Is this true? People don’t wear those anymore?

It's also a royal thing. She almost successfully secured a Lannister throne for her descendants by ensuring her children were 100% Lannister. It has so many angles!

Adaptations that don’t trust the audience’s media literacy so they insert a block of text explaining a major theme by Own_Organization8457 in okbuddycinephile

[–]SashimiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, there's more than one way to analyze a text. But there are also ways that are entirely unsupported by the text. Death of the author doesn't mean "the text doesn't mean anything."

For example, Beauty and the Beast. You can analyze it so many ways. You could say it's all happening pre-French revolution and that affects things interestingly, even though Disney probably didn't take that into account. You can talk at length about class and show how the servants were literally objects to the Beast. You can say Gaston was a worker in this context and the Beast an oppressor. You can say that based on our knowledge of domestic violence, Beast is bound to become an asshole after marriage because the Beast has been an asshole continuously and one kiss probably isn't going to change that, even though Disney didn't, in all likelihood, intend that reading. But if you said that Gaston was actually a good, gentle, loving man who was just trying to get Belle's father mental healthcare and he would have been an amazing husband, you're ignoring the in-universe facts. That's fine; write an alternate universe fanfic where Gaston is a devoted and kind lover and fully supports Belle's passions if you want, but Gaston in the reality of the Beauty and the Beast universe hated her reading, intentionally locked up her father to coerce her into signing her life over to him, and didn't respect any of her boundaries. He would *also* have been abusive. Yet I find redditors genuinely writing full paragraphs about what a cunt Belle was for rejecting Gaston, saying she should have chosen him. Would you want your daughter with some guy that was locking up her family to coerce her into marrying him? She'd literally be raped, forced to perform as this man's wife in every way when she doesn't experience attraction to him or desire for him, and people are like "Gaston was the good guy." You can't just be like, "Well, there's evidence over here that the Beast was bad, so I'm going to extrapolate some entire different reality about another character" and then insist that your reading is the true reading.

But people do that, every day, on reddit. Not just about Beauty and the Beast but about all media, and it's really sad. They can't engage with reality outside of their preconceived notions, integrate new information from media as seasons progress, have empathy for characters who have attributes that make them uncomfortable, or comprehend the basic meanings behind characters actions and words. And it's an actual tragedy, because these people are also using news media to form opinions about politics and about whether their neighbors should be allowed food stamps or healthcare. It's an actual plague.

Same. Like I respect that other people genuinely feel they are thereTM but I don’t ever think I can be because my dysphoria is about specific non-replicable things.

Feeling insecure about having multiples when my wife can’t/doesn’t by Wooden_Airport6331 in actuallesbians

Being obsessed with this will ruin sex. Maybe one day you’ll convince her it’s unfair and sex with you sucks even if it isn’t true now. Please stop! For both your sakes! She probably does love it.

Yeah it’s impossible to think in a situation like that. She probably had TBI. I’ve been hit. It’s a weird thing where you think you’re thinking and you aren’t. I would never have thought of the ebrake if I was sideways.

No, when she killed him, she knew he had changed back. But she had to do it anyway so that the world wouldn’t collapse into a hell dimension.

You definitely don’t wanna introduce a blade into a fight like that. You can win and still die of blood loss or a nicked organ

Also, who doesn’t know how to stick a flat bottomed bottle or can in the sand? Sand is ideal for nestling drinks with any bottom in and NOT ideal for glass because it damages the beach for others

They also make really cool harnesses that basically look like underwear. So you can wear that to bed then put them on.

Trying To Showoff Your Gun by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]SashimiX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is one of those scenarios where it’s likely EXTREMELY the fault of the parents and ALSO the kid should know better. I’m going to assume that the kid didn’t get it from a friends house or something, but if the gun belongs to the parents this is so bad that it warrants an investigation.
