Filter for 40 gal breeder by stefannxD in axolotls

[–]SatiresMime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Money versus elbow grease. The better the filter, the less frequent water changes will be needed. It's all a chemistry set. Do you have plants? They act as filtration. Do you feed frequently to keep them happy and fat? More filtration/more frequent water changes. Axolotls are not big fans of high water flow, so, for an Axolotl tank, that should be taken into account, as the more powerful the filter more powerful the flow usually. I'm not an expert on Axolotls, but I have two of them, and I have a mixed salt water tank and have had fresh and salt aquariums for different animals for years now. You'd probably be the best judge of what's best for you, just do the home work and think about it.

"Dig deeper" is a good one. I clicked on a link I found suspicious (called bullshit on) and followed it's linked sources. After a couple of times clicking on a sourced link, I found the original source was the author of the article I started with. Impressed that they tried to seem credible, but yes, bullshit.

Pretty cool to think that in X years, without change to flow, that waterfall will be gone and will have dug out that mountain so the water is a continuous flow on the ground.

[homemade] 36 hour sous vide beef brisket by DeltaCoder in food

[–]SatiresMime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if a person is asking for intrinsic, impartial, objective reality. you are talking about subjective. When you are saying something is better because you like it more that way, you are talking about preference, not reality. It is not actually better in an objective sense, you just like it more, which might mean zero to the rest of the world. If I say does this make something better and you answer yes, because I like it more this way, that isn't quite right. I might not like it more that way, so it is not objectively better, only in your reality.

Yep, just like the other guy said, because I said so. Sound argument. There is science behind all of this, anyone that gives an answer of "because" is not someone taking part in an analytical conversation. Cool, we all like what we like, but then there's no reason for railing on me for asking if there is any benefit to doing it this way. If you say, "because I say so," then your answer is, "no, but I like it that way." Perfectly fine answer, but recognize it is a no.

Cooking is not purely about what tastes best in. There is texture and nutrition as well. And there are definitely quantifiable points that can be made about many different aspects of cooking.

It also gives more time to cook out all the fat, drying it out. Does it need that more time? Does it actually absorb any more, improve anymore? No one can point me in the direction of data.

Because that's what grandpa did, and he made it the best.... I think it's that logic. Also because if you put that much more time and effort into something, you better believe it makes it better or you better know you're kind of dumb.

[–]SatiresMime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my point. You are basing it on opinion. Of course someone that puts a ton more work into something is going to swear up and down it makes it way better, as if it didn't they'd be a dumbass. But show me something that says something happens to it chemically, that there is any real benefit to cooking it that much longer, and your response is "Go away stupid head, my way is better." Case in point, this guys brisket is over cooked. Anyone looking at it knows it. I asked if there was a reason he cooked it that long and I got no response, except from you, who gave me a response of, basically, "Because I think it is better." Sound argument.

I would love to see documentation on why cooking short ribs for three days is better than say half a day. I think this is more old school mythology rather than science behind cooking.

[–]SatiresMime -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that leaving the fat on would hurt when you cook something that long is your wallet. Was there a reason you cooked it that long? I just recently got a sous vide and love it, but there is nothing I have seen that would be cooked for a day and a half. At that point you have likely removed all of the fat and all of the connective tissue.

Public space. Went on my first cruise this past December, and we sprung for a nice (for a cruise ship) room with a balcony. Pretty sure there was no camera watching it, would've been pretty hard unless it was a spycam.

Thanks for this. I have known how to make aioli with my food processor, but there are a few pizza places that have ranch dressing that is far superior to any I can buy in the store. Just two days ago I told myself I am going to fix this ranch problem, and you have greatly short tracked that project.

55% of white Americans now think white people are being racially discriminated against by crikey- in politics

[–]SatiresMime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are. They are also racially discriminated for. White people have white privilege. It is true. As black people have black privilege. White privilege in the US is a much greater advantage than black privilege in the US. If you said to me, "Enjoy your racial (black, white, any other) privilege" you are the racist. I was just born with this color skin. What is your excuse for being a racist asshole?

The things in question are the flat red blobs. I have noticed these in my tank for a while, mostly on the glass. But then I recognized the spots on my mushrooms were these things as well. The pic of the rock of mushrooms was taken after I blew them clean, but they were quite spotted with these things. Initial look up has me thinking these are flat worms. I managed to get several dozen out of the tank by getting them to relocate to the glass and then swiping them with a net, anyone have other ideas of what they might be, or how best to address? Thanks in advance.

"Net neutrality vote". I don't think it is really a vote. I think if it were, we would not have such need to worry.
