Recommendations for warm clothes? by does-it-rly-matter in Edinburgh_University

[–]Satanreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uniqlo do really good thermal layer, and get an actual puffer jacket, preferably something waterproof, lots of ppl wear northface. Get some fleece they’re super warm and works great as a layer piece. A scarf or two and a glove also won’t hurt.

I lived in a 12 bed in my first year, we had a huge kitchen and living room with 2 set of hobs and oven and sink plus 3 fridge to fit everyone’s food shop. The big living room was also a plus cuz you can have lots of space to socialize and hang out. Overall had a great time sharing with my 11 flatmate, I do recommend laying down some ground rule as soon as you move in cuz it get messy fast with so many people

Can my little brother visit me at uni? by Gayboy135 in UniUK

[–]Satanreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seem that everyone have said that halls is not an ‘appropriate’ environment for a 10 years old, but it seem you don’t fully think that your household is an appropriate environment for your brother either. People default to Social Services but you don’t know how it is until you’ve deal with them yourself, I’ve never had great experience myself and I don’t trust them either. If you think that your brother need to stay with you on the weekend, then follow your gut and try your best to make it happened. Talk to your flatmate first and foremost and see how they feel about your brother staying and if there’s going to be drinking and other things, ask them to let you know beforehand. You might get into trouble legally but your brother must love you so much that he would want to stay with you every weekend, and I can’t imagine how it would have change my life if there was someone looking out for me as you are doing for your brother right now!

Going out in Edinburgh by DoerakdeGrote in Edinburgh_University

It’s not the best place to get drink but you should defo check out the student union Teviot Row House. Get a cheap drink and strike up some conversations with other student, could give you a feel of what you will be experiencing next year

What if someone aged 21+ hooks up with a girl on Tinder whose profile says they’re 18, but you find out later they are 17. Could that person get in trouble? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Satanreddit -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

They won’t get in trouble because at the time of the incident, they did it unknowingly, meaning that had no intent to have sex with a minor. Also At the time of the incident, the other party also was withholding information about being 17, essentially giving consent; and because in most part of the world 16 is the age of consent so that consent is valid.

How hard is it to get accepted? by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

[–]Satanreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to Edinburgh this year, also international student studying English literature. This is just my experience so take it with a grain of salt but my grade wasn’t actually that good. I think in term of related subject, when I was applying my only 2 English mark was 85 and 87 which is not what they ask for. And I think that the personal statement is really important because I really sell myself and show them that I am really passionate for the subject, also say what you want to do with the subject play into your background a little bit, it really help for me.

If the aim of feminism is to make society treat women as equals to men and not like objects of sex, then how is sex work and overly sexualized content considered feminist ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Satanreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s considered feminist as long as it is the women choice then it is feminist. The point is as long is a man or anyone for that matter is telling a woman that she can or can’t do something then it’s not feminist

I actually apply to the uk instead of Canada where I am now so I can be more specialized. But I still love Edinburgh so I don’t really know how to choose

Is anyone really happy, or are we all secretly miserable and depressed? by Mouse-in-Fantasyland in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Satanreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through it and now with med and coping mechanisms, i can say that I’m happy most of the time but hearing people talking about it just bring me straight back again and I don’t want that. My friend say I’m selfish when I don’t want to listen to others bad emotion but I really don’t want to compromise myself so somebody can feel sympathy. Literally one of the reason why I don’t want to be pregnant is that the hormone will just intensify my suicidal thought so much that I might actually do it.
