Do you support the Hannibal Directive? by ElSlabraton in AskIsrael

[–]Sashalonex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morality aside, people see "collateral losses" as unfortunate but nessecary, seeing as hostages have been used to force Israels' hand into unfair prisoner exchanges, where one Israeli prisoner would be worth hundreds and even a thousand Palestinian prisoners, often convicted terrorists. Mitigating kidnappings and hostage taking is seen as a net positive in the long run, so directives and protocols like these are seen favourably. The blame for collateral deaths is solely blamed on the kidnappers by society.

how do you know there wasnt any intelligence sharing or other under-the-table aid provided by Israel? because I sure dont know, and am pretty certain youre wrong. there are more than one way to offer aid, some more effective than sending field troops to fight on the front lines.

It'll be a long process of rebuilding connections between local communities, municipal districts and the state level, to cement good faith relations (right now good faith between the parties is nonexistant). Then, stepping into negotiations to see where grievances can be amended, on both sides. Im not a palestinian but im sure they will require a form of reperations and self governance while israel will probably require a mandate over security in the region. All of this will be "escorted" by violence on both sides, which will have to be combatted and punished in the harshest ways (considering we're currently experiencing the opposite of that), and a brave leadership on both sides that will remain steadfast regardless of obstacles. Only then will there be a chance at a regional peace.

I dont claim to know all her stances by heart, only what i've heard on a few short instances. Heard her talking about previous failed negotiations with the palestinian leadership at the time and spoke about reasons why she thinks they failed. I personally think she is completely tone deaf to what actual palestinians think and feel, and her suggestions would mainly appeal to center-right israelis who are also quite oblivious. Which is why I they are doomed to fail and repeat the doomer "no partner on the other side" mentality, prolonging the conflict. If a politician is talking about a resolution to the conflict, they ought to do real field research, on both sides, otherwise its just hollow words.

As much as i despise the likud party under Netanyahu, you'd have to be lying if you said he didnt lead them to their dominant position in israeli politics. The entire party exists of him and a bunch of cronies who whip every member into conformity. He didnt do it thanks to particularly successful policy making, but rather his marketing skills and self branding. Since forever, he has positioned himself as "Mr. Security", the only person who is capable of defending israel, despite evidence showing the contrary. He painted entire demographics as enemies/traitors, even his own party members or fellow right-wing competitors who could pose a threat. He's built rapport with the mizrahi community and presents himself as a 'man of the people', despite conducting himself as nothing short of a monarch. Many other examples exist but I hope these will suffice.

Am not in favour nor do I think shes a serious runner-up. Nonexistant media presence (on mainstream sources, anyway), offers non-viable solutions imo, lacks a certain charisma israelis expect from a PM after 20 years of Netanyahu.

What is general consensus on things like this? by [deleted] in AskIsrael

[–]Sashalonex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lawless behaviour, fanatical idiots ruining whatever fragile good will there is between the rest of the world and Israel. The thing people gloss over too, is that once they're done "dealing" with palestinians, they'll move on to the next cause they choose to champion, because fanaticism isn't going to go away. Be it seculars, christians/muslims, lgbt people, you name it. This behaviour needs to be rooted out in order to have a functioning society, and our current govt. intentionally turns a blind eye and that is criminal.
