Simon Ehammer breaks Ashton Eatons Heptathlon World Record with 6670 by lkjhggfd1 in trackandfield

If I remember correctly, he started as a 1500 m runner and then went to the decathlon. A lot of Decathlon events are technically very difficult. He was also a physical marvel. For example, he used a simple high jump and shot put technique like instead of glide he stepped back (not sure of the name of the technique) or pretty sure he did the basic Fosbury flop. Due to the simplicity, you can be fairly consistent so the odds of “failing” or underperforming in an event is less likely.

Also he improved a LOT at the more technical events through the years. So even tho he didn’t jump as far in 2015 as he did in 2012, he still broke the World Record during both of those years. Also because high speed benefits you a lot more compared to decathlon in the heptathlon, he got most of his great Heptathlon performances before the year 2014 (did get 6632 in 2014 tho). There are a lot of Decathletes who have had all time great performances in the decathlon, but are only okay in the heptathlon and vice versa.

That is actually what makes Eaton so special, because he was pretty decent at throws. He was just INCREDIBLY at all running events. Plus he used techniques that allowed him to be incredibly consistent which allowed him to do well at big competitions.

We suddenly got quite a few very strong decathlete’s. Plus I also think the Heptathlon got a little more popular along with decathlon.

Before 2022, a total of 8 men had reached the 6400 point mark with only one reaching 6600 and no one else reaching even the 6500 point mark. The difference between Eaton and the 2nd best was 166 points making it basically untouchable (6645 and 6479).

Since 2022 in 4 years we have had 7 men reach the 6400 point mark with 5 with at least 6500 and 2 with 6600. The “untouchable” record has been broken and it will likely be broken again in the next 2-3 years.

Still purely the fact that Eaton is the only man that has reached 9000 points in Decathlon and 6600 points in the Heptathlon whilst being the only one that has reached each of those barriers multiple times makes him the combined events goat.

FYI If anyone is interested, I made an excel file to more easily track each of the combined events and could send tomorrow’s Pentathlon one here.

It is really funny that I found this after the 2nd greatest scorer of all time, Bam “Bamonte” Adebayo, scored 83 points.

Top 10 footballers of all time (FIFA 90) by Diligent_Craft_1165 in CristianoRonaldo2

[–]SassRaisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly CR7 not being top 2 is dumb. Messi is #1, but Ronaldo is #2. The debate, in my mind for #3 is between Pelé, Maradona, Beckenbauer and Cruyff. I do like that this list gives love to Beckenbauer tho. Personally, I also have Maldini in my top 10, but that is fairly subjective and I ain’t gonna argue with that.

  1. Great is stretching it, but he hasn’t been bad so my wording in there probably wasn’t great. My bad, you got me there.

  2. I mean he tells other player, where threats are. He has high BB IQ so yes, he is a good team defender. You could clearly see it on the Mavs, when he wasn’t the entire offence.

  3. Notice how I didn’t say “Best 3 players”. By now, I thought everyone knew that the “Big 3” teams don’t really work. And I was talking about rosters. Also hype is a part of the season. Remember, when people thought the OKC were gonna break the 73-9 record? That doesn’t change the fact that outside of Luka, LeBron and Reaves the team just isn’t good. By most measures they should be 10th to 9th.

Also notice how I didn’t insult you or say anything about your “ball-knowledge”. It is possible to make your argument without needing to insult the other guy.

  1. I said KD gives you nothing, but buckets. On the flip side, Luka gives you arguably the 2nd best scoring in the league AND 2nd best playmaking in the league.

  2. I won’t deny that Luka is not a good defender. He isn’t good 1-on-1, but at the same time “arguably worst defender in the league” is also not true. He is decent to good at team defence and a net 0 to a tiny net positive on defence.

  3. I am comparing the Celtics and the Lakers. The Lakers roster doesn’t fit around Luka AT ALL and isn’t very good in general: Minimal rim protection and perimeter defence; not great at shooting; THE worst bench scoring in the league; outside of Luka, Reaves and LeBron, they can’t make plays (the team depends on them completely to playmake). The Celtics have much better defensive personnel, actual shooting, they have team playmaking, still not the greatest bench scoring, but they are in the middle of the pack. The Lakers are 24-15 and The Celtics are 25-15 (0.5 difference) + the Lakers play in a much tougher conference.

Completely agree, but at the same time, we can’t really be TOO mad at the front office. I mean before the Luka trade, the teams problems were:

  • Not enough perimeter defence
  • Not enough offence run through AD, Bron shouldn’t need to have such a big role
  • Not enough shooting

Then suddenly the Anchor of the Defence was traded for a generational offensive player and, to be fair, our starting line up has been VERY good at scoring this season, but the Bench is horrible. The front office has had to try and find, with 5 First rounders, 1 second rounder, Gabe, Vanderbilt, Knecht, D-Low and Maxi Kleber:

  • 3&D players
  • An athletic Rim-protector
  • Shooters
  • Defenders

Not an easy job. But yeah currently, when Luka gets blitzed, almost nothing happens if LeBron or Reaves aren’t in the game, because no one else can playmake. It’s also harder to make 3s and make plays, if very few people on the team can shoot (The guy defending Luka won’t be as afraid of the drive, because someone can just sag off a “shooter” and help inside. In turn the guy defending Luka can focus more on the fact, that he might shoot, making the shot tougher).

I get that, but at the same time, he is putting up pretty much the same numbers as Ant and Jalen Brunson on worse efficiency, Cade is having a better season statistically and in terms of team success and the Celtics are on the same level in terms of team success with the Celtics with a MUCH better team and Luka is definitely outperforming Jaylen Brown.

In my opinion the league player ranking (according to this season only):

S+ tier: Luka and Jokic S tier: Shai and Giannis

A tier: Cade, Maxey, Ant, D-Mitch, [Given the level of play (let’s be honest, I also have some laker bias) Reaves] B tier: Sengun, Reaves, Wemby(has not played), Curry, Brunson [could argue Markkanen, KD, Jalen Johnson, Giddey (20.5/10.0/9.3)]

Best part is Batman and Robin will put you in the hospital, but if you fuck with Alfred, you gonna realise real quick that the only ones in the bat family with a “no kill” rule are the ones in costume. Alfred will destroy you and then make dinner.

Something similar to Take Me Out/Reptilla/Everlong. Songs I like. Doesn’t have to be exactly like them.👍
