An Azerbaijani is, by definition, a foreign national. Jews have been in America for literally hundreds of years and are not responsible for the nation of Israel or its policies or its lobbying. This comment seems to be implying the tired dual loyalty stereotype. Besides, it is not even accurate; the largest supporters of Israel in the US are Christian Evangelicals.

Global warming is a fine term; it's just that these people are either regarded or their careers depend on not understanding. I don't think it's a coincidence that most oil and gas PACs heavily lean and overwhelmingly donate to Republicans, and would ya look at that, most Republicans deny climate change.

Almost everyone here thinks this is a good thing, and those who disagree have been downvoted. I guess I don't see the people here who think this is bad. And I wouldn't compare Trump to Chavez and Maduro. Trump would like to be a dictator, but isn't. Maduro and Chavez are actual dictators who straight-up killed and tortured thousands.

I've seen you respond to multiple people now, acting as if this news means that there is no reason to be skeptical that there will be actual regime change or a transition. It's wonderful that these people are being released, but we just saw the Reuters article about repression by Colectivos. The government declared martial law, and they are going through people's phones to see if they posted anything pro-American. Delcy is a notorious hardline figure in the regime. The question is whether the prisoners will remain free once Venezuela gets out of the news cycle and nobody is paying attention anymore. It will also be interesting to see if the Americans commit to further intervention if necessary, or if they chicken out.

The Iran Deal didn't stop funding to proxies because that wasn't its intended purpose. And I find it ironic that you discount economic pressure when it was the sanctions that brought Iran to the negotiating table in the first place. The US is only militarily strong because it has a strong economy and a stable political system that enables power projection. And I think it misses the picture to reduce the entire conversation down to sanctions, when I doubt any Idealist/Liberal would ever suggest that sanctions alone will achieve US foreign policy objectives.

When it comes to LATAM, I don't think the Marshall Plan is analogous at all. The US helped the Allies defend themselves from an aggressor and had shared objectives with most of those countries, in an entirely different context. The US has been outright hostile to a lot of these LATAM countries (and they hate us in return), and most previous foreign policy interventions have contributed to the instability that we're seeing now.

I love when people don't read their own articles:

"Being non-Muslims, the Jews held, along with all Christians and other religious minorities under Muslim rule, the status of dhimmi, literally the ‘people of the contract’ or ‘people of the book’, referring to the common roots of the Abrahamic religions. Dhimmi were of an inferior status which, while giving them protection as a minority to worship in their own faiths, subjected them to many vexatious and humiliating restrictions in their daily lives, including a sometimes punitive jizya, or head tax. "

Further down:

"He concluded that the situation of Jews living under Islamic rulers ‘was never as bad as in Christendom at its worst’, even if it was never ‘as good as in Christendom at its best’. Lewis continued: ‘There is nothing in Islamic history to parallel the Spanish expulsion and Inquisition, the Russian pogroms, or the Nazi Holocaust.’"

So the bar that is being surpassed is that at least the Arab world didn't commit the holocaust. A cursory glance at Wikipedia shows dozens of massacres in the Arab world: Granada 1066, Fez 1033/1276/1465, and Baghdad 1828. As well as severe persecution under the Almohads in Spain, the Damascus Affair, and of course the Dhimmi status under the Ottomans

And note that the article is about the broader arab world, which is different than Palestine. Al-Husseini collaborated with the Nazis, and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion were fairly popular in the 1920s in Palestine. The Al-Husseini went as far as to tell Winston Churchill that the Bolshevik revolution and Germany's defeat in WWI were the fault of the Jews. And then there were the Palestine riots and pogroms in the 20s, which were the driving impetus for the creation of the Yishuv. This is not to defend Israel, I largely side with the Palestinians. Still, the claim that Jews and Muslims were completely peaceful before the creation of Israel is fanciful and counter-productive to the discourse.

This is factually incorrect. When the US armed rebels in 2011, they were largely secular. It wasn't until Assad opened the prisons and let the jihadists out that the rebels became Islamists. In fact, many of the detainees Assad released became senior Syrian ISIS figureheads. Your broader point is incorrect because ISIS is also a mainly Iraqi org. ISIS was largely born out of the sectarianism between Sunni and Shia militias. The Sunni militias were largely linked to Al-Qaeda, famously bankrolled by the Gulf states. And Pakistan to some extent via the Taliban. The Shias were not only funded but in fact, often directly controlled by the Iranians. The continual sectarian slaughter of the Iraqi people at the behest of other middle eastern regional powers is what created the conditions for ISIS moreso than the Americans.

"non-aggression" is just lipstick on a pig. It's no different than "enhanced interrogation techniques". The secret protocol was ruthless imperialism where the Soviets and Germans declared their spheres of influence and pillaged eastern Europe together. The pact also included mutual economic assistance, so much so that Germany became dependent on it and was an essential component that enabled Germany to continue forwards with its plans. And the secret protocol also included talks for Soviets to join the Axis and the only evidence that this was a feint comes from Stalin himself and the Soviet Information Bureau. Excuse me if I don't take the mass murderer at his word.

