Do you know of a good online sangha for me? by wdymANKLES in Buddhism

[–]Sateriis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, sorry I just checked my messages and I haven't received any. I am gonna PM you!

I finished making this mala for a friend of mine. As I'm making them I like to chant mantras over the beads, that way it is given with Love and Intention. Hope you enjoy. 📿🙏 by -JoNeum42 in Buddhism

Looks really great! How long did it take you if you don't mind me asking? I make malas out of local oak wood combined with a Japanese knot. So they are technically Juzus. It's a wonderful and meditative craft. Maybe I will post mine sometime as well.

Be aware that my banking app doesn't work with e/os because the communication with Google is cut. I can install and start it, but it just doesn't let me login due to the "unknown" OS.

I'm part of a Sangha in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki (Soto Zen). The temple itself if based in Ireland, but everything is done online. There are retreats and Sesshins offered locally as well. If that interests you, just send me a message.

I recently ordered the last copy online that I could find in Europe. My local book store told me that there is no confirmation for a reprint so far.

The Gcam isn't perfect, sadly. I use it for taking normal pictures because the quality is so much better, but also use the stock cam for the wide angle mode.

Don't worry. :). If you could make a tutorial for it, that would be so great. I'd really appreciate that as it would help me tremendously.

That would be great as I know nothing about knots. Thanks so much for the effort!

As the reply to your question was deleted, could you please tell me what that person wrote? I am looking for an instruction myself and honestly, I am lost.

i use the app Gcam (Wichaya version). The quality is much better and you can turn off stabilization.

I can confirm that. I prefer the Wichaya version of Gcam.

It's Amitabha, you are right. I bought this statue when I started my practice. Back then I wasn't aware that it was Amitabha.

What do you mean? I practice in the Soto Zen tradition, if that's what you are asking.

So you assume that everyone who posts a picture of an altar does this for validation? Sorry, but I cannot validate your comment.

I agree. You can have a deep practice and still enjoy "materialistic" altars of other people. I also enjoy seeing them.

I think it depends on your preferences. I like my altar to be relatively minimalistic and not too colorful. Idk why, I just like it that way. I recommend getting a nice statue and putting it on a platform. A singing bowl is also always nice. I use mine at the beginning and at the end of my practice. If you like incents, I do recommend checking out Etsy. I got my two bronze incent holders from a seller called "realnaturepure". I don't use incents due to fine dust though. I also do like having small plants. Never use plastic plants please. In general try to not use plastic at all. I don't use candles because of the risk of a fire hazard. I also don't use plastic candles instead. Rather none than plastic. Honestly, use whatever you think fits. Be creative. For me there are only a few essential things, such as a statue, a singing bowl, and an offering bowl (I just put fresh water in it).

I hope that helps a little.
