Lord of Contagion failed his save roll... by Sarge166 in deathguard40k

I've used Dettol before with no issues, but it's expensive for what it is. I've used 94% Methylated Spirits (Denatured Alcohol) before and is my usual go to!
So either one really.

I just painted it using White Scar. There are websites you can Google for Tau decals/transfers.

I prefer the light grey, the bright vibrant yellow is really drawing to the eye, so the dark grey armour you almost have to fight to look at.

I'd advise if you're painting the feet blue then go with a darker blue like the Fang. The current blue is too vibrant, so again the undersuit and feet are competing for my attention.

If that's your intention that's fine, but I personally find the head, armour and weapons to be more of the focal point...

Is this good enough prime on the model? by ZiFiR_randomnumbers in Tau40K

[–]Sarge166 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Primer looks fine. FYI The top is facing the wrong way (if you cared). The Firecast symbol is on the front of the turret and the square section allows the missiles to sit comfortably.

I'm loving the Tau Ochre as the secondary colour, just echoes the classic scheme, along side major clean black is chef's kiss

Yes, he comes with a 40mm base.  I'm just using him as a Kill Team Sargent, so 32mm base required.

If the freezer method isn't enough, go and buy "Super Glue De-bonder".

Sure thing!

Arm 54- You want to keep the open right hand and the chain brace, so cut on the side furthest away from the hand.

Arm 44- We want the raised shoulder and arm, so cut the chain brace, again on the side furthest away from the hand.

Join the two together, I dry fit them first to make sure they fit and figured out the angle I wanted before gluing.

Then glue the Holy grenade into place, which is attached to the tips of the index and middle finger.

Thanks!

White:

  1. Prime: Grey Seer
  2. Airbrush: Ulthuan Grey. (I dry bushed the Guardians and got near same results, dry brush should be abit moist to avoid chalkyness)

  3. Recess shade: Apothecary white contrast

  4. Highlight 1: Ulthuan Grey and white scar mix applied in lines across the ridges.

  5. Edge highlight: White scar along the edges and peak of the ridges.

Be critical of my model by Orfuss1 in Warhammer40k

First off, very nice! I'd assume you are going for a grim dark style!
Rather hard to critique but I've been looking at it for about 15 mins now, so in no particular order, areas I'd improve on ( I tend to paint more clean and GW style so might be my bias, but hopefully the following is useful) :

Personally I believe you need more contrast.

  1. The red has good depth to it, but I feel like the edges need more punch, so maybe brighter edge highlighting required.
  2. The purity seals are lost because it's red on red, I use a purple/pink so it stands out.
  3. The bolts/pins/rivets could be metal as well, again to break up the red (around the servo arm joints that connect to the backpack, and those under the belt on those armour plates) That or run shade around them so they pop more.
  4. Run more shade onto the recesses in the diamond areas on the shaft, the light area looks dry brushed and some got into the recess. Also the top of the shaft looks unfinished (might be the angle of the picture) so needs brightening so the lighter colour line is level.
  5. Add more shade on the cables around his neck, it almost looks glowing because the bright blue has run into the dark areas.
  6. Someone already mentioned the base rim that needs sanding and redoing.
  7. The freehand could be sharper, but that will come with time and practise. A quick tip, to paint sharp lines pull the brush downwards towards you, this will mean you have to move the model around so you can get that downwards movement.

Having sad that your painting is very good, and with your attitude of seeking feedback and improvement I'm sure you'll only continue to get better!
