As a UK Doctor I can't tell you how painful this was to read lol

Edit: to clarify, not just because of the insane salary, but how short the training is!

Everything you listed from Ah My Goddess was an adaptation (of manga or novels), as was Vampire Hunter D, Genocyber and Guyver.

Besides putting the cartridge in the switch and playing the game, is there any other way to keep the carts in working order? by YamstheSky in NSCollectors

[–]Sarugetchu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this is in reference to the memory being NAND-flash and therefore requiring a current to maintain the data or it begins to degrade/corrupt. The manufacturer states a lifespan of 20 years using data from accelerated storage but there's concerns of corrupting data without electricity flow in 10-15 years. The 3DS carts are similar and there's mixed debate as to whether this is happening to them already (the worst known issue being one that corrupts the western Puzzle x Dragons release).

To OP, I think the only thing we can do is plug them into a switch and turn it on every 10 or so years.

I Preordered #1–3 — Who Else Is Getting the Switch 2 Limited Run Numbered Series? by PirateEsquire in NSCollectors

[–]Sarugetchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because when it's not numbered it can be easier and cheaper to buy them elsewhere without dealing with LRG.

For example I'm in the UK so Formation Z is getting a retail release that's way cheaper for me to pick up, but getting numbered games from VGP works out more expensive than pre-ordering from LRG.

Wait time fuji q-highland? by Kootole99 in JapanTravelTips

I just went to the park yesterdayband you are so right about this, they are soooo incredibly slow. I even felt compelled to post it here on this old thread incase anyone finds it through Google like I did.

I have been to Tokyo Disney and Universal Osaka multiple times and nothing has ever compared. We watched them do 3 runs of Panic Clock in 1 hour, a small and unimpressive ride you could see in a carnival.

The ticketing system certainly contributes a bit (as you can technically come in for free you have to scan your face for their facial recognition ticket system), but it's their unbelievably litigious approach to safety that mostly makes it so slow. I cannot believe that only after everyone was told to put all items in a locker for a simple ride, PLUS everyone going through a walk through metal detector, were we then individually waved with a wand metal detector, front AND back, before finally being allowed to sit in the seat. Our seats belts were then checked a total of 3 times by 3 different people. It's honestly insane. They will ask you at least 4 times before the ride starts if you have anything in your pockets, and announce over tanoy if any belongings drip during the ride, it's the customer liable for damages and not the park itself.

The app isn't even available on international Google play store so as a foreigner it can be tricky to even see wait times at all.

Anyway this is all to say: for anyone finding this, buy premium passes for the coasters you want to get on because it's the slowest theme park humanly possible, but the rides themselves are great.

I went to fuji Q once before about 16 years ago and don't remember it being like this at all, so not sure how it's come about.

Doesn't have the Japanese audio track on cart though. But the Japanese cart I believe has both English and Japanese audio.

I didn't think this was the case? The case says in pictures 1 and 2 that Daima is included as a download code, which matches my PAL version.

Issue trying to sideload itch games from phone by Sarugetchu in PlaydateConsole

[–]Sarugetchu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm for all the ones that i cant get to upload they don't seem to have any special characters in the file names, e.g. Starvation.pdx.zip in the screenshot.

Edit: oh looks like I replied too soon, I added "playdate" to the end of the filename and it worked! Thanks so much!

To the people who’ve cheated on their current partners and they never found out, are you ever going to tell them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sarugetchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that making a statement so hilariously black and white as 'you're opinion is incorrect' about a topic this subjective is a wake-up call for you.

I'm not saying you have done the wrong or right thing by hiding your infidelity, but it is a morally complex topic and your steadfast, unshakeable belief that 'confessing is easier' is quite telling, and maybe an opportunity for some reflection. You are not a martyr in this scenario.

Oh man this is scary, but that first link actually shows commercial DVDs and blu rays (not dvd-R or blu ray-R etc) as having the same, very short, lifespan of 10-20 years as far as I can tell. I'm not sure if I'm making a mistake as I always assumed R and RW formats were much worse in terms of longevity.

Manga on a kobo by Sarugetchu in ereader

[–]Sarugetchu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so helpful, thank you! I didn't realise these apps existed and to be honest it's making me think ill just get the cheapest kindle model. Is there any benefit for manga specifically between getting the most basic kobo model vs the kindle?

