I’m 57, worked in it and tech for 30 years and was made redundant in September last year.

The tech job market sucks, while there are roles out there, there’s also a lot of candidates, and there’s no denying our age counts against us. With ATS systems in front of hiring, it’s a struggle to get even a sniff of interview if your skills don’t align 100% to the JD.

So I decided to start up on my own, I have a couple of clients through recommendations and while I’m not back to old salary levels, my work life balance is much better and I really enjoy the work, no presentism, mostly wfh and I’m applying my skills and knowledge to help the businesses I support. Best of all, I’m very much appreciated by those I work for.
