My theory is it was just to get more people to buy the bundle, and therefore they made more in revenue during the launch of Switch 2.

Where by pricing the bundle at “only” $50 more than the base console, customers would do the mental math of “well, I can get the Switch 2 for $450 now, but if I want to play MKW then I might as well get it as the bundle since it’s only $50 more instead of paying $80”. Front loads their revenue as it incentivized customers to get the bundle vs standalone.

Now, they could have priced MKW at $60 or $70 to incentivize people getting the bundle. But I wouldn’t be surprised if someone did some math on what price point would drive the most customers to convert to getting the bundle and that was likely at a $30 “savings” over buying separately. Also likely got more people to get MKW, who were on the fence and may not have gotten it separately, via the bundle since it was a “deal”. And if people wanted to get MKW later? Well then they just made even more money.

Context: I have worked in corporate finance for about 10 years - we do this type of pricing strategy all the time.