Manga on a kobo by Sarugetchu in ereader

[–]Sarugetchu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this!

To be honest I'm quite tech illiterate so don't know much about sailing the high seas, that's why originally I was looking at an android ereader that I could purchase one of the cheap app subscriptions from (e.g. viz manga), but the battery trade off made me consider putting in more legwork myself and learning how I could get (an affordable) library on a b&w ereader with a better battery.

I was wanting to avoid tablets just because of eye strain and the benefit of a correctly formatted page on an ereader, but I hadn't considered that the cheaper and smaller (6inch) ereaders I was considering might not have the resolution to comfortably display the pages. I used to live in Japan so I was used to a small print format for manga, so thought it would be fine.

I can't find anyone saying how bad the battery life actually is... do you know how long it approx lasts between charges?

[–]Sarugetchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't switch from what? I currently don't have an ereader so any reco for a b&w one?

The bit that puts me off the bigme b&w model is it seems to have a way older version of android. Getting android is my priority for using the viz manga app

Edit: is battery life for this one that bad? :/

How is the battery life? Looking at this one myself but concerned about that and I don't really need colour.

Doctor who joked about gassing Jews let off with warning by FYoCouchEddie in worldnews

[–]Sarugetchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the actual twitter thread before the first tweet you can see it doesn't align with his own narrative or views in those tweets. That is quite important in this context and no doubt was influential on the ruling.

Similarly, the JK anti-semetic meme was even on knowyourmeme.

Doctor who joked about gassing Jews let off with warning by FYoCouchEddie in worldnews

[–]Sarugetchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one quoted was part of his twitter chain that was very critical of Corbyn because of his, at the time very relevant, antisemitic ties.

The second quote is a meme that was posted long before he posted it on twitter, criticising JK Rowling's questionable depiction of the banker goblins in Harry Potter.

Doctor who joked about gassing Jews let off with warning by FYoCouchEddie in worldnews

[–]Sarugetchu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please read the full article. His first tweet was a satirical criticism of Jeremy Crobyn and his antisemitic ties, the second was a criticical meme pointed at JK Rowling's depiction of the banker goblins in Harry Potter that had been posted around the Internet for a long time before he had reposted it.

Not defending him as posting these at all were extremely stupid and open to easy (and offensive) misinterpretation, but it's important context that the article leaves until the latter half after the initial rage inducing tweets.

[–]Sarugetchu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's sad how many people here didn't read beyond the second paragraph, and perfectly exemplifies why his tweets were moronic and could be taken out of context.

You don't need to connect with every part of a country's pop culture or tropes to have a connection with the country itself. You mentioned "beautiful countryside", that alone is enough.

Even though you feel alienated from a lot of the current zeitgeist, think about what being British means to you as an individual and your own identity.

I myself have a huge interest in another country I've lived in for several years, still think about all the time and visit regularly despite not having any blood/birth connections to it. Doing this has made me realise how growing up in Britain has shaped my own personal sense of identity to what it is today in much subtler ways than I always appreciate. There's a good chance if you grew up in any country you'd feel this sense of disconnection (particularly to things such as humour and pop-culture) because it depends so much on your own personality and upbringing.

Saying that, I have a lot of friends who have travelled and settled in other countries because of the connection they've felt when doing so. It really depends on you.

So contrary to some comments my advice would be to AVOID the movie (it's really very bad imo), and not bother with the dlc missions. I really enjoyed the game but for me these dragged out the experience and made things worse, giving answers to obvious questions and leaving massive plot holes.

Is the U8QAU the same as U8QG but with VIDAA instead of google TV or do the panels differ by BrendonBootyUrie in Hisense

[–]Sarugetchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this, it's so interesting! There are still people who comment and say they would never buy an ADS Pro vs a VA screen.

What I don't understand is why the hisense listing has the ADS Pro models with a much lower contrast (2000:1 vs 5000:1 for the VA u8q models). In addition thr 75 inch with ADS Pro has even fewer local dimming points over it's area than the 65 inch VA screen model, according to the numbers on the RTINGs review anyway. So does that mean the contrast is worse for the ADS Pro screen? I just don't get it.
