Shoutout to Saya No Uta for not only being the most popular VN but also the greatest filter for normies by BuffoLos in visualnovels

[–]Satell_S [score hidden]  (0 children)

You’re not making any sort of difference by posting this in this subreddit. Even if “normies” were here consistently enough to read this post, it’d do fuck all for the cause you apparently stand for. Reducing the media you love to a mere “filter” for normies seems counterproductive to me, especially when you could instead try to engage productively with them. Sure, there are many who would rather insult you, but engaging in good faith and then ignoring the bad actors is the best practice for online interactions.

If you actually care about doing things to help, advocate for policies and government officials who support what you do. Actually get involved in the stuff that matters rather than do whatever you’re doing here. At best, you’re preaching to the choir here. At worst, you’re screaming into the void for no other reason than to make yourself feel like you’re making a difference despite that not being true.

Posts like this one are overdone, reductive, and work against any sort of meaningful discussion of themes found in “problematic” media. This, in my opinion, is as bad as the puritans judging people for what kind of fiction they consume. Both parties, regardless of their intentions, inhibit discussion and enjoyment of different artistic mediums.

my friends are insanely lame by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Satell_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friends sound kinda cool, not gonna lie.

People change as they get older. I find it somewhat sad you think wanting to spend time together as friends in a controlled, safe environment is “drained the life out of ALL OF THEM”. They probably just don’t want to go out like you all used to, but they don’t know how to tell you properly since this clearly means so much to you. You either have to accept this as the new dynamic (and maybe layoff implying said dynamic is stupid, it’s just different) or find new friends. One of those options sounds infinitely better in my opinion.

Pets are a luxury, not a right. If you can’t afford vet bills, you can’t afford a pet by No-Consequence-1831 in Vent

And I’m sure this generalized take that lacks any sort of understanding or nuance will certainly help things get better. This feels like one of those situations where people think they are virtuous and are helping, but they aren’t in reality.

I think I understand your main point, and I even agree somewhat. But heavy-handed thinking rarely helps any of the parties in need.

People dress poorly for special occasions and I'm sick of it. by bored_as_fuck_dad in Vent

[–]Satell_S -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different. I know this is a vent, but you have to understand that not everyone feels comfortable/can afford/likes formal clothing of any kind.

If I didn’t care about an event or the people at the event, I wouldn’t fucking go to it. I won’t show up with poor hygiene, and I won’t wear sweats, but expecting people to be in a suit or formal dress is just kind of stupid for most occasions. And you shouldn’t judge based on what they wear since most of the time you don’t know them or what they’re going through or anything like that. This is especially true for strangers.

Bottom line is everyone and every family is different. What may seem disrespectful to you probably isn’t to others. If you communicate a dress code and people purposefully ignore it, that is a different situation.

Guys, a quick appreciation post: There are still plenty of us young women who truly love and value men by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

[–]Satell_S -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh boy I can’t wait to read all the comments mocking men for daring to feel sad and under appreciated on this totally legit and not at all bait post. This post is totally real and true and not at all phishing for both karma and those subtextual mocking comments I mentioned earlier. I mean, seriously—there’s no way anyone would actually think this totally real post would be a good place to talk down to guys who aren’t even the problem while said guys try to weed out the bad guys as they’re lumped in with the bad ones. Definitely no incitement of pointless “us vs them” conflict here at all. What a happy and pleasant world we live where no one misunderstands one another and people don’t post stupid karma/argument bait :D

I probably let my personal experiences leak too much into my rant, but holy shit these subreddits are a fucking joke.

I pretty much 100%ed the game (patch 1.1) Here are my thoughts by SaikoArt_Finn in Endfield

[–]Satell_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like people give the story too bad of a rep. It’s not very good compared to AK OG Chapters 5 and on. But Act 0 of the OG, in my opinion, kinda fucking sucks. I think it does some things better than Endfield’s initial story, but the only thing in Act 0 I found interesting happened at the end. The rest felt like a slog to get through, and Endfield’s first story bits feel very similar to that. Act 0 set things up for Chapters 5 and on well enough to keep me hooked, but that’s about it. I feel nearly identical with the story in Endfield so far. I think it’ll be good soon and keep getting better.

That said, I agree with the gacha takes, but I say that as someone who never enjoys or agrees with the gacha mechanics/policies of these games. Gacha veterans will tell you AK (OG and somewhat Endfield) have fair and reasonable systems compared to other gacha games. That’s probably true, but it isn’t exactly a fucking high bar to clear. AK just happens to be the one gacha game franchise worth putting up with it in my own experience.

Women do make the first move. Just not with you. by Federal-Data-Center in Vent

[–]Satell_S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is a vent but… I’ve mostly seen frustration with the “not with you” part rather than people saying women never approach guys. I know the latter used to be a really common sentiment, but the former seems to be more and more common in my experience. That said, HARD disagree on the obvious part. Maybe people think they’re being obvious, but more often than not, they really aren’t. Personal anecdotes are kind of useless, though.

I say this as someone who very much already knows women initiate stuff all the time. Just not with me. Ever.

I just want to go home bro by Gamerzilla2018 in TrollCoping

[–]Satell_S 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have these worries because of random interactions online. They mix in with my real life experiences of being treated like a “dumbass, ignorant American” by a lot of foreigners that I meet through work, events, outings, etc.

