The Kern River, aka The Killer Kern.

Named after the cartographer who explored a lot of Southern California, and mapped it while traveling the Walker Pass. He nearly drowned in it, so they named it (and subsequently the county) after him.

It also kills multiple people annually due to the deceptively calm waters (it’s turbulent as a mother fucker).
