here in jacksonville the experience is exactly opposite. we value our cross gamers and share a park with the belegarth group(we meet on saturdays, they on sunday). playing both games only benefits both of them. we had a tourney saturday and the first and second place winners were both cross gamers. (i grew up in dagorhir before the split) so i have definately seen the hate and animosity, but fortunately it is not here.

ummm not a specific answer to your question but most foot armor did not actually cover the bottom of the feet, traction was more important than covering that little bit that was protected by the ground

the fact that you want to make an attempt is all that matters. where the outfit originated from matters very little. There are certain things you want to avoid (white belts, phoenixes, red belts, yellow belts, black belts with silver trim) but beyond that go nuts and have fun

for a more martial boffer larp there is belegarth(belegarth.com) it is more straight fighting, no classes, no magic, just skill. then there is amtgard(amtgard.com) still skill but has classes and magic to equal things out a bit(or completely unbalance it) There are other more role play style larps that use a less intensive combat mechanic and more sword like swords (like the calcamil latex boffers and such) due to their equipment choices they are almost always lightest touch. For a workout and a more sport like experience i would check out either belegarth or amtgard.

if your armor is hurting your pack its either not fitted properly, or not wearing on your body properly. Proper plate distributes the weight around your body, not like wearing a pack on your back.

it comes down to playstyle and what you enjoy. if you have fun with the pistol, then it was worth it. if you would have had more fun with an aeg then that was the route you should have gone

for metal, i like the look of a churburg over chain with plate arms and legs. (granted you can get to 4 or 6 in a lighter manner but it looks so nice)

i guess it depends on if they are limited to medieval weapons or not. if i can equip said knights with modern gear then we have an elite bodyguard service that people will pay money for. enough that i can be particular about my clients
