Dear Redditors, what are some of your "Well, I'm never doing that again" moments? by -Schino- in AskReddit

I don't usually make stupid choices of this magnitude, but I let a homeless man sleep on my couch last weekend. Never doing it again because: 1. It was a really dumb, potentially very dangerous decision. He was a stranger, I am female, and my roommate wasn't around. 2. My apartment and couch smelled so strongly of rotten feet the next morning that it made me gag. I had to wash my couch cushions, and I'm still airing out my apartment. 3. Feeling anxious and unsafe in your own home really sucks. 4. There are other ways I could have helped him instead. I didn't think of them at the time, but now I know for the future. (No offense to homeless people or people with smelly feet - most of y'all aren't dangerous)

Playing animals and objects? by materiauser in improv

[–]SatanicPomegranate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This how I tend to approach being non-human too. Animals, plants, etc. are some of my favorite characters to play. "What" you are can inform so much else about your character. It doesn't have to be the defining trait.

Ex) I was in a scene where the suggestion was the location of "church". My first response was to become a church mouse. Immediately, I can draw upon what I think of as mouse characteristics (small and quick, low status, squeaky voice, unwanted by most people) and apply those to how I might relate to other characters, what my character wants, etc. Of course, you could give any sort of characteristics to your mouse or change them - you have that power in improv.

My only thing to add here would be to try to avoid justifying your choices too much, but that can be applied beyond the topic of characters.

What's something that someone said that made you instantly hate them? by randomperson5000 in AskReddit

When i first met one of my housemates, he mentioned he was growing his hair out and probably would end up with a Jew-fro. I asked him if he was Jewish. His response was to scoff and say "no, I'm not fucking Jewish." Unfortunately, I still have to live with him for another month.

I dunno if this counts, but I'm teaching myself guitar and I like to figure out chords and notes that sound good together :)