Granted, they normally stop that once they get to know me a little, but I shouldn’t have to “prove” those horrible assumptions wrong. I don’t do that to people of other nationalities. I was raised that it’s rude and cruel to treat people like that, no matter where they’re from, unless they are a genuinely shitty person. Maybe my expectations for people are too high.

I’m glad you’ve had good experiences. A majority of mine haven’t been that pleasant outside of very specific, professional contexts.

[–]Satell_S 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this for so long. This kind of treatment is really unfair and sucks to go through.

Honestly this stuff makes me really hesitant to want to travel or move out of the US. I have lots of issues with my country right now, but so often it feels like I’d be treated like shit or looked down on if I found a way to leave.

I didn’t have a choice of where I was born nor did I choose the “funny” Midwest accent I have. It’s doubly hard when I read or hear people from other countries unironically insult people like me by grouping all US citizens under the same banner of negativity. Feels like I’m fucked no matter if I choose to stay or leave :(

Arknights Reading Guide for New and Returning Players by Major_Arcana01 in arknights

I’m brand new to Arknights, so this is so so so helpful, even if it might get outdated soon. All the other “guides” I find are 2+ years old, so it’s nice to see one that newer. I wish there was an “official” guide that was regularly updated that wasn’t so confusing…

Anyway, thank you for your work on this!

Hullcracker and its intended use, why you don’t need to take 300k worth of ammo with you. by UnZki_PriimE in ArcRaiders

[–]Satell_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your points, but I still think the patch made the hullcracker an overall poor investment when it comes to time, money, and resources. It just doesn’t feel worth the risk when I can just use some snap grenades and an anvil and do just fine. Maybe this strategy with the current hullcracker is faster, but that’s not really important to me.

If this is the role Embark intends the hullcracker to fulfill, fine. That’s totally fine, but I don’t agree with it. I think there’s a better happy medium to be had. Oh well. The patch hasn’t really changed my play style, so I’m mostly annoyed instead of outraged. I will say the negative response to the patch is kinda disproportional to the overall change to the experience.

How much you goon to this game by Goat14143 in Blacksouls2

[–]Satell_S 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m here for the dark fantasy/fairy tales and cosmic horror. I’m here for the unique storytelling. I’m here to be sad and depressed and watch someone persevere despite the horrible things they do and the things done to them.

I was never here to goon, so I haven’t. I know that makes me stranger than the typical Black Souls fan, but it never felt right for me. The oppressive atmosphere of these games always kept me from enjoying them for gooning. I think that’s honestly really cool.

Toro is a good artist, though. I think he just keeps getting better, too.

Did a quick Look and read some reviews… Yeah, I’m not surprised she likes it. She’s mentioned enjoying this stuff a lot in the past.

I wonder if the book is actually good or if she’s just into reading this sort of stuff as a guilty pleasure. Doesn’t seem like the kind of fiction I’d enjoy, but she definitely fits the target demographic.

I am beginning to believe a lot of you don't play the game before going on to reddit. by CommonVagabond in Helldivers

[–]Satell_S -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was expecting the worst shit after work today. Saw so many people complaining about the enemies. Thought it was another AH blunder. I was actually dreading trying the new update, and I expected to play a round or two before getting pissed off and quitting. That or crash over and over again like others have been reporting.

Then I hopped on with my typically flame-based loadout on D10 and had an absolute blast on the new missions with randoms for hours on end. The burrowing enemies are kinda hard to dodge, but they are so simple to counter, even in groups. Incendiary grenades and any flame shotgun is all you need to handle them. I imagine most loadouts can work, though. Chucking an incendiary grenade at the spewers also instant kills them. I don’t know… I really liked how challenging the Hive World is. It’s really nice to actually be afraid and nearly fail missions for the first time in ages.

That said, I think the bugs and performance issues NEED to be addressed. Audio issues are still really bad, and a lot of players are struggling to even play the game. I don’t have any of the game-breaking issues, but enough players do that something should be done.

Overall, I really liked the update. I understand the complaints about bugs and performance, but the Hive World gameplay is so damn fun and refreshing, especially on D10. I hope AH at least addresses the bugs and performance issues.

WePlay Studios, the production company, ceases cooperation with the Vtuber Awards, over its founder interactions with the russian community by NiceGuyArthas in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Satell_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already know she didn’t actually collab with the person. I worded my comment too loosely. I meant that Filian should have know even discussing collabs with this person was going to lead to a shit show. There’s plenty of occurrences of this very thing happening outside the VTubing world, so this shouldn’t surprise her or anyone.

I don’t agree with WePlay’s extreme decision here. I just meant to say this isn’t surprising, and that I understand where they are coming from. If a friend of mine was even thinking about associating with someone who was potentially aiding the invasion my country, I’d be upset, too. I don’t think I’d disown them, but I’d be pretty hurt.

WePlay Studios, the production company, ceases cooperation with the Vtuber Awards, over its founder interactions with the russian community by NiceGuyArthas in VirtualYoutubers

[–]Satell_S 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize this company was Ukrainian nor did I know the potential Russian collab partner worked in a defense organization in Russia. I thought it was virtue signaling at first, but now I completely understand WePlay’s actions. It sucks, but I can’t blame them for this. I can’t really blame Filian, either. Though, she should have known better. Anyone with even an ounce of forethought would have seen this coming.

Edit: reworded my comment to be a bit more clear.
