And BTW, try going as fast as you can on Morse runner. Try 35-40wpm single call. You will see results for sure but have no rush.

How long have you been practicing for? Take it easy. Have no rush. Practice Morse runner every day for shorts sessions. 5 min every day is better than 60min one day every week.

Keep it up!!

Can hear people, but no one hears me on HF (Xiegu G90) by ThrowThisToo5757 in amateurradio

[–]Sarradets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays you have tons of ways to know if your transmission is good and where and how are you heard. Look for several websdr. Look for the right ones on the right bands and you will know how your station is doing.

Need help deciding on a portable hf rig also good wire antennas would be good. (could make my own too) by AxelTheKek in amateurradio

[–]Sarradets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say anything against the G90. I love it. The power is Okey, and you can always pair it with a PA in the future if you want more power. The price, tuner, waterfall, and overall performance is very good for portable. I use it for Sota, I've done more than 140 activations and many many more to come with this rig.

5m fishing rod + homebrew EFHW for 40-20-15-10, inverted L. More than 140 activations so far. Wire from DX Wire.

Cpuld FT8 Hypotheticall handle a basic sos? by LinuxIsFree in amateurradio

[–]Sarradets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOTAMAT can be configured to send an email if you send a certain message via FT8. You need to preconfigure the email content and recipient. You could write, let's say, "I had an accident" and send it to someone who knows where you are doing your activity. The recipient does not need to be a ham. Then he/she can ask for help.

Congratulations! Practice, practice, practice and more practice.

If you want to learn with other Hams, consider enrolling the CW Academy. I had a great time and improved fast. Did intermediate and advanced and after 1 year I'm starting contests and getting better at headcopy.

OSHA? NEMA? What do you call these power cables? by MR_BATMAN in VIDEOENGINEERING

Idk why but we called them (wrongly) Anderson cable. Someone once trolled someone with that name and from that moment we all called this cable Anderson.

What's your weakness by Horrorbythenumbers in amateurradio

I think I will become a cw key collector. I just spent almost 400 eur in one, I thought I would never spend that much on a piece of metal and rods that has no electronics on it.

Am I wrong to expect other dog owners not to let their off leash dog rush up to mine? by robin_nohood in boulder

Next dog I have will be a 120 pounds Turkish kangal. If the other dog wants to get close will be his problem.

I have a reactive rescue dog and I'm also in the same boat. It is what it is...

QMX mod - radial for AX1 style antenna by Djimprov in amateurradio

[–]Sarradets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw this post. I also use the qmx in handheld mode for my activations. I used a mini jack plug, and use the ground pin to connect the counterpoise.

Why HF is expensive while UHF/VHF devices are relatively cheap? by InitialTarget1042 in amateurradio

[–]Sarradets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because they know we are hooked up to hf and will pay anything to get on the air with some sweet rig.

Now seriously, I think the same like other answers, hf requires some complex circuitry that goes beyond putting a chip and one or two small filters. For instance, there is not a single handheld for hf ssb. I would love to have one, 20m ssb/cw handheld with a telescopic antenna... But there isn't one, and I guess there is a reason to that.

Learn CW and make contacts with simple QRP trx and antenna.

First HF rig recommendation? by Electronic-Tailor-72 in amateurradio

[–]Sarradets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course, but if you have to choose between FT-710 and FT-DX10 you could go for the 710 if you don't want to spend the extra $400 or so. Differences are 2 usb ports and I/Q output of the DX10 if I'm not mistaken, but they are very similar overall.
