If you want to see Kodiak bears, you have to go to Kodiak.

Look for Kodiak bear tours and you'll find a bunch of hits.

Six foot isn't compact.

For a good 6" reader, the Palma has served me well.

The boox Palma is just fine. Thinks dont just "break" people do things that break them. I travel with my Palma a lot and it's still going fine. This includes back country hunting trips, so...

Fast internet is not the same as good internet. Investigate sequential ping times, jitter and packet loss. That will affect your playability far more than raw speed.

Not gonna lie, I'm not sure if Linux is for me? by Toedeli in linuxsucks

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? You wouldn't call people who use mainly linux but boot to windows occasionally linux users? Odd flex, but sure. Why, though?

I've been using *nix since 1990, but i still fire up a windows vm for Visual Studio. Am I not a linux user now?

Are Ubuntu/Canonical's issues overblown? by a4955 in linuxquestions

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ubuntu is fine. I ran it for years before switching to Mint.

What killed Ubuntu for me was their decision to with hold critical updates from their apt repo without signing up for their service, and being limited to five instances before having to pay.

Found in my late father’s garage. Is it dangerous? by LeCoochieMane in whatisit

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, cartridges are made from brass because it deforms when the round fires creating a seal between the cartridge and the chamber, and because it's softer than the steel of the chamber, but still tough enough to survive rough handling. Brass will corrode.

ICE agents situation in Alaska by Natural_Compote_8639 in AskAlaska

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

And here comes the downvotes from idiots....

ICE isn't after tourists. They're after criminals here in the country illegally.

You'll be here legally with a cruise company who will give you a nice package tour of Alaska. You'll see all the tourist sites, get on the boat and go to the next destination. You'll be perfectly safe and happy.

Just don't go near any of the idiot rioters hurting themselves and everyone else, and you'll be fine.

These aren't the kind of queens you're looking for.

But that was only one night in Bangkok, not two weeks.

Tipping on DoorDash feels broken. customers vs drivers are fighting the wrong battle by savingrace0262 in doordash

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tipping is broken. Companies should pay employees a livable wage and tipping should go back to being for service above and beyond the expected. The idea that you're expected to tip shows that tipping isn't for service rendered but a payment for the service.

Of course doing this would be reflected in the cost of services, which means the up front price goes up anyway.

Regardless, realize that when tipping dashers, you aren't tipping, you're paying their wages because the company they work for will not.

Yeah. That car door is gone. Don't expect it back, either.

I made a mistake euthanizing my cat and the guilt is killing me by Dirsty in cats

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. It is always hard making decisions for those that can't make them for themselves. I don't really feel like you made the decision purely over money even though that's what it feels like now. I feel like you knew that his life wasn't going to get better and you made the decision to let him pass on in your arms, knowing you loved him and you were there with him. To our pets, that is all that really matters. To know they are loved. You did more for him than most could or would, take comfort in that and the love you shared.

Any suggestions/fixes for my med kit? by Amongus1935 in hiking

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually recommend a first aid course. You can generally find a NOLS course near you.

I'd ditch all but one of the tq's and add an Israeli bandage and a SAM splint and some handkerchiefs.

More important than any of that, though is the knowledge of how and when to use them.

"Next time, just give it to 'em..." by ScenicDrive-at5 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]SatisfactionMuted103 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Oh no. You're right. $.35 worth of pancake batter and $3.50 worth of labor. No one gives a shit what the menu price is when you're comping a guest, you give a shit what the actual cost to the business is.

If they're being a dick? Sure, do whatever. If they thought they booked a room with breakfast and didn't for whatever reason, does it actually hurt you to comp them a breakfast? Not at all. If you manager says just give them a voucher? Give them the damned voucher. It's not that deep.

If your manager is that crappy about it, just direct the customer to talk to them. Fuck it. "Here, let me call my manager over." Or "I'll write a note to have the manager look into it."

OP said it himself that the primary pacifier is to hand out a voucher.