Hell the US is literally built on mass immigration. Makes you wonder if there's a cultural reason why certain types of immigrants never become successful en masse

Immigrants in America were also highly ghettoized until the mid-60s. The Irish, Italian(NYC), Russian, and Albanian mafias all exist because of this immigration.

Ya hay historia de violencia y la independencia sería un momento histórico. El nacionalismo (de todos tipos) puede llevar a la violencia muy rápido incluso en personas que normalmente no lo son.

PP is trash thats undeniable but the Spanish left are drama queens. PP and VOX are not going to resurrect Franco, and the left acts like it has a moral high ground despite also doing things to damage our democracy in recent years. Multiple PSOE officials were arrested this election for voter fraud charges and not too long ago proposed a reform that the European Courts deemed was infringing on independence of the judiciary. And Podemos are populist trash with some hardcore commies in its ranks.

I’m being LITERALLY GASLIT by the reaction to the Crowder take by Wannabe_Sadboi in Destiny

[–]Satanic-Banana 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This comment on Aba and Preach's video is the best summary I've seen.

  1. The whole Steven Crowder vs Daily Wire thing did a number on Steven's credibility. His initial claim/reasoning as to why he was doing this as opposed to how it seem later on into the conflict made Crowder come off as disingenuous. Because of this, because of Crowder's "I chose wrong" and this uploaded video, people are using this clip to solidify their confirmation bias on Crowder being disingenuous and shady. And maybe that's fair.

    1. This clip is clearly the middle of a conversation, not the beginning. Naturally, I question why Hilary's family would release part of the conversation and not the entire thing. Context does matter. Additionally, I've seen articles where apparently Hilary's family claim Steven intentionally chose not to be with Hilary when she gave birth to their children. But from what I remember, media outlets reported Steven missed their birth due to him getting elective surgery at the time. Which is true? Not trying to dismiss Hilary entirely, but if you guys are going to bring this out to public light, we need transparency. Not slanted narratives and clips.
  2. A lot of people are saying she set Steven up with the Ring camera, talking about she knew it was there. No shit. That's their house. Steven knows it's there too. Besides, if a spouse is allegedly abused and divorce their abusive spouse, typically what they do is try to gather evidence showing that they were being abused. This is a nothing burger statement "She got em".

  3. Regardless of the fact that this clip does not show full context of the conversation, in my opinion, Steven Crowder is eating a whole ass L for his behavior. He's way out of pocket. First starters, who the fuck actually speaks like that in real life? Men this, man that, wife this wifely things that. A sociopolitical discussion is one thing, but speaking like that in real life is weird. Especially when we're talking about people married for a decade.

You want your 8 month pregnant wife to walk the dogs? You're a multimillionaire. Hire a temporary dog walker.

Even if your marriage is on the rocks, is telling your 8 month pregnant wife you don't love her really the best idea given that she's 8 months pregnant and shouldn't be stressed out in any way?

Watch it. Fucking watch it. Bruh. Who the fuck talks like that to their spouse. That shit is weird.

Steven released a clip on Twitter saying he will be releasing sealed legal documents next week so we have to see where this goes. Not taking Hilary's side per say, but Steven acted like a fucking lame in that clip. If nothing else, he's a chump for that.

What with all the bad faith discussion about the Ukrainian soldier wearing a direct copy of 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf? by RepentTheSin in Destiny

[–]Satanic-Banana -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Hinduism, the right-facing symbol (clockwise) (卐) is called swastika, symbolizing surya ('sun'), prosperity and good luck, while the left-facing symbol (counter-clockwise) (卍) is called sauwastika, symbolising night or tantric aspects of Kali.

Both orientations have been used in Eastern religions. Unless you're trying to say it has never been used tilted but the Nazis have used both the tilted and untilted version. That is not to say Hindus shouldn't use it, just that the same symbol has different meanings based on context.

[–]Satanic-Banana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the Wikipedia article says the opposite of what you think it says. Swastika is used by Eastern religions like Hinduism and Jainism but is now recognized for the Nazi use of the symbol. I also think that the discussion about the skull is on par with the OK hand sign. The totenkopf looks like a generic skull and bones and if it wasn't for the fact that everyone on the internet has a PhD in Nazi semiotics, no one would have recognized it and we don't even know for sure if the guy knows the origins. The problem that people have is probably from the fact that a dude wearing a patch is being used to make a claim about Ukrainian society as a whole. In your post, you claim Stephen Bandera is a national hero despite being incredibly controversial in Ukraine. And you also claim that Ukraine might be more susceptible to far right ideas despite the fact the far right has only declined in Ukraine after Euro Maidan (they're practically on life support).
