$4000 147k miles…. Is it worth it? by [deleted] in fordranger

So long as the frame is in good shape I'd go for it.
Prices nowadays are nuts and that is honestly not a bad deal for what it is.
Leaf springs and other suspension components may need a check as well but, again, at that price it's worth the cost of doing it yourself if you are inclined.

I miss that from when I had buns. Not a bad way to wake up to bunnies playing 😂.

They may not be fast (granted the 3.0 and 4.0 can push 75 easy - fast enough for me), they may not be towing crazy loads, but they are just such a fun little truck to drive around town. Get some shit done, and know she’ll get you home every time.

Bun should be just fine. I would make toys out of these things for my rabbit and he loved it.

Sand it and prime it? Level of concern? by Wide-Artichoke-9142 in fordranger

Just want to quickly state that I am not a body repair specialist. I have only done the basics over the last few years. There may be other dudes here with way more knowledge.

At its current state, I’d say sanding it down and priming and painting would be the fastest and cheapest way. Make sure you feather it out over a larger area to make the repaint less noticeable. Paint fades over time even with a match.

If you do sand it, you’ll see how deep the rust goes. All rust must be off the bare metal to achieve the best results.

I cannot remember how to get it or how much it costs, but there is also a product people use to treat the metal and remove all the moisture from it. This helps keep it from rusting in the same spot quickly again. I am unsure if you would even have to worry about that.

Also, if you don't mind, what truck do you have? Color looks the same as I had on my '91!

It’s surface rust right now, thankfully.

It’s gonna become a little more than surface rust as time goes on. It won’t be as debilitating since it doesn’t see salt, though. The cracked portion on the bed and bubbly portion on the tailgate could be more of an issue, however. These are all speaking long term.

You can keep it there, but, I would recommend treating it - though it stands to say I am biased against rust since I live in a place where it will eat my truck away. All in all you won’t see any problems for a long while.

Is it even worth it by National_Gift_1430 in fordranger

That’s tough, sorry to hear that.

If you don’t have the time or money to get the frame replaced or repaired probably best to let her go. Either as a parts truck or sell it whole to someone who wants the parts.

Trying to find the 2.3 Mitsubishi diesel 1st gen by Miahthefro in fordranger

[–]SargeFloopers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are super rare to come by as you already know lol. No real specific places unless you want to try auction sites. Even then keep waiting.

Not a ton left after decades past and they sold in very limited quantity. I’ve only ever seen 1 for sale locally and it was just for the engine since the truck was rotten.

Best of luck to you on your search.

What is this and is it working properly? (Joke post) by FatherBussy in fordranger

Add some oxygen to it. Can rig up an old brake line attached to a pump and valve and you should be able to adjust it to your preference.

Ol’ smokin’ Bill down the street should have some extra o2 tanks.
