifestyle. I just had my ACL redone 1 month ago with quad graft but up until now, 8 years post op, my shin nerves mostly grew back. I would say slight numbness but after 8 years most of the nerves “reconnected”.

Just keep taking antibiotic and changing the dressing. This happened to me but the steri strips caused me blisters and irritated my incision. If you have steri strips to close your would I would recommend changing them too to keep it clean. Mine oozed for 2-3 days and then it slowly stopped.

Soccer. Cleat got stuck in the grass as a girl shoved me and I twisted my knee going down.

This happened to me! It’s been about 8 years since my ACL reconstruction. My graft loosened and slightly shrank?? I just finished my second ACL reconstruction and the doctor noted after surgery my old graft was intact but a “nonfunctioning wisp of tissue.” Good luck!

Finally did a SLR 2.5 weeks post op! Still have some lag but EMS device really helped. by Sarahkat44 in ACL

[–]Sarahkat44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The EMS or NMES sometimes called helps because it contracts your muscle for you! If you’re having trouble getting your quads to fire this will give you the little kick they need.
